I can't believe this performance is 16 years old. When this song gets stuck in my head, it's this version. Truly, just lovely. Chills always at 2:38-2:55-- I love the fullness of the group's arrangement here! His vocal choice at 3:01 is always one of my favorite moments, too. Thank you for sharing this with the world.
Wow, I'm afraid I will comment on all of your videos... I could really just fall in love with this. It's so smooth and this voice, this feeling... it's like chocolate - it makes me want to say "yes, let's stay together" ;-)
very nice...the leader is amazing.he put his own spin on it instead of trying to sound just like the artist..of of course the harmony is on point AMAZING JOB!! 2 THUMBS UP
dude, this octet is like the best i've ever heard. the soloist is freaking amazing. if anyone hasn't already, check out their bohemian rhapsody cover, pure genius.
Fall '03 (3 of the Spring members) do an inspiring rendition of Paperback Writer and the 2000 Octet have a Beatles/Beach Boys type "Please Please Me" which is excellent.. The Octet have a large Beatles selection in their repertoire.
I never realized how much I love this song. In fact, I think I like it better than the original. No - I DO like it better. I find myself singing this song everyday now...
That's the name of the group. The group, formed in 1948, is always referred to as the Men's Octet. However, at this point in Octet history, one of the members left to focus on his studies. :D
@JoeBmax The group started the year with 8 men, and one of them left to focus on his studies. The UC Men's Octet has been in existence since 1948, and so they keep the name even if they are a man short.
Wow!! This is the best rendition of this song that I've ever come across. Great lead, tight harmonies- sweet!! Did these guys ever record this in a studio? I'd buy it. I know this is from 2003 but do they still sing anywhere?
@charltonho The UC Men's Octet has recorded several cd's over the years. This Octet recorded a cd called Octopella. The most recent cd is called "High Octane", and can be ordered from the UC Men's Octet website. High Octane features the Octet from 2003-2006. (Check TH-cam for the Octet's version of Ignition (Remix), Paperback Writer, Accidentally in Love, Elephant Love, etc.). I have several of their albums and they are very professionally done, so I'd recommend it if you can.
What kind of video camera recorded this sound? Four years ago? Holy smack, that's great quality sound for a handheld camera. Or is the sound track taken from a better mic?
Well, as long as you're asking, to the best of my knowledge... Parker and Jordan now live in New York Rick moved to Japan with his *wife* Jerome is back in California Ben was doing kissionary work in Asia Jason is in LA heading back to Berkely in the Fall I (Kenny) am almost done with my PhD at MIT
as a die hard motown fan this nearly kills me to say but: i think its better than al green original! it's definitely different and i'll bet amazing live :) x

@TheLadydance54 T-Pain Medley was awesome. The 2010 Octet is rockin' pretty hard, too. Made it to the ICCA Semifinals this year.

they were in uc berklys(?) mens octet in spring of 03 and if you go to the website you can order a cd there are a few to chose from.
