Third gen 10 bolt diff broken lock pin fix

  • Vehicle is a 1984 Camaro with a 10 bolt diff cover. I started unbolting the lock pin bolt and it snapped. These are common for breaking, and usually break with 1-2 threads left. If the lock pin has a little play in it, you might be able to use a scribe and spin it out (with the help of some WD40) by jiggling the pin and spinning the broken bolt with the scribe. It should JUST catch the edge of the bolt. Once it's threaded all the way out, use a magnet to pull it out the rest of the way.
    Hope this helps!

Pete Pederson you mean that center pin? it will slide out...if it's a little tough to get out you can just tap it out with a screw driver.....then rotate the carrier so the pin comes out the other side.

I've done all of that it's stuck an when I spin the axes that pin rotates unless I beat on it and it slides a little bit out then you can't spend it and the axles are locked. could have the axles have8 into that 10 if the bearings were broke and it wasn't sitting straight

Pete Pederson the pin should come out the same side as the bolt. but the bolt goes all the way thru the pin and a guarter inch in the carrier. so that side has to come out
