महान स्वतंत्रता सेनानी और प्रखर राष्ट्रवादी चितरंज दास ने स्वाधीनता आंदोलन में जिस तरह से राष्ट्रवादियों और देशभक्तों की सहायता की उसकी मिसाल मिलनी मुश्किल है। गांधी जी के आह्वान पर शुरू हुए असहयोग आंदोलन के दौरान चितरंजन दास अपनी जमी जमाई वकालत छोड़ कर आजादी के आंदोलन में कूद पड़े। यही नहीं उन्होंने न केवल खुद को आजादी के आंदोलन के लिए समर्पित कर दिया बल्कि अपनी सारी संपत्ति भी दान कर दी। उनकी देशप्रेम की भावना और जज्बे को देखते हुए देश ने भी उन्हें बेहद सम्मान दिया और वो देशबंधु के नाम से मशहूर हो गए।

Deepest respects to Deshbandhu CR Das. I am at Darjeeling now and visited the mansion "Step Aside" where he sent his last days in illness. Sad to see the place not maintained well even though it is a museum. Mahatma also visited him here and stayed with him. Wish the government will do the needful.
