- Here are the instructions to make a cute origami heart box, this box has a surprising lid which you can't see on first glance, and would make a great gift box for jewellery ♥

Designer: I thought was me but just found out that Akiko Yamanashi has a very similar design although I'm not sure as I don't have access to her book or can't find any information. 😓

2 sheets of square paper.
I am using 21 x 21 thin paper.
Ruler + Pencil
The small pink box was made with 10.5 x 10.5 cm and the first markings were 1.5 cm
The medium sized one with mint and pink pattern was made from 15 x 15 cm and the first marks were at 2.5 cm

The placement for the fold at 6:04 wasn't clear but it worked out... I'm halfway through and starting over to make part two. I really love how it magically collapses into the "L" shape around 7:06, not easy at first but seemed to fall into place once I saw the shape at 7:29! For my own selfish benefit it would be easier if the paper you used actually had a white side so I could always be sure I was on the right track. Thanks so much for all your videos!

I didn't understand how to fold the heart. I tried, tried and tried but I loved the box. It is beautiful indeed.
Wouldn't it be cool if one side was your favourite colour, and the other side was your partner's favourite colour?

See the trapezoid/almost-triangle pointing right in the center of the paper? *6:48) Basically follow those fold lines and fold back/in front like she does (lol sorry this is two years late, hope you've already made it by now)
me too! that step isn't very well explained.
@webkinz, true i had trouble making it compact like a box, but after you fold the left piece back at 6:52 yknow those two horizontal parallel lines in the center? @ 7:04 she doesn't really do it, but I folded the lines so the top/bottom lids close together. hope that helps!

Excellent heart box! It does need thin paper my first attempt cost me the paper, it ripped at some point where it creased in a weird corner. I will try it again, thanks for the wonderful tutorial! May all the boxes contain love for you and not just the heart-shaped ones! ^_^

+Hikari Hitachiin 210 mm is 21 cm, lol. you have the same size paper as in the video so just use the same measurements.
What about 20cm paper? Do you take of 1 cm ? Btw love this design

The first markings are 1/6 of the way in
If I use a paper 11.7 cm, the first marking were?
1.7cm should be good :)

I would like to make one on valentines day, I would like it to fit around 8 Ferrero Rocher-sized chocolate, what size of the paper should I use?
I'm not sure what size they are, but maybe start with some bigger paper, maybe 30 x 30 cm, or even 40 x 40 cm :)
I can't get the fold that pulls everything together, it's not working ( 6:50 ). Any tips?
+Kari G Yes even I have some trouble with that... remember the top and bottom are closing towards you, the left is going behind and then folded with that middle section which folds to the right. Sorry I'm not too good with description..!

+chelsey rodriguez sorry for the late reply but try to replay the part over and over again, each time take a look at the different sections of the paper, and its also helpful to change the speed.
I couldn't get it at first but replay the part and make sure to crease the two sides and carefully TRY TO force it in
if it looks impossible don't give up never give up
In case anyone cares those first folds are 1/6 of the way in from each side.

One problem... If you give this to someone how will they know which side to yank???
It's always the inner side. Also, if the paper's thin, you should be able to feel where the lid attaches.
What paper is she using cause I can do everything but it don't work it's bull and I had the same measurements and everything but the crises kept ripping and o have real origami paper wt
if it's ripping maybe your folds are too harsh, or paper too thin. Or you could try larger paper :)
