    Thanks for providing these scripts Charlie, worked great and the audio files are a neat addition. I can confirm these scripts worked fine on my Chinese CNCEST 6040 CNC on MACH3. When using my Digitizer type probe I just have to switch the "Active Low" setting switched to "On" vs. "Off" for using a Touch Plate.

    Great video! Very easy to follow and set up. If you use and XBox 360 controller to jog your machine, you can program the buttons as well. I almost always set 0,0 at the bottom left, so I renamed the Minus X and Minus Y files to XBoxBtn1.m1s and XBoxBtn2.m1s and chose those options for the B and Y buttons in the Plug In configuration drop down menus. Can't edit the bit width and such, but I plan to always use a 1/4" steel dowel to locate the X and Y.

      when traying to find the center exterior of the part about to machin, The box opens and ask for the span of the part. Now I am going to incorporate these as well. What will be next? A script for setting the three axis at a time would be great. Hi Charlie, me again.
    I installed the edge finder scripts and these also work fine except if you accidentally leave the screen in machine coords. No matter which script you run it then causes a Y negative travel. Machine is a small CNCEST with RnR controller card.
    The scripts are quite useful for calibrating the X and Y movement. I bolted a 150mm parallel on the table in X and then Y and ran your scripts to find the edge of the parallel. After each script had finished I flipped to machine cords and noted the reading and then did the maths of the subtraction of the + and - readings and also subtracted twice the tool thickness. Having got an answer to the maths I fed this into the first calibration dialogue box where it asks for the distance wanted to move and then put 150mm into the second dialogue box to give the actual distance travelled. That probably is badly explained but I think you will get the gist. I did a similar routine on the Z using the tool height setter with and without a 1-2-3 block difference in height.
    I have also made a 3mm probing rod out of silver steel and put an insulated shank on it so I can using the tool setting pad in either mode depending on whether the job is conductive or non conductive.
    The only thing I have done different to your videos is put all 6 newly installed limit switches in series into one input on the RnR card. The software knows if it is doing a machine zero use of the switches or a limit action by virtue of the status at the time. Again badly explained ...

      @sunny5rising  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did the calibration work out ok? If i understood correctly, i think you should only need to subtract the tool diameter once (per axis) in your calculations or tool radius twice.
      Haven't yet set my machine back up since the hurricane here in NC, but when i do, i will test the machine coords issue. Just been busy helping folks clean up and repair around here.

      @alanwood3597 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm ... you have got me thinking now.
      I have the probing backoff set to 1.5mm and I had a 3mm diameter probe. So what I really meant was 2 x backoff plus 2 x tool radius which I mentally was thinking as twice tool diameter which is technically a wrong way to describe it ....
      I just did an edit to the Mach3 operational screen by adding a LED next to the tool height button so you can see/test the probing contact. Found instructions on CNCnutz (Peter Passuello) TH-cam site. It saves having to flip screens when testing the contact.
      Some pretty raw pictures of the hurricane shown on UK TV so good luck with the clean up.

      Eliminate the tenths and the format of the data on line 218. It is what gives the problem is not a definitive solution, if someone can fix the problem of the format I thank you. That way it works with whole numbers.

    Hi Charlie. Good news! Your script works beautifully with an Ethernet connected machine! One question though, on the “offset” page, do I need to enter any figure in the Z offset? The thickness of my touch plate for example? Or, do I just leave it on zero? Thanks, you are a star! David

    • @sunny5rising
      @sunny5rising  ปีที่แล้ว

      David, Excellent! Glad it worked out. You do not need to add anything on the Offsets screen for Z when using my Z script. My XY scripts do use that DRO field only if you want to use a different "Gage Thickness" other than the Default you set in the XY scripts. That "Set Z" button is only used if you want to use Mach3's default action with setting Z.

    Charlie,tkx a lot for so good and detailed tutorial.i would like ask ,if your spindle is grounded ,and if so,do you have problem when centering metal instead of wood?im having a lot of different behaviour when touching different metal

    • @sunny5rising
      @sunny5rising  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, my spindle armature is isolated from the rest of the machine. What different behaviors are you having?

    • @alanwood3597
      @alanwood3597 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I had the same problem as my table and the spindle were both at ground. In the end I made a probing rod with an insulated shank and shoulder so I could make an isolated connection to the probing input. The shoulder ensures the probing rod always sits at the same position in the collet. The next step is to 3D print some small plastic discs to superglue onto the cutting tools to mimic the probing rod height. The cutting tools from Think & Tinker already have these in place and I have matched this on the probe.

    • @alanwood3597
      @alanwood3597 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GurusOnWheelsSalisbury I made a 3D printed 'top hat', that is a cylinder/tube with a shoulder/boss on it. The tube inner diameter is a glued fit on a piece of steel rod and this insulates the rod from the chuck / collet jaws. The top hat collar acts as a reference stop point to always maintain the depth of the insulated rod into the chuck. I have a crocodile clip that I clip onto the insulated rod and this goes to the sensing input.

    GREAT VIDEO !!! I LIKED AND APPPRECIATED. Just quick question when i run to check the edges what's feed rates needs to be for x and y axis and am afraid to heat the stock if not stopped during finding edges and center .. this tablet and carcodales stop the bits for sure >??? or need other setting to avoid crash in stock box ?
    sorry for stupid question i just worry about it i thought may be i missed something during the that video watching....
    am just beginner that's way too much questions.))) hope you understand me

    • @sunny5rising
      @sunny5rising  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the video. The feed rates in the scripts work fine, but you can change them as you wish. You will need to be sure there is conductivity between the probe/tool and part/touch plate. You can test this before running the script by temporarily jumping the contact points with a piece of wire and making sure the "Digitize" LED lights up upon contact. If you are not sure that there will be conductive contact or are afraid to run it, DO NOT RUN THE SCRIPT. Hope this helps to answer some of your questions.

    Will these scripts work in Mach4? and will it work with a touch plate from cnc router parts? Great video

    • @sunny5rising

      I haven't used Mach4, so I can't say if the scripts will work it not.
      These scripts will work with any conductive touch plate as long as it's wired correctly. Of course, also put the touch plate measurements in the scripts where needed.
