I feel like Hank’s knowledge of the offense is being understated. Last year he said his goal was to learn all of the offensive line calls/adjustments he would need to make. I understand that he hasn’t had as many reps as Thorne but they have both been on campus the same amount of time. I think the Hank would be fine and will probably have no issues with running the offense with a rather large playbook. Thorne knows a lot but at the end of the day it’s not what you know it’s if you can make that decision when the lights come on.

You nailed it with this one. Easy to make these decisions in practice. It’s difficult when 80,000 people are screaming, things aren’t going right, and you’re on national tv facing adversity

If Thorne had a short leash last week and we might’ve won .. having a short leash against the team that’s giving up the most yard in the country isn’t what many people think it is … Thorne will probably play great Saturday and next Saturday he will lay an egg against Arkansas

I don’t understand why we aren’t running the ball. Run the ball, make short passes. Air it out every once in a while. Win 6-7 more games and spend a million on a portal qb.

And Holden Geriner threw the best ball at pro day including Cam Newton. Just put someone out there that won't F it up at this point. Make Thorne run the damn triple option if it works and if he gets hurt thems the breaks. No drop off behind him at this point.

@@TheBarnAuburn tbh anytime a QB,WR or RB transfers I look them up and see how they performed against their toughest opponents and well I was never a fan of PT due to he performed admirably vs lesser competition but horrible vs tougher IMO it gets no tougher than the SEC simply because of the amount of defensive players the conference has drafted every single year
Needs to start Hank!!!! It’s not a hard decision. PT and Freeze will find out how JH stadium feels if PT walks out first and that effects morale then you lose the LR. Worst case scenario Hank isn’t ready and we have to come back to PT. That helps us know whether we need a portal QB. Maybe Hank isn’t making perfect reads in practice. We’ve seen enough of Hank to know he’s hitting the easiest target no matter whether it’s the right read or not. Hank gets it out quick and doesn’t have people in his face. He uses his checkdowns. He’s got a better arm. Let’s see the kid play. If it’s effective, let him progress through the year and by December we’ll know if we need to hit the portal. There’s absolutely no down side to starting Hank and a lot to lose if you don’t. Fans will rally around Hank. The fans and team know he’s young, Freeze can talk to him in his headset to help him out. Dang man, why is Freeze so scared to make a change? You lose the fan base in AU you have a lot of problems because we are TOXIC 😂. Start Hank!

Those were his best games last year and they were road games. But guess what. Arkansas and Vandy look like the most improved teams in the SEC at this point. Nick Saban on frickin Gameday said he thought it was Auburn and acted like he had some insight. MAAAAN IS HE WRONG. Auburn got worse.

Love the meeting with each of the QBs to ensure they know the details of each play. Now take the no-contact jerseys off at practice and dial up the pressure to see who melts. That may seem ridiculous but they can still take some hits without jeopardizing their health.

Airing it out : It's like pulling hens teeth making a QB change on the plains. Malzahn couldn't do it , they live and die with one QB because they can't make adjustments mid game

Thank you kyle! This was a great episode I do worry that after 4 years, does this young man does not have it between the ears to fix. If you are a 4-year starter you should be able to do much better than this

Here's my non-coach thoughts...
Payton and Hank will get almost the same amount of reps. They will get close to the exact plays called into them and whoever (whomever?) executes it close to or near Freeze's expected perfection will get the Arkansas nod. I think it will be up to them. I think Freeze wants to see how they handle and control the team. My 2¢..
I think Peyton holds the ball way too long. 2-3 seconds and the ball has to be out. He doesn’t throw with anticipation that the receiver will hit their spot so he’s waiting until they’re damn near on it to pull the trigger.

PT's not the guy but he's the guy we got! A worse QB wont' help. We need a little time to get linemen (25 recruiting class) and either WW is ready or we can get a portal guy. We just met a little more time

Our talent is freshmen, there gonna lose games they shouldn't and win games they shouldn't. 8 is still on the table

The bottom line is this..........Hugh Freeze has painted himself into a corner. He put all his eggs in one basket with Peyton Thorne. Peyton is not consistent and Hugh knows it. Hugh doesn't have confidence in Hank, Holden or Walker to come in and get the job done. He doesn't know what to do. Paring down the playbook may work for New Mexico but it won't work for the balance of the schedule. Until Peyton or whoever is the QB gets the offense out of first gear it's going to be a slow go. Every remaining game on the schedule will be a toss up......even Vanderbilt.

Correct me if I’m wrong but that same leash was short last year after some games just don’t understand why HF want end this running away train with PT I hope PT prove us all wrong but proof is in the pudding . He can’t produce when under pressure at Auburn .Next week will tell the story when it come to PT against Arkansas cause I don’t HF will bench PT for rest of this season and I think HF is to stubborn to switch up at the Qb position
The problem is not Thorne not knowing the plays. The problem is he can’t execute under pressure. No amount of meetings or talking to him is going to change the situation.
It will help them understand why he's not seeing the plays or explain his decision making which could uncover a lot of things. Thought the meeting part was very smart

I invite anyone to go listen to Hank’s interviews with Zac, and it will take no time to hear that the kid has a high football IQ and can read defenses quickly. Which is PT’s #1 problem.

Thorne isn't going through his progressions, he's locked in on a receiver before the play begins,add holding on to the ball too long.

To me "short leash" still just means he's still not ready to turn it over to someone else. I thought he didnt hit the transfer portal because he was comfortable with the QBs all together. Move on from Payton shouldnt just be about salvaging this season, it should be with next year in mind as well. We knew we were going to take some lumps this year, we just wanted to see some improvement, but this is same ol Payton Thorne.

I didn't compare them. I just said I have similar feelings about both in that they both had/have issues with pass rush and crumbled more than they succeeded. Obviously Payton much more than Stidham although Stidham had much better offensive lines

Pretty sure he had a few NFL guys in front of him at Michigan State along with an NFL running back and two or three NFL receivers and he did pretty well. Having said that if he was a higher caliber QB Michigan State would have won a natl championship in 2021.

Hugh’s offense is outdated. The RPO is still a thing but look at sarks RPO compared to Hugh’s. No motion no wr blocking to get guys open and isolate players no creativity a lot of time it’s just get a 1 on 1 outside guy and either stop n go or deep fade 🤷♂️

This is terrible. What a joke you defend Thorne and freeze. If we run the ball 40 times and not pass it 40 we win the game plan and simple. If our coach can’t beat cal….. it’s a joke. Man on man. Our players are better and have no excuse to lose. Hes getting paid 6+ million to win. On top of how much nil this kids are getting. If you get paid to come here preform and win. Not lose back to back years to sorry football teams we should easily beat.
