    Thanks for that video very helpful & far more safer than knitting on a treadmill. Another podcaster I follow knits on the treadmill. I needed more exercise, also as an insomniac I thought I could knit on the treadmill while watching a TV series at 3am, I even bought a spindle hanger to load the ball of yarn onto. The yarn became caught at the top of the spinner, I looked down, and it didn't end well, lol. Trouble was, at 3am, the treadmill in the garage/gym, only the dog came to the rescue. 2 fractures and a moonboot for 6months. The paramedic chuckled, 'I've attended a few extreme sport injuries over the years, but this is my first extreme knitting accident'. Unlike the treadmill, when walking, if you need to look at something, can stop walking with safety,

      Oh my goodness! You poor thing. What a calamity! I have fallen on treadmills before even without knitting so i can understand how easily that could happen.

    What a great episode! I'm working on my New Year's cast on and I think I'm going to try this. We've been walking in the neighborhood, and you made it look like so much fun that I'm inspired! Thank you for always sharing your love of knitting with us! Hugs from Texas!

    Wow Tash - you are a legend. I have been trying to summon up the gumption to do a knit/walk. I shared the idea with my knitting group and they looked at me aghast - and said, NO, you wouldnt. And I said, well I might……. And I would like to listen to a podcast along the way! I know it’s nerdy … but who doesnt love a multi-tasking nerd. Hmmm. I am going to try it. Will keep you posted and thanks for the inspirational vid. 🧶🚶‍♀️🎧

    Thank you for getting me off the couch. I don't like sports, but on the other hand, I'm addicted to knitting. I'm already knitting my third hat since the first time I saw the hats you knit while walking.

    My husband walked in and went “Oh it’s Tash…… what the hell is she doing?!” And then he asked why? 🤭😂 it’s called multi tasking dear, you know that word men don’t understand 🙊 I’m sure you’ve inspired a lot of people 💪🏻

      I love that your husband knows my name. :)
      Thanks for the encouragement, Karen. I never really liked walking. I always wanted to get exercise over and done with as quickly as possible so i ran instead of walked to get the same distance travelled in half the time...
      Now i actually quite like my walks. And it feels more peaceful to me than running. Probably better on my joints as well. x

      @@mostlyknitting I could walk for days but 100m of running and I'm complaining like there's no tomorrow ha ha ha - never was a runner but I loved the idea of how fast and efficient it was but my legs never would co-operate! Happy New Year Tash, here's to a fab 2025 x Oh I just watched the beginning of your Audrey top in linen video, love it!!

    I practice not looking at my knitting while watching your videos. So far, I’ve had varied results and a LOT of split stitches! 😅

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      If you have a choice of needles, i would recommend ones with more blunt tips like Addis so you are less likely to split your stitches. And less splitty yarn can help. At least in the beginning when you are learning to knit by feel. :)

    Thanks for this video. I like to knit and walk, but can’t do it this time of year in Maine - it’s just too cold out. I usually just knit socks or whatever small project I have, but I like the idea of always having a hat ready to go for walking.

    Thanks, Tash! I loved the video, but at my age, I think I'll pass on the walking/knitting combo. Twenty years ago, while visiting rural China, I was amazed by the number of women knitting garments with double pointed needles as they walked. I had never seen anything like that. All the best for a happy New Year!

      @mostlyknitting  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That's so interesting that you saw lots of women doing this in China - and whole garments. That's awesome. Thanks for sharing that. It definitely isnt for everyone, but it is a lot easier than people might think. Have a wonderful new year as well. :)

    You’re an inspiration, Tash - I made three of the bags this week and have enjoyed walking and knitting. I especially like doing it when hiking with my husband who doesn’t walk as fast as I do so it slows me down a bit. In my old bags sometimes he would be picking up my yarn when it would fall out 😂. Happy New Year!

      Wonderful!! Thanks so much! Knitting technique seems to be key. Perhaps also relatively loose knitting is important so that one doesn't have to struggle and stare down those stitches. 🤣

    I need to try to knit and walk bcz I feel bad if I don’t go on a walk but at the same time I don’t want to stop knititng… this is a great compromise ❤️🏃🏼‍♀️‍➡️

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I agree! I think it works best if you keep it to small, easy items. I usually am not as excited to knit on them and usually want to work on larger items like garments. But i do want to make them. So keeping them to when i am walking keeps the momentum on them. :)

    Thanks for the video, Tash. Does continental knitting help? That was a beautiful area where you filmed. Happy New Year!

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you so much Joan. I am not sure that continental is any easier or more difficult. As long as you are knitting comfortably, that is enough. Perhaps if you drop the needle when holding the yarn in your right hand, it might be a bit more challenging which would then make continental easier. :)

    Interesting Tash, for sure. I walk to get away from my knitting, my eyes need a good refocus. Please don't knit while riding the bike though, because you probably could. Loved that blue sweater.

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks Amy. Sometimes I think my hands actually need a break so i try not to go from couch and knitting to walking and knitting. So it will be more like do some chores and then go for a walk and knit. I definitely wouldnt try to knit and ride a bike. I'm likely to fall off even without my knitting....

    Thank you for the video. Do you find that your gauge is different when you are walking than it is when you are sitting?

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I havent found that but i think it might be if there was a lot of weight on the needles... I also probably wouldnt swatch for a sweater on a walk, just in case. I'm not saying you can't, i just would wonder if the tension might be different and i wouldnt be knitting the sweater on a walk, so i wouldnt do the swatch on a walk.
