Everyone is talking about the announcer somehow not seeing Mind That Bird, but what about that horse. Halfway through the final turn he found a passing gear. He was leaving the rest of the horses by strides and strides I thought it looked almost magical. Then near the finish he pointed back to someone just to rub their nose in his dust(slop). Just a stellar horse performance!!
What a missed opportunity for an amazing call. This could have been an instant classic. Just an incredible comeback and win by this horse and he didn't get a mention until he was in front by 5 lengths and the race was all but over.
One of the greatest upset races of all time and an announcer that missed the call. If you haven’t seen the multiple moves this jock and horse make you can’t truly appreciate the race. It’s insane. One of my favorite races I’ve ever watched live and I missed it too because I was listening to the play call. Watching it live I caught the winner after the last corner and didn’t see when he let the horse go halfway between the 3rd & 4th corner. He dropped the hammer and it’s really a spectacle.
I wouldn't even say he dropped the hammer until the straight. He just pushed the horse on a bit more and it flew past the backmarkers like they weren't there. Really smart riding to let the horse sit off the pace until that point.
whitey 1 Durkin is a great commentator usually, he just really botched this one. He was not expecting what happened but moreover, it seemed he wasn’t paying attention and didn’t see the move the horse made coming into the final turn

How do you have your binoculars on the race and not see this horse making a gigantic move. When Borel asked him to run it was like he was shot out of a cannon. He much, much, much the best down the stretch,
Tough to call a race with 20 horses in it. Running far back then sneakily blowing by the tired horses in mid stretch totally surprised the announcer. Probably the most dramatic Derby I've ever seen. Kudos to Calvin Borel and Mine That Bird.

Greatest run since Secretariat at Belmont.
...spectacular, spectacular...impossible, the announcer was stunned, at a loss for words...couldn't believe his eyes 😳
I loved those statements and that he and so many others thought it was impossible for Mine That Bird. If ever there was a true story of joyous hope it is this win for Mine That Bird!
Rich Strike almost had a mind that Bird moment this year
Another great horse with the DNA
MOST AMAZING RACE EVER.
Legendary win but worst race caller to ruin it. Should be fired & never call any big races like these.
There's a few frames at 1:32, but on one of them, he was dead last. I've never seen anything it.
Not just last but way, way, way behind! His rocket burst victory was surreal and the most thrilling thing, I've ever seen!
It's good to remember that the announcer is Human...and his call was honest. I didn't see mind that bird until after I realized he won and replayed this video multiple times to see where he started to come up. Great call....we were all surprised!!
The announcer was just as surprised as we were!!! Lol incredible race!!! Won my first 1k on the Derby! I mean 1k isn’t bad for a 20$ bet! 🤷🏼♂️
el andar de la vida es asi, recorrer el camino a un ritmo suave pero demoledor en el cual vamos mirando nuestros frutos.
What an incredible horse!
He says, “Last of them all is Mister Hot Stuff.” Then corrects himself because he realizes Mine That Bird is about 30 lengths back.... as Borel is guiding Mine That Bird up the Rail... the announcer is shocked it’s Mine that Bird... he was literally 30 lengths back.... it would of been nice for the announcer to acknowledge just HOW FAR BACK Mine that Bird was..... but he BLEW IT!
That was a 'reverse Secretariat' run.....
The horse was ten lengths ahead when the announcer noticed him!
incredible race and a superb victory !
