Rayman Origins has all of those characters introduced in 2 because it takes place after 2 and 3. The Origins in the title is just a byproduct of the scrapped idea of this game being a prequel to all games and Ubisoft heading back to their roots with Rayman.
What's the deal with this video. I mean it's not bad or anything I guess your points are valid. But what was the mission here, seems a bit all over the place. Feels like you're a lil hung up on the games title.
i get you man, this guy is criticizing these platforming masterpieces insanely heavily, this entire video is pointless and triggering. i mean its a fucking platforming game, who gives a shit about the fucking story, the fucking gameplay is what matters. that said, the story isn't even bad, it fits the rayman loose and relaxy theme and combined with everything else it truly makes the game tons of fun.
There’s a wiki for all the characters in all the Rayman games and if you go to Edith Up’s page it describes her as, and I quote “Larger, more curvaceous, and bustier than her sisters”
Here i come Better than the rest of the them The best of them Tougher than RAYMAN They call me RAYMAN Im like RAYMAN I dont chuckle... Id rather flex my RAYMAN
I'm hard as RAYMAN it ain't hard to RAYMAN I break 'em down whether they're RAYMAN or RAYMAN Unlike RAYMAN I'm independent since my first RAYMAN First RAYMAN, feel the RAYMAN, than the RAYMAN
I think it would have been cool if the story was that rayman was asleep and his dreams were being attacked by the bubble dreamer's nightmares, the origins part could be a section where the nightmares try to attack his memories
The main villain in Rayman Origins, simply called the "Magician", is a "NOT Mr.Dark". As in it is kinda explained once that he was a huge fan of Mr.Dark and wanted to be just like him, hence why he is dressed similar and why one of the papers in his stage says "Mr.Dark" with a heart symbol on it. But yet for some reason they cut out all of the dialogue that explained the Magician's backstory which is very stupid since all that did was made the whole misconception that Mr.Dark was meant to return was made pointless and having the Magician being the surprise villain seem out of nowhere.
As a fan of three first Raymans I totally loved the Origins. I just finished it and I'm sad it was so short. I like your sense of humour and video editing, just saw Your video about DX-Ball 2 which I 100% agree! BTW what do You think about fact that Michel Ancel is going to start making Rayman 4 after finishing "Wild i Beyond Good & Evil 2"? Personally I'm hyped af :)
Happy you enjoyed the video (and seemingly the DX Ball 2 Narrative)! Stoked about Rayman 4! I believe that if there's anyone at Ubisoft who knows how to make games, it's Ancel and his team at Montpellier. I can't get too excited about it until we get details, but I have faith in those french boys.
The main music theme of the game is also in the trailer, but not in the game itself. Which is weird. The melody can be heard throughout the score, informs the key changes and so on, but the actual main theme is just left out so it all feels disconnected instead of it being the red thread. I thought that was weird.
I think they could have gone 2 ways with the story, they could have gone even more over the top than they did and have Rayman and Globox as goofy dudes who gets caught up in the middle of it, or they could have a pretty serious story with stakes, but they landed right in the middle with rayman and globox as your goofy dudes but they’re doing all this stuff that isn’t explained but still seems pretty important. I thought we were moving because we made some old people mad, why are there these king guys I have to save and who’s this magician guy?
At 6:55 you're not kidding about them being recolours. Every single one of them has the exact same face when you free them. That's why I call them The Same Face Syndrome Sisterhood.
I think Rayman Origins is actually just an alternate cannon, where as Rayman's normal series is cannon, this one is more forward on giving him a newer interpretation of what he could have been rather than who he really is. That's my theory anyway.
I hate to break it to you, but Rayman may actually have an anus, and a large one at that. I saw it in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc in Razoff's Mansion located in the Bog of Murk. The place had some shattered glass on the floor in some areas, and I adjusted the camera towards the glass to see Rayman's body from the bottom up, and it turns out that he has a large gray slot on the lower end of his torso. Not really sure whether that was an anus or just how his shirt is sealed around him. Possibly the latter, but a....peculiar find nonetheless. It's been years since I've played it, but that's what I remember seeing, if I recall correctly.
I think it's called rayman origins because it's supposed To be some sort of a reboot to Rayman 1, in fact, some of the enemies in jibberish jungle are literally the same enemies from rayman 1, another thing to note is that in rayman origins, in the first level of each World, you get a new power, just like in rayman 1 And the second world of origins is literally just band land
This video comes across kinda snarky and condescending. Like.. I get it. I already knew the title was referring to Rayman 1, 2 and 3. Its halfway through the video and I feel like you havent really made a point other than "some things are similar and some things are different" I think that could be said of... almost any video game sequel.
You've earned yourself a sub. Very humourous analysis and you have addressed what I was thinking in terms of the lore but I have never really said it out loud.
