If your using the audio via your iPhone wirelessly to the sling studio. Is there a delay b/n the audio and video during the livestream. I hear you can only adjust the audio latency for the line in audio. Thanks
I'm looking for a simple setup with 4 cameras and a couple mics for live stream and to record and edit .. You have a full list of what to use and prices
Question what is the longest cable you used on a Camera Link. Im trying to find out as I have an installation of the sling studio and I cannot get people to 2 of the cameras and would like to have the camera links remotely installed so they can be turned on and off as the architecture of the site will not allow them to have the camera links accessible. (old church) Can I use them with HDMI extenders????. (the cameras are POE PTZOptics cameras and Not NDI and can be turned on and Off remotely)
SuperMouseDV I typically use short cables since I have the camera right next to the CameraLink. That said, my experience with long HDMI runs tells me the max length has more to do with the camera than the receiver. I have a couple cameras that can't send a signal over a 20' HDMI cable but other cameras handle the cable just fine. I don't think there'd be any problem using an HDMI Ethernet or SDI extender with the CameraLink though!
@@aaronpk Thanks for the reply My issue is I cannot test any of this as Im in Florida the setup is in San Francisco and I won't be back there for 2 weeks to finish the job so I cannot test this at all till I get there. and Amazon messed up already everything was supposed to be there on the Friday I got there and they postponed half of the order (all prime mind you) that included 2 of the cameras (the 30x and 20x) So I have to head back to finish the job.. If you could try a longer cable I would greatly appreciate it.. I have been trying to get into the Sling Studio user group and so far nada on letting me join. Hi when you put the hdmi output to video passthrough to an projector is there any delay on the video if we are putting the a speaker on the projector? i know you did it through a slideshow but i wanted to see, if you tried on a real speaker?
Thanks for the video. We are planning to use our Sling Studio more going forward. Couple questions - if you're broadcasting only, do you need an SD card inserted? Secondly, if you're recording and broadcasting, and it's a really long event, is it possible to switch SD cards on the fly or do you simply need to have a really large SD card to make sure you capture everything?
You do need an SD card inserted which is where it stores project files and associated media like text and graphics. However, you don't need to record to the SD card in order to broadcast! I've run full-day events that are only streaming, not recorded to the card. Of course you run the risk of losing the footage completely if the internet goes out, but sometimes that's an okay compromise. (FYI you also can't pull out the SD card on the fly without stopping everything and closing out the project.)
@@aaronpk so in that case, you simply wouldn't have the whole broadcast recorded if it ended up being too large of a video file for your SD card. Correct? One thing we realized was with the more cameras we're using, you're getting a video file that's exponentially larger than if you're using a single camera. Seems like common sense after you think about it, but something easy to miss. So, if you're using 4 cameras, you have a video file that's taking up 4 times the space on the one card instead of spreading that out over 4 cards if you have 4 people on 4 cameras, if that makes sense. :)
Mosaic Life Care when I've done this in the past I've streamed directly to TH-cam for 8+ hours and just not recorded to the card at all. TH-cam becomes the only recording but it's all there.
@@TheMosaicLifeCare Yep exactly, I only click the "broadcast" button and not the record button. It still requires an SD card to create the project, but doesn't use any space.
re: projecting the video while streaming - do you find that they match or is there a delay? The B&H review specifically mentioned that it couldn't be used for a projection/live feed in the space it was recording in because there was a ~2 second delay...
There's definitely a delay. It's enough that monitoring the audio from the iPad is a challenge. If you want something realtime, check out the Roland V-1HD, I have a short writeup on it here aaronparecki.com/2016/10/08/15/multi-camera-portable-live-video
Don’t you hate that we are back in the dongle business with our newer Macs? More chance for bad connections. Audio thru the Tascam must be causing a slight lip synch issue...
