    Thank you Charlie,
    I have used both your probe scripts on my USB controlled router, I set the Z probe a earlier on in the year.
    and now the XY probe All working straight out of your script. With all the programming you have done, I very much appreaciate you sharing your knowledge with us, you have taken my experience with CNC's to the next level, TIp my hat to you.

    Not sure if anyone commented on whether or not this script works with USB controllers or not but to answer that is yes. Works great! I have a Gecko G540 and a UC100 USB controller. Only differance i found is that Mach3 won't auto detect the input. If anyone would like more information on how I did it feel free to message me. Awesome Video as always Charlie. Great video! Very easy to follow and set up. If you use and XBox 360 controller to jog your machine, you can program the buttons as well. I almost always set 0,0 at the bottom left, so I renamed the Minus X and Minus Y files to XBoxBtn1.m1s and XBoxBtn2.m1s and chose those options for the B and Y buttons in the Plug In configuration drop down menus. Can't edit the bit width and such, but I plan to always use a 1/4" steel dowel to locate the X and Y.

      when traying to find the center exterior of the part about to machin, The box opens and ask for the span of the part. • @alanwood3597

    Hi Charlie, me again.
    I installed the edge finder scripts and these also work fine except if you accidentally leave the screen in machine coords. No matter which script you run it then causes a Y negative travel. Machine is a small CNCEST with RnR controller card.
    The scripts are quite useful for calibrating the X and Y movement. I bolted a 150mm parallel on the table in X and then Y and ran your scripts to find the edge of the parallel. After each script had finished I flipped to machine cords and noted the reading and then did the maths of the subtraction of the + and - readings and also subtracted twice the tool thickness. Having got an answer to the maths I fed this into the first calibration dialogue box where it asks for the distance wanted to move and then put 150mm into the second dialogue box to give the actual distance travelled. That probably is badly explained but I think you will get the gist. I did a similar routine on the Z using the tool height setter with and without a 1-2-3 block difference in height.
    I have also made a 3mm probing rod out of silver steel and put an insulated shank on it so I can using the tool setting pad in either mode depending on whether the job is conductive or non conductive.
    The only thing I have done different to your videos is put all 6 newly installed limit switches in series into one input on the RnR card. The software knows if it is doing a machine zero use of the switches or a limit action by virtue of the status at the time. Again badly explained ...

    • @sunny5rising
      @sunny5rising  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did the calibration work out ok? If i understood correctly, i think you should only need to subtract the tool diameter once (per axis) in your calculations or tool radius twice.
      Haven't yet set my machine back up since the hurricane here in NC, but when i do, i will test the machine coords issue. Just been busy helping folks clean up and repair around here.

    • @alanwood3597
      @alanwood3597 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm ... you have got me thinking now.
      I have the probing backoff set to 1.5mm and I had a 3mm diameter probe. So what I really meant was 2 x backoff plus 2 x tool radius which I mentally was thinking as twice tool diameter which is technically a wrong way to describe it ....
      I just did an edit to the Mach3 operational screen by adding a LED next to the tool height button so you can see/test the probing contact. Found instructions on CNCnutz (Peter Passuello) TH-cam site. It saves having to flip screens when testing the contact.
      Some pretty raw pictures of the hurricane shown on UK TV so good luck with the clean up.

    I tried this on my machine and got a few errors on Mach3 v3.041. After reverse engineering the whole script I found out all I had to do was change my VarStandOff, VarGageThick and VarProbeDia to whole numbers, as "VCATCH" was returning the operation between these variables with a decimal point and mach3 apparently didn't know how to input decimal values into my xyz coordinates, the first time I tried it I got -28715 or something like that, good thing I have limit switches, cuz I sent it g0x0y0 before checking where the machine thought it was. I guess it could be easily fixed if you don't have a whole number diameter probe, but I don't want to read through VB script or Mach3 documentation right now. Thanks for sharing, Charlie!

    Hello Charlie,
    I tried your script with a 6040 Router from ChinaCNCZone. This has a USB controller and none of your script work or some partially worked but then I could not repeat the results more than once. In addition I got many errors. In particular, when I run the edge finder I get " Maximum travel reached...." which I tried multiple distance but still the error pops up. but this error in not consistent and once or twice I was able to succeed but they the DRO was not peftectly zero after the measurement, but x was +12 microns and Y +19 microns on the display. but after I was not able to measure it anymore. The error keeps coming back.
    For the " external center finder" I get the same error right after the probe touches the first side. Once I was able to touch one side and when the probe went to the other side it stopped giving me an ( Hope I remember correctly 322).
    For the "internal center finder" in a circle ( i checked the circle option) the probe touches one side, goes rapid in the starting point, moves to the other side and after it touches goes rapid back to the opposite diameter and it stops with an error "error on line 277 -Internal error .
    In addition a couple of times once it stopped, the machine started moving again on its own with no reason. fortunately at very low speed......it is scary and fortunately I used foam with aluminium tape to test all the options.
    Unfortunately nothing works or is extremely inconsistent and dangerous to test on real parts.
    I hope you can find the magic solution for this.
    Thanks a lot for your hard work.