Actually, I the story was pretty much just as simple as the first one, it’s just the sense of impending destruction gone due to the difficulty, and the lack of speed. Rayman origins is VERY much a game with which to run through. Also supposedly that teensie you faught at the end is actually supposed to be Mr. Dark. (Also, love manuals, boktai, AND britilla the fairy’s luscious deadly thighs.)
The game was originally going to tell Rayman's Origins (as in how he was made and all that). This is why the trailer gives a snippet as to how Rayman came about. Though during development, they decided to discard this plot (no idea why). They decided to use the same title, as they thought "Origins" could refer to the gameplay returning to it's roots (or origins). This could also explain why it goes into so much detail about the story in the manual. It's clear that they didn't want any confusion, and put in the origin story anyways, even if it isn't present in-game. So Origins means both in some ways.
1) the game changed a lot between announcement and release. It was supposed to be an episodic prequel and it became a complete reboot. Games tend to do that.. 2) story isn't a big part of Rayman 1. I can make the point that Origins world is more threatening (like when the hotland guardian eats entire buildings and spit them at you) 3) to me Rayman was about the art. It's more of a playable cartoon than anything. It being a hard game is a bonus, but it's the beautiful world that captures my heart. Origins replicates that perfectly. It is a playable cartoon, and I love it...
inkling boy 4 that is quite impossible. The art style is 2D cartoon. Now art direction, that is a more appropriate term. Maybe cell shading? Now it would be a sin to not mention Rayman Legends, that had quite great 3D models as some of the bosses...
Cube³ Rayman 1 had story, but not much of a story. It had as much story as Sonic 1, or your average Mario game... ...which isn't a criticism. Ever. If you don't want to tell a story, then don't. We don't care. Now if it tried to tell a story and failed (like Sonic 06) that would be a problem. Moreover Rayman 1 is a playable cartoon as well. Older cartoon, sure, but still a cartoon. I mean you have to rescue tiny cute ElecTOONS that were captured after the villain, MS. DARK stole the great ProTOON. Any more clues? How about the two recurring enemies are AntiTOONS and an Elmer Fudd-esqe hunter that shoots bullets with a hammer inside, and that every second item in the world had googly eyes like it's a 90's Rare game?!? Playable cartoon is a complement, not a criticism. In an industry that strives to boring realism it's nice to see games with imagination and art. Sure, it'd be cool if there was also a good story (Heck, I like NieR, a game which story is about the only complement you can give it. And music). Art is as much a valid reason to like (or hate) a game as story is. Sure Origin promised an origin story for Rayman and Globox, but it also promised to be episodic as well. Many games change during development, and if they still deliver a good game then it's OK. In the end I was promised a glorious return of my favorite character in gaming and I got just that. I completed it multiple times because I like it. Not because I'm a dumb baby or because I forgot the original, which I also completed several times. I actually like Origins because I like Rayman 1, and Origins is so much like it... I hope you and I'll get a Rayman game with a deep story. In the meantime let us have our fun with the Rayman game we actually have, OK?
I would love a remake of both games packed into 1 and made some reworks for the levels in Origins to match the creativeness of Legends. AND the inclusion of the lore in the games. Having a few cutscenes here and there between the levels.
I found some of the coments pretty bitter here. Just wanted to say that I get that you are not deming the game as bad or that the diference in mechanics from the franchise are bad, but that you are legit confused about how this is suposed to be a return to form for the franchise, since it flips most of the elements. I personally like what they have done here (Granted, I would had like more of a story), but I can get (and even share a bit of) your frustration.
I'm fairly confident that this early plot that was scrapped is why Rayman has a noticably higher pitched voice in this game compared to most other Rayman games.
I think it's called Origins not to just tie various new characters to the beginning but rather to try and well 'originate' a new beginning. Basically bringing it back to the 2D roots as inspiration but still trying to make it stand out from previous titles. And the game is as hard as you WANT it to be, or rather as hard as you are willing to go when reaching for 100%. They chose to make the base game easy to allow players to be encouraged to explore for more to do and then get challenged in the process. Good design philosophy.
About the manuals, I remember owning a copy of Raving Rabbids 2 (I refuse to put "Rayman" in the title of these games), which either was broken or my computer was horrible, because 90% of the minigames either didn't work at all or the textures were missing. The only minigame that was seemingly working as intended was Hot Potato. I spent a lot of time reading the manual, thinking about all those minigames I couldn't play. In hindsight, I don't really mind it. Rabbids are stupid.
and sometimes...SOMETIMES the manual came in color. that felt so rare, but amazing. i screamed at all the colored pages and seeing the illustrations of everything IN COLOR. anywho, beautiful story told. and a true one at at.....aaaaa someday. maybe...MAYBE

