I won't pretend to know much about sports. What I do know is that magazines and other industries that cover sporting events are in it to make a profit by fulfilling a need. Each time the audience views these stories, they are casting their vote for the content. They say that this is interesting and I would like to see more of it. Stories that garner a lot of 'votes' are noted and they try to provide more of the same content. When a trend happens over years that consistently a specific type of content scores high, it gets preferential treatment. This is what is happening in sports. The votes are in and men's sports has an audience while woman's sports doesn't have nearly as much interest. This leads reports to try and play off the demographic that is primarily interested in sports, men. They try the age old trick of appealing the the female form that works so well for advertisements hence many of the comments mentioned.
Do you want to change this? The answer isn't to call fowl at the news media. Its to start voting for women's sports. Garner wide-spread interest in the field. Once this has grown enough, that there is really interest/money involved, it will cause news media to pay attention and reorganize their presentation to that audience instead.
Until that time, they will work with what they have.

I mean just look up a WNBA Dunk Highlight reel and an NBA Dunk Highlight reel and you can see why men's basketball dominates women's in viewership and therefore coverage in sports media. It is about supply and demand, and basketball viewers want to see the most impressive basketball and the WNBA doesn't provide that, for the same reason that there is more coverage of women's gymnastics than men's because viewers want to see the most graceful and beautiful gymnastics and women's gymnastics provide that.

I love sports and I wouldn't mind looking at male athlete's bodies too. Professional women lose to high school boys because they are coached, treated and viewed differently from a very young age. It's all about the numbers. Save for a few select instances men significantly out perform women in the sports arena. It's purely biological from our hunter/gatherer evolution. What this means is the men's game is faster and more physical than the women's which attracts viewership. It's also why I would disallow transgenderism in sports as this represents a completely uneven playing field where biological advantages routinely trump any amount of technique or training.

alf grebs ok but it’s not women’s fault that biologically men are stronger. Women have to work much more harder whereas men have natural muscle(puberty). If men weren’t biologically stronger then even women would beat them. You said women can beat men but take a look at gymnastics. Simone biles the worlds greatest gymnast of all time has better execution and difficulty then the worlds best male gymnast. Women suffer pain (periods, pregnancy, birth, leaving their homes after marriage, etc). Women are strong and don’t call them weak.

So considering the world population of men and women is split by about 50 50 why aren't all the women flocking towards womens sports and supporting it?
That would generate the interest, better coverage and MONEY it's always about the money remember!
There are certain sports that I find equally entertaining but just not all of them, but given time i'm sure that will change as women keep upping their game, but should sportswomen expect the sort of money the men get if their sport isnt generating that sort of capital yet?
I don't see how it can unless they think they should be subsidised by the wealthy mens game which is probably more the case.
I know an ex Tottenham footballer who played for them in the 1970's and believe me the wages the men got then was a fraction of what some of the overpaid footballers get today. but now there is vastly more money in the game with all the extra middle men, TV rights, advertising, merchandise, prize monies and so on.
Certain womens sports just haven't got to that level yet but they probably will given time, then they can overpay themselves just like the fella's and all the supporters will ultimately pay for it !
3 cheers for eqality eh lol

because a lot of women are scared to be seen as “too masculine”
there’s a thing called the female apologetic in sports.
it’s when women are forced to do things so that they are perceived as feminine while doing sports, almost as if they are apologising for being an athlete in the first place.
take gymnastics for example, women have to wear flashy outfits and do a dance in between each move. if they don’t, points will be deducted. men in gymnastics don’t have to do this.

the Why is easy, when people go to watch the 100m Olympics finals, most I suspect don't care much or know much for the individual runners, the winning difference is so small it hardly matters, they might not even beat the World record, they just want to watch the fastest person run an arbitrary length at that event, that person is the fastest person in the world, the one who jumps the highest or threw the Javelin the longest distance.
That's why this argument is starting to show 1 of 2 things, they just don't understand Sport, thinking it's some cooperative make you feel good confidence-building activity, it's not, it's about Winners and Losers, beating your opponent whether in a team or as an individual. Now admittedly there is an aspect that isn't this i.e team loyalty when your team is bad, but that tends to be based on Tribal, Group, Geographic connections.
The 2nd option is they just don't care they want an equal outcome regardless of talent, skill, and ability, look as a 5'9 Guy I'd love if the NBA signed me up without care for my complete lack of ability in basketball but I suspect they won't. Sport in a way is the most equal most meritocratic thing out there, Team owners don't care about anything apart from are you good.

All was pretty interesting until she started mocking on people wanting American Pharaoh and Victor Espinoza to be athletes of the year over Serena Williams. That year Serena did win three grand slams so it was an awesome performance, but that had already been done. But, horse and jockey became the first duo ever to win the triple crown, that no one had won it in more than 30 years, and the breeders cup classic in the same year. I guess it is kind of a shame she talks about people trivializing woman sports when she trivializes other sports just because she lacks information. This is really a stupid talk and last year after I watched this one I exited the auditorium and decided that I was never going to waste any more time or money on TEDx events.
The talk only briefly touched the core of this issue near the end of the talk -- market. Oh it's funny. If I only get to choose watch one Olympic 100m final, why should I ever choose women's, which is not as competitive and exciting as men's? Same thing for soccer, swimming etc.
I don't think nowadays anyone talks about sex prejudice, oppression etc in entertainment business. Why? Because there a lot of great female singers and actresses in the field. And they are in no way inferior to their male counterparts -- actually you cannot even make such comparisons.
Women's sports performance is not as good as men, a result of physical factors. But that is the fact and you have to admit it. And everybody likes watching exciting competitions, which probably means faster, further and more skillful, which is connected to power and endurance, in which men behave much better than women. As long as this stands you cannot change the fact that people don't watch female sports. People have their brains and they know very well what they would like to see.

People don’t watch women because they aren’t given the proper air time and promotion men get. They don’t have their games in “prime” time but rather in the morning and statistics show this. However you have no proof to any of your claims. Women are discriminated in sports and you are choosing not to believe it and the only reason it could happen is because “men are better at sports” just stop.

This would not be an issue if there was no "female sports". If women are really equally good why not have half the team female and half male? but we all know its impossible because women aren't equal to men in physical capabilities. Female sports is special because its separated from men's sports not because of the gender difference but because of the difference in the quality and weaker physical ability of women. When rules for women sports are lowered it becomes special right there so instead of complaining and whining live up to the men's standards if you really mean equality otherwise make up another term for this agenda which clearly can't be called equality.
