Just heard the sad news that Gordon Lightfoot passed away at the age of 84. I was a young boy when his songs Sundown and If You Could Read My Mind were big hits. He was truly one of the great singer-songwriters of the 70's. A musician with heart and soul. Rest In Peace, Gordon!
My sister and brother-in-law bought this album for me on my birthday. I still have the original vinyl record. It remains one of my all time favorites.😊❤
I wonder how many people remember when they first heard this song. I lived in South Carolina and it was played on every radio station, juke box and cable music channel. My daughter learned to dance in her crib to the tune of Sundown. Our downstairs neighbors played it 24 hours a day and the walls were very thin. I have such fond memories of that time. Thanks for the memories, Gordon
newbie to gordon. i have to say i am impressed. just a tremendous voice and talent. i have listened to tons of music in my life time, but just keep filling in the gaps.
Some of the greatest lyrics in pop music history: "I can see her looking fast in her faded jeans. She's a hard loving woman, got me feeling mean." BAM!
"Sometimes I think it's a sin when I feel like I'm winning when I'm losing again" Boy can I relate to that! Thank you Gordon Lightfoot, a true Canadian treasure and thank you for your wonderful music! I love how the audience start clapping...would have been great to be there!!
My mom always says that men have two brains; it's the second one that gets them into trouble. She and my dad have been married for 38 years and have known each other for 48; they met the first day of grade 9. My parents listened to Lightfoot A LOT during high school, university and when they were first married! My dad even took my mom to see him perform at Massey Hall. Happy 76th, Gordon!
Ms Edwards : No -----we don't have 2 brains. It's just that from the moment the tidal wave of adolescence hits us, our brains are hijacked by our balls ! ------It usually lasts until we hit-------ohhhhh, say, about 105 y/o. ------------------------------Wolfsky9, 72 y/o
A great live performance of one of my favorite songs. Gordon Lightfoot is one of those singers a lot of people today haven’t heard of. Play them a song or two, and they become a new fan. Rest easy Gordon, your music and talent live on.
I loved that song. I wanted to call one of my daughters Sundown but my husband wouldn't let me. Lol. My daughter is glad that her Dad put his foot down!!!
was in a head shop in OKC in 1973 and the Sundown Album had just been released. Lightfoot was a poet and this was his breakout album. I had heard him before but was completely blown away when I found out this was him. Has to be one of the landmark albums of the 70's. It was one of the first really great acoustical albums.
This is the closest thing to time travel we have. I watch this and I'm magically transported back to 1974. Things really were carefree and easy back then.
I was very young when I first started listening to his music in the 70's. I could play his songs over and over again. I still can do that to this day,and get the same feelings.
To NonFictionRobert: Lightfoot is one of those voices that my generation (I'm 52) was blessed with. John Denver, Jim Croce, Neil Diamond, Gordon Lightfoot and of course, Harry Chapin...We had the best of the music world then, but many now don't remember it, and in doing so, miss out on what was so great.
I just literally found out about this song 30 minutes ago, already addicted lol I agree though, there is indeed something about this song that's so good but I cant quite place it
Two outstandin' Lightfoot Classics. It's fantastic that younger generations respect, appreciate and feel the Spirit of this fine Musician. I was born in 1974 when this hit was released. A Humble Man that Loved writing His own songs. You should check out Gordon & Johnny Cash singin' together.
I think that a lot of good music is written even today, but I do agree with you that Gordon is one of the greatest singer-songwriters ever. Finn Jackie (b. 1948)
I am British and proud to be, but this man is the cream of the crop as far as I am concerned, great songs with awesome lyrics, wish I could have seen him perform live, look after him Cnada, he is one of your best. Live a long and healthy life Gordon with no more problems.
I love Gordon, I am 37 and I remember hearing his music as a young girl, even though my life was hell, for some reason whenever I hear this song it puts me at ease. I love Gordon and am so glad to listen to this timeless piece of music which gives me so much happiness and peace.
I have listened to Gord since I was in grade school due to my Dad being a fan. Have seen him in concert about 15 times. Great, great musician. Kick ass band too!
one of my favorite songs ever with the best line for me for sure: sometimes I think it's sin when I get feeling like I'm winning when I am losing again. so true bro, so tru.
always loved this song, it's one of those rare songs that never gets old....... p.s. when I was a kid growing up in Oklahoma I never knew he was Canadian :)
Gordon Lightfoot is my favourite musical artist! He made me want to learn to play guitar. I saw him live in early 2009 in Calgary, and he put on an excellent show. One of my favourite things to do is get drunk, put a stack of Lightfoot LPs on the record changer, pull out my guitar, and play along.
One of the first records I ever got. It was a 45 and had Wreck of Edmund Fitzgerald on one side and Sundown on the other. I loved this song and I was only a little kid! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!! This song.
The days when lyrics came from logic & common sense, yep stuck in the 70's as well as the 60's before I was born and even the 50's I'm a music loving hippie soul
My oldest is 4 and when he was just a little baby and would cry we would play this and he would always calm down or fall asleep. Just great soothing music. 5/5
This is the way music should be. Write your songs, play them, sing them and IF people liked it your a star. No gimmick, no video, no talent contest on T.V. with judges and call in or text vote. Just PURE TALENT .