The game's title still works because, rather than being a cohesive look at the origin of Rayman, it instead focuses on going back to Rayman's 2D roots, A.K.A., his *origins.*
i'm 16 years old, i played both origins and legends when i was a kid, and just now discovered that rayman series been around much longer than i thought
Rayman Origins and Legends became some of my favourite games i also tried the older Rayman games... but i just didn't enjoy them... like at all. I didn't have almost any fun playing them.
Wow I came into this video ready to hate because I thought you were going to crap on Rayman Origins, a game I REALLY love and in my opinion not only perfectly captures the wacky, silly, and breathtakingly creative spirit of Rayman throughout the series, but also elevates the platforming gameplay from Rayman 1. I was really surprised that I got this well edited, HILARIOUS video on why Rayman Origins should have been more about Rayman's story and actual origins! This video is SUPER funny and presented with so many brilliant jokes and insights! I can't tell you how much I enjoyed it! I can tell you're a true fan of Rayman despite your mild disappointment with Origins. I really hope you cover Rayman again in the future. More funny and well done Rayman essays like this would be awesome!
Man, comments like this make my day. Thank you SO much for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed the video as much as you did! As for future essays, I'm not sure about more Rayman-focused ones, but I'm definitely open to making more if I get any ideas. It's a great and interesting series.
I'm glad to see someone else shares my opinions on this series. I, too, was disappointed by the newer games lack of story and weight. While, yes, the previous games never had "deep stories" per se, they had a sense of magic and adventure that really stuck with you and also had a feeling of threat looming over you throughout your journey (especially in the second game). Those games felt like magical adventures through a mystical and mysterious fantasy world, while the newer games feel like wacky romps through a goofy world with a hint of ambience. A lot of commenters on this vid seem to have the whole "platformers dont need stories" mentality, when they fail to realize that that very thing is what made Rayman so special, so losing that feels disappointing. Anyways, sorry for the long invective. I agree with a lot of what you said. I love this series and I really hope that we get a new entry down the line that expands on the fantasy adventure feel again.
Agreed! One of my favorite things about Rayman 2 and 3 is that you get a real sense of the world they take place in, and they feel living and breathing. I get what everyone is saying, a game certainly doesn't *need* a story or atmosphere to be great, but I think it adds a lot to the experience. An often mentioned example here is Mario's uninspired stories, but I'd argue that Mario games like Sunshine and Odyssey do a great job of building fleshed-out organic worlds that really make them unique. It doesn't always have to be huge or extensive, but a touch of atmosphere goes a long way.
Origins forgiving? REALLY?! Because I spent 5 controllers on that game. Jump wrong in the tooth levels: Fucked. Caught up by the screen: Fucked. Missed a thing: Fucked. Riding a snake like thing and be too slow: Fucked. I love the graphics. But boy: When it comes to gameplay, it is very hard!
Land of the Livid Dead did my head in. Granted, I'm not a very good PS player as I don't play super often, but MAN. After 17 trillion attempts I'm like "SATAN MADE THIS LEVEL"
Why does everyone complain about limited lives in rayman 1? There was a SAVE FEATURE where you could SAVE YOUR GAME and then LOAD it when you lost all your lives.
I liked Legends a whole lot more, not only because it pretty much contains most of Origins through the Return to Origins-levels, but also because I knew what kind of tone and gameplay to expect at that point. I never expected Legends to be any more lore-heavy or less wacky than Origins, therefore I wasn't at all disappointed when we got what we got: A sequel that improved on the groundwork that was laid out in Origins. It had fewer ties to older games than Origins, and I feel like that allowed it to have more of a distinct identity. I also really liked the different, slightly more grounded atmosphere that comes to life through Legends' music and graphical overhaul. Legends' story is still pretty unimpressive, but hey. Rad music levels.
Ehhh Rayman Legends just feels like it's trying so hard to not be Origins but fucks it up by being easier and having approximately 50% of the levels being levels from Origins which feels lot better to play with the refined Legends engine than the Legends levels.
Diego Medina How is that the case? Rayman controls practically the same in both games, and the game was advertised as a follow up to Origins. I honestly think Rayman Legends is the best game in the series so far, it improves on what Rayman Origins did in almost every way, plus I find that Rayman Legends has a greater sense of flow and mechanics.
"its not a bad thing"... It IS a bad thing, i remember how interested and invested i was in the story of say 2 when i got it as a 10yo, what would a kid or adult be playing origins/revolution for? Just to play? Well, that's fine, but its gonna be left behind and forgotten, as it doesn't relay any story or feelings, doesn't make you think or imagine anything, just consume and forget production line stampware.
I've never played Rayman Origins, but I played all of the "Back to origins" levels in Rayman Legends and it was such a good bunch of levels that I was sad to have not bought Origins along side it.
New super mario bros is the same thing lol Don’t take the title literally, it’s rayman “origin(S)” it’s plural. meaning more then 1 origin, so it’s from rayman 1, 2 and 3. And the game would be a mediocre rehash if they didn’t add all the extra characters. I really don’t understand how you are confused in the slightest.

