My first ever job was as a doffer in the mill in 1969.I left school on a Friday and started there on the Monday. My granny worked there along with a few of my aunts many years before me.I lived in Alexander street till 1966 and remember the Millar family very well.I still see Nancy now and again.

Thank you posting - a real Ballymena song! Lovely to see the Ballygarvey connection. Walking home from Harryville school the Mill was part of this Ballymena child's history.

Thank you Will Millar for reminding me of my childhood spent in and around Springwell St. the Millar boys from Princess St.went on to make their mark on the world stage through music.Your Mother was so proud of you all and I still remember some of you would return to jam in the Raglan and Ladysmith Bars in July fortnight .Many of the old lads have passed on and the old memories are all that is left .I still see Billy from time to time and remember you all .

Thanks Norman... No matter how many years go by, those Ballymena memories stick till the end! McQuillans pub, the Fair hill, The park, the mill, big drums and banners, fish and chips at Caufields and sliders at McGroggans - all come back often to old chaps like me.

A very heart warming song. Cat Wood couldn't say it any better, the words and tune pulls on you, my heart was certainly drawn to this song like a magnet. Wonderful tune, absolutely marvelous. And the ending song was a nice cheery song to lighten the mood a bit. Love it.

Sad to see the old mill come down but I do enjoy learning the history this way, through your ballad. I guess the old days and the old ways always have to change and fade away. To leave some memorial would be nice though.

Beautiful song Will. I've never been there, but could feel the pull of it in the words & melody. :) Thanks for sharing.... How are you and Catherine these days? Have you seen Tina at all lately?
