  • Our Thermal Analysis (TA) tutorial is a general introduction to this widely used technique, applicable to all industries from R&D to quality control.
    TA comprises a range of techniques that measure the physical properties of a substance as a function of temperature.
    Materials characterization is dedicated to the thorough analysis and development of new materials, as well as periodic monitoring for quality control.
    Thermal analysis consists of the following four well-established techniques:
    1. Differential Scanning Calorimetry, or DSC,
    2. Thermogravimetric Analysis, or TGA,
    3. Thermomechanical Analysis, or TMA,
    4. and Dynamic Mechanical Analysis, or DMA
    In DSC, heat flow and its related specific heat capacity is measured; TGA records mass loss; TMA determines length changes in the nanometer range and DMA provides modulus values.