I love these games.
that's the biggest disappointment, no writing, no story, no fun scenes with the villains at all, all these things that made the og rayman exciting.
Oh my God. I used to do the same exact thing with game manuals when I was younger but by the time Origins came out I had stopped and I didn't even THINK to look for more lore details in the manual XD Love the video dude.
Car ride manual reading was the bomb! Glad you enjoyed the vid!

You're right! it is! I think the only problem with it is that it's way too short. you can beat the whole game in like, 5 hours.

But origins is the hardest rigth ?
Rayman Origins has all of those characters introduced in 2 because it takes place after 2 and 3. The Origins in the title is just a byproduct of the scrapped idea of this game being a prequel to all games and Ubisoft heading back to their roots with Rayman.
I miss Ly and Clark though. o.o Was cool seeing a cat fairy on your journey and Clark would have fit right in with Origin's art style.
@katchungas sorry to say but its a sequel, quick google search shows that much, although it probably did retcon some stuff, its still a sequel

I think his point is why it is called Rayman Origins when it is not a prequel.
It's more focused on story rather than Gameplay.
There’s a wiki for all the characters in all the Rayman games and if you go to Edith Up’s page it describes her as, and I quote “Larger, more curvaceous, and bustier than her sisters”
Here i come
Better than the rest of the them
The best of them

They call me RAYMAN
Im like RAYMAN
I dont chuckle...
Id rather flex my RAYMAN
I'm hard as RAYMAN
it ain't hard to RAYMAN
I break 'em down whether they're RAYMAN or RAYMAN
Unlike RAYMAN I'm independent since my first RAYMAN
First RAYMAN, feel the RAYMAN, than the RAYMAN
Saw that You have very few subscribers comparing to your videos quality. I'm happy to become one of them. :)
Looking forward for more of Your videos!
rayman origins is short?!
@@Allstarknight I think it's called Origins because it's Rayman's return to 2d gameplay. Which is a Miracle since 2d games usually niche at that time.