Actually it's doing pretty well still! I've still been using it at small gigs (up until everything shut down in March). I am curious whether it will be easier to use this or the ATEM Mini Pro for quick/small shoots once I start traveling again. Check out my main channel cause I talk about portable livestreaming a lot over there now! th-cam.com/users/aaronpk
I haven't tried with cameras other than 1080, but it does handle 1080i and 1080p without any problem. Also it seems to handle a variety of input resolutions from a computer without any configuration. I don't have an older camcorder to test with unfortunately. IMO it's probably a better idea to just get a new camcorder since you can get good results from this with even a $200 camcorder.
Most of the USB-C to HDMI adapters work fine, the official Apple one, or even most of the alternative brands also. The HDMI input on the SlingStudio is regular full size so there's nothing special there either.
I need to connect the sling studio to an existing WiFi in order to broadcast a live stream? I’m trying to use the device remotely out in the field where a wireless network may not be present.
It makes its own wifi hotspot for the cameras and iPad to connect to, so that part works fine without any existing wifi. But of course in order to broadcast to the internet you'll need a network connection. It can record to the SD card without an internet connection though!
Did you test how it records the files? Can you hook up a HDD and have it record to that? Do the files all record separately to be edited in FCPX for example? Like, you could have your live stream at 1080 as you edit from the iPad and then re-edit your cuts from the 4/5 camera angles later in FCPX?
Yeah, that's exactly how it works! It records the master track as well as each individual camera angle, and has a Final Cut and Premiere plugin that brings in the footage and lets you edit the cuts afterwards. After my next production next week I'll post a new review video that walks through all of that, I think it'd be helpful to have a dedicated video talking about that. Thanks for watching!
Backpedal TV Class! That sounds like a winner then! Thanks for the video and the reply! I’ve subbed there so I await more from the Sling Studio on your channel! Cheers 👍🏼
Can you mix inputs? Fade in and out, if so can you do this for graphics? I run a large music event in the UK and I am looking for a solution to stream DJ sets on to our social media.
Yes. Essentially, you would run to program the video input with the graphic, you would then select the same video input from the left side of the screen and drag it into the program. That way, when you fade to the "new" video (really the same video input but without a graphic) it looks like the graphics would fade. I can also fade audio, but it will only automatically fade to whatever audio is fed into that specific video channel when the AFV video button on the audio mixer is turned on. Otherwise, you can just select the "Master" audio, and adjust audio levels going into the HUB from an external mixer board.

Can you use your phone as a hotspot and get the internet connection from the mobile phone, or how about use a regular wireless hotspot? I mean is the internet connection enough to get a nice broadcast?
You can definitely stream from a phone's hotspot or a dedicated hotspot device. The SlingStudio will let you select a bitrate that is appropriate for the speed of your connection. Depending on the cellular connection, you may need to send a much lower bitrate than you would with a wired connection, but LTE speeds are really good now so it'll probably work just fine.
There is a mini HDMI port on the device that you can use for output. You'll need a mini-to-full-size HDMI cable. You can toggle it between HDMI passthrough, program output, or the quad view, which is what I was using in this video. If you want to output to multiple monitors you'd need an HDMI splitter.
I really appreciate your replies. In that particular link you've shared the computer of the speakers was attached to hdmi in "Slings hub" and the 2 cameras are with camera link...
Actually, due to a confusing AV setup at this venue, I had to use a CameraLink to transmit the presenter's computers into the SlingStudio. The setup is (presenter laptop) -> airplay to Apple TV -> HDMI splitter -> to projector and to CameraLink.
Unfortunately Canon DSLRs won't do clean HDMI output until you spend a lot more than a T3i. The R600 should work fine though, see if you can dig around the menus. Search for "How to disable on screen controls for HDMI output" and you should find that. As for the iPhone, I think it only works in one orientation so you'll have to turn the phone around.
Do you have to use the camera link to just use it with cellphones and such? I want to use 3 cellphones and a camcorder. Is that possible? Great video, really informative and direct. 5💥
