Just thought back to this song after a socially-distanced conversation with my cousin, who lives in Queensland. One of the Annable brothers was my Sunday School teacher at Frankston. A thoroughly nice guy who managed to deal with a bunch of cheeky boys with great aplomb.
I owned 3 copies of this Gem of a song before I sold most of my record collection. The 'B'' side of this record was entitled '' To London and back'' which was a very catchy tune also.A great Melbourne band, and I remember when this song came out in the late 60's.
Well at last I can call my challenge to find my " hardest to get " songs of the 60's complete. I have spent years chasing songs that I remember from the early days. With the aid of modern technology I had narrowed my list down to three. One was a song called " Sandy , Sandy " by the Town & Country Brothers , one was called " Let her go " ( English version) by Little Tony and the other was " Plenty of room up top " by The Colours. I managed to get " Sandy " and " Let her go " a couple of years ago , and now I have finally got hold of " Plenty of room up top " . Not the greatest song ever sung , but from memory I think it was pretty significant at the time because of the continually rising road toll in Victoria and got airplay on Melbourne radio stations. Nice to hear it again.
yeah, i got one of those autographed singles as well , though the names are in different places. been going through some boxes ,couldn't find much on this band. thought they were British. got their first one too, it's a woman/ do wah diddy, pity i can't leave a photo
Family memories for me... I played bass. The writer of the song was my brother Tony (surname incorrectly spelled on the record label). He sadly passed away in the late 1980s.
Hi Richard, I remember this song well. I was in a junior class at Frankston High School ( Matric 1968). Should have bought a copy! Best Always, Kim White