Gordon just Kicks ASS!! Love his music! Thanks!
This was my favorite song back in the 70's and it's just as good now! Gordon Lightfoot has such a beautiful voice, still does!
Beautiful song, a true 70's gem. RIP Gordon.
One of the worlds best singers of all time we lov him down under.
Just saw him in concert tonight, 06-28-2016 . He put on a terrific performance even at the age of 78. Great concert!
One of the finest contributions to the world Canada ever gave. God bless Gordon Lightfoot!
My sister and brother-in-law bought this album for me on my birthday. I still have the original vinyl record. It remains one of my all time favorites.😊❤
AM radio in the 70's. He was one of my favorites, always remember this.
I remember on Casey Kasem's top 40 every Sunday afternoon when 'If I could read your mind' was on it.
It was KYA and KFRC AM locally here in the SF Bay Area. Almost no one listened to FM in those days. AM was king.
......Just had a flashback!!!...I remember this song at only five years of age!! The best music stays with you!!

This song was one of my late brother Paddy's favourites. When I hear it I am reminded of him. A lovely song.

It's called a brain and an anti-brain!
Happy Anniversary to your parents. All men aren't of two minds.... we just can't figure which lady we're talking to.
It was gods sense of humour to give men both a brain and a p*nis, but only enough blood to work one at a time.
Men have two heads. Neither has brains. Lol
Such a rare talent, both sound and content. You could never, ever mistake that voice or the feeling he gives you.
P
One of the balladeers of our time...was happy to see him on CBS this morning. Keep rocking Gordon !
My favorite Gordon song and video, I could listen to this all day long!
Gordon Lightfoot has a set of vocal cords that are as unique as it gets, his great voice is so easy to listen to and sing along!

How beautiful to see a roomful of people who are NOT playing with cell phones during a concert.
That would be pretty impressive in 1974.
lmao yah dude this is the 70's where cell phones weren't even a thing
Well, yeah, they weren't invented yet. However, if they were, you'd see them. It's human nature.
So true. I am done with concerts because of this.
AMEN-------& ------AMEN AGAIN !! -------------------WolfSky9, 72 y/o
I was very young when I first started listening to his music in the 70's. I could play his songs over and over again. I still can do that to this day,and get the same feelings.

It's cool to see the videos like these because I always hear Gordon Lightfoot on the radio but never saw him sing live until now. Thanks for posting!
He is without a doubt one of the most under rated and under appreciated singers.
Ummm, you are not underrated when you are Bob Dylan's favorite singer/songwriter. Gord is definitely Canada's poet laureate.
a class act and one of the best singer songwriters anywhere
love this song never get tired of it
Now I Remember!...There was a real bad thunderstorm that reminds me of this song!! I was living in New York at the time. I Miss the 70's!!

Excellent!!...you don't often get a live performance that sounds, in my opinion, better than the studio recording.
I was 3 when this song came out. Remember hearing it on the radio. To this very day, it reminds me of being a 3 year old. Terrific song!
Omg I love Gordon Lightfoot. He's a awesome singer..

Tonight is Lightfoot's last sundown as a 74-year-old. He rolls over the 3/4-century mark at 7 o'clock tomorrow morning Eastern standard time.
Agreed! Many happy returns to the day, too! I don't think I've heard a song from "Gordo" that I didn't like.
One of the first records I ever got. It was a 45 and had Wreck of Edmund Fitzgerald on one side and Sundown on the other. I loved this song and I was only a little kid! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!! This song.
I think this is a faster meter than the studio recording... a great song, so melodic
Me too.
Still such an awesome tune and artist♥️
He was pro. Knew the platform. Play quick but not rushed. He and the band rocked.
