  • Broghil is one of the scenic valleys in the far-off Chitral district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Nature has gifted it with abundant natural beauty, including snow covered peaks, glaciers, meadows, lakes and trekking routes. The valley is all set to become a new destination for the international and domestic tourists.
Known for Yak Polo and Karomber Lake, Broghil Valley runs parallel north east along Gilgit-Baltistan and Wakhan corridor of Afghanistan along north-west. The far north end of the valley ends at Karomber Pass. Karomber Pass is boundary between Broghil Valley and Ishkoman Valley. The famous mighty Karomber Lake is also situated at Karomber Pass.
The Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) in association with the World Bank under the Economic Revitalization of KP and Fata Project (ERKF) of the Multi Donor Trust Fund (MDTF) sponsored a vlog made by three young guys namely Abdullah Khattak, Usama and Usman.
The vlogger Abdullah Khattak begins his delightful journey to Broghil Valley as under:
Like every journey, this journey also starts with packing of the essentials. I packed a lot of essentials, including power bank, extra battery, torch, sunglasses, sunblock, hat, raincoat and, if you are making a vlog, a camera as well.
Since we travelled at night, therefore, after a little chitchat we all fell asleep early. When we woke up, we were in Chitral.
Good Morning! It’s the next day. Originally, we planned to wake up at 6am but instead we woke up at 7:30am and now its 8am, and after having breakfast, we are going to leave for Broghil Valley in jeeps.
Yesterday, we travelled in jeeps and today we are going to travel even more. So, I felt excited, but it’s going to be very tiring.
So, let’s move upstairs and grab some breakfast, and then we’re going to get the bags dropped in the car, and leave.
Before leaving for Broghil, we stopped at Mastuj Bazaar because this is the last bazaar (market) on the route of our journey to pick up final essentials, and then we are going to continue our journey to Broghil.
I’ve taken off my upper since it is getting really warm.
We have travelled for two hours but it is still a long way to go and you can probably tell that this is an off-road trail.
We made a stop at Powr and have only covered 19KM in three hours because of the difficult terrains and roads.
We still have 56KM more to reach Ishkarwaz, where the Broghil Festival is taking place.
We are taking a short tea break and then we are going to continue forward.
We are at Yarkhunlasht post and from here Broghil is another four hour drive. The journey is quite difficult, but it’s going well, Alhamdulillah.
It is a beautiful place surrounded by mountains and greenery.
We took a short stay here, and now we will continue journey towards Broghil.
Good Morning from Broghil! Last night was very cold, so we slept in jackets and layered clothing in sleeping bags. If you are thinking of coming here, then do bring warm clothes because it gets very cold after mid night.
Now we have come for breakfast, and we have chick peas, halwa and tea. The Broghil Festival is almost ready, we are going shortly after breakfast.
The weather here is quite unpredictable you may feel hot during the day but it gets very chilly during the night.
We are on the polo ground right now where one polo match has finished and another is about to start.
You can see the horses in the background and after this, we will witness Yak polo. It is really fun and really exciting.
Broghil is 250KM from Chitral Town. It is a really a difficult terrain but it is very beautiful with many lakes nearby. A little north of Broghil, we have the Wakhan corridor, which is the border of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan.
The inhabitants here are from the Wakhi Tribe, who migrated from Wakhan in 1936. The inhabitants said they collected firewood in summers and tend to stay indoors during winters.
Whatever distance we could cover in jeeps is done and ahead we have to trek 27KM.
We have trekked for about 40KM. I have Usama with me. Usama, how is it going? Hey! It’s easy so far. Usman? We still have 10 hours more to go.
It is a 6 hour trek from this place. Let’s see if we can complete it today. It’s 12:30 in the afternoon right now, Otherwise we have to take an overnight break and continue tomorrow.
Finally, after 8 hours of trekking, 7 hours yesterday and 1 hour today we have reached our destination. Kurambar Lake! And I have to say that all the hard work, all the hardships and the long trek was worth it. Because this place is beautiful. Let me show you what is in front of me.

Please allow foreigners to visit here this year without NOC. It is my dream to go here and see the people and the yaks and the yak polo. If tourists can visit Chapursan Valley without NOC then hopefully this year we can also see Broghil