      In the 'External Center ' dialog, make sure the Safety Gap field has a period (.) in it instead of a comma (,) before pressing 'OK'. This should take care of it.

    I run a warp 9 ethernet smooth stepper and it works great! thanks for the scripts! One thing i am struggling with is a Z height read out. I would like to run [Auto Tool Zero] it would set the DRO to 0.000....then a big then, i would like to call up a fixed location using machine coordinate and touch off on another plate that is permanently located on my bed. The have the dimension/distance of Z height displayed in the status bar, as you did with internal center function. This would give the thickness of the work piece, i need to do this because my shop is never the same temp, i have a 4'X4' machine and it does expand and shrink....I have even set up an API laser tracker and it does flex up to 0.30 dependent on temp. If i had a script to touch off on top of the work piece then touch off on a fixed location on the bed, then spit that dimension out....man that would be awesome!! still trying to fungible through it but i am struggling...haha...thanks again for the video and scripts, if you get board can you please help me with this.

    (note2... ihad the same with my z-height probe. i had to fill in 'wrong' numbers to receive it works correctly)

Just quick question when i run to check the edges what's feed rates needs to be for x and y axis and am afraid to heat the stock if not stopped during finding edges and center .. this tablet and carcodales stop the bits for sure >??? or need other setting to avoid crash in stock box ?
    sorry for stupid question i just worry about it i thought may be i missed something during the that video watching....
    am just beginner that's way too much questions.))) hope you understand me

    • @sunny5rising
      @sunny5rising  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the video. The feed rates in the scripts work fine, but you can change them as you wish. You will need to be sure there is conductivity between the probe/tool and part/touch plate. You can test this before running the script by temporarily jumping the contact points with a piece of wire and making sure the "Digitize" LED lights up upon contact. If you are not sure that there will be conductive contact or are afraid to run it, DO NOT RUN THE SCRIPT. Hope this helps to answer some of your questions.

    But there seems to be a bug in the Circle calculations for Diameter...
    In both Unit cases
    The code should be:
    VarSpanDia = Format((VarSpanX + VarSpanY)/2, "##0.000") 'CALCULATE DIAMETER
    another set of parentheses need to encompass the (VarSpanX + VarSpanY) before the division.
    Case 0 'BOTH
    Select Case GetParam("Units") 'SET INFORMATION FOR STATUS LINE DISPLAY
    Case 0 'MM
    VarSpanDia = Format(VarSpanX + VarSpanY/2,"##0.000") 'CALCULATE MM DIAMETER
    VarSpanDiff = Format(VarSpanX - VarSpanY,"##0.000") 'CALCULATE SPAN DIFFERENCE
    Case 1 'INCH
    VarSpanDia = Format(VarSpanX + VarSpanY/2,"##0.0000") 'CALCULATE INCH DIAMETER
    VarSpanDiff = Format(VarSpanX - VarSpanY,"##0.0000") 'CALCULATE SPAN DIFFERENCE
    End Select

      Thank you for letting me know about this issue. As you stated, a bug is present in the calculation. I did some testing and can't believe I didn't catch it before. Thankfully, this is the only version with the issue. It has now been fixed and uploaded in the new zip file XY_TOUCH_SCRIPTS_2b (link in description). The new Internal Center script is Rev15b. Though I repaired the calculation differently than you did, I thank you for your input.

      My spindle came already isolated, possibly because it's a DC brushless motor. That's my guess anyway. Others with your issue have made isolating probes or isolating plastic sleeves for their spindles specifically for probing.

    on auto x+ , x-, y+, and y- buttons the probe reaches the probe the I get an error that I reached the max travel and it stop right there. Do I have a setting set wrong in mach3 that would cause this issue? any help would be appreciated as I am new to mach3.

    Charlie
    I had this working fine until recently and I needed a system rebuild. Now I have problems with the internal and external centering but the X/Y edge finding works fine.
    The problem I have is at the end of the code the tool doesn't center on the midpoint and the DRO's don't zero. However, if I single step the code the tool centers correctly and the DRO's zero. As I said, edge finding works fine. I am guessing some sort of timing problem, but tweaking the sleep values in code doesn't appear to make any difference
    Mach3 V 3.043.66 and Center external script Rev 16 and Center internal script Rev15b. Edge finding scripts Rev13
    Any clues on what to investigate please?

      @@sunny5rising Charlie Will do. I think I have found the problem IsMoving() jumps out of the loop early and the DRO's are still changing.
      I think you have found a similar problem because in the edge finder scripts I see you have a Sleep 500 after the axis move and IsMoving. The trouble with a fixed delay is it depends on the speed of the move. If you reduce VarFeedRate you require a bigger delay. Although I have now included Sleep 1500 between the last move and the DRO read I also have code that loops and reads the DRO's until they have stopped changing.
      I am doing some more tests and will then send you my revised scripts
      By the way my controller is an NVCM USB device.