I think Origins was awesome ! :)
Elias Plattner it was,i played it and it was exciting.
but sadly ubisoft ruined rayman with his rabbids
It's been over a decade since Rayman Origins came out back in 2011... Wow
The main music theme of the game is also in the trailer, but not in the game itself. Which is weird. The melody can be heard throughout the score, informs the key changes and so on, but the actual main theme is just left out so it all feels disconnected instead of it being the red thread. I thought that was weird.
You waaay overthink this stuff: In the best and most awesomely entertaining way. Great video!

I think Rayman Origins is actually just an alternate cannon, where as Rayman's normal series is cannon, this one is more forward on giving him a newer interpretation of what he could have been rather than who he really is. That's my theory anyway.

Tracy Mixon Theory: does Rayman have a BUTT!?
Does he need to poop? on another note, if he's perverted, does it mean that he has a dick?
Pepper Millers another mystery that needs to be solved.
@@peppermillers8361 he has a dick. Remember the rayman 3 advertisement
4:25 you predicted Raymans future.
3:21 why does Mr.Dark look so adorable?
I think it's called rayman origins because it's supposed
To be some sort of a reboot to
Rayman 1, in fact, some of the enemies in jibberish jungle are literally the same enemies from rayman 1, another thing to note is that in rayman origins, in the first level of each
World, you get a new power, just like in rayman 1
And the second world of origins is literally just band land
I also cannot begin to describe the joy that reading game manuals gave me as a kid, actually got me hyped to play the game.
In my opinion Rayman: Origins and Legends are damn 10/10 masterpieces and I don't think you can change my mind about it
This video comes across kinda snarky and condescending.
Like.. I get it. I already knew the title was referring to Rayman 1, 2 and 3. Its halfway through the video and I feel like you havent really made a point other than "some things are similar and some things are different"
I think that could be said of... almost any video game sequel.

I can make the point that Origins world is more threatening (like when the hotland guardian eats entire buildings and spit them at you)
3) to me Rayman was about the art. It's more of a playable cartoon than anything. It being a hard game is a bonus, but it's the beautiful world that captures my heart. Origins replicates that perfectly. It is a playable cartoon, and I love it...
strubbery g me too
Now, if we can play that game in 3D but keeping the artstyle...
inkling boy 4 that is quite impossible. The art style is 2D cartoon. Now art direction, that is a more appropriate term. Maybe cell shading?
Now it would be a sin to not mention Rayman Legends, that had quite great 3D models as some of the bosses...
strubbery g That's why I wish. I would love playing a game in 3D with this artstyle
I can imagine the manual smell...
Legends has it that he still has his eyes open for a new Rayman game.
punch wile running what is this madness back in my day we could only punch...and we had to unlock the punch and the run
And then we get captain laserhawk 💀
I found some of the coments pretty bitter here. Just wanted to say that I get that you are not deming the game as bad or that the diference in mechanics from the franchise are bad, but that you are legit confused about how this is suposed to be a return to form for the franchise, since it flips most of the elements. I personally like what they have done here (Granted, I would had like more of a story), but I can get (and even share a bit of) your frustration.
THANK YOU for being a glimmer of light in a sea of misinterpretation!
I'm fairly confident that this early plot that was scrapped is why Rayman has a noticably higher pitched voice in this game compared to most other Rayman games.
3:14 GreenBoi: Oh jesus!!
Rayman: Theres no escape!
In the Beta, the game was actually about Rayman's Origins. But they went a different direction before release.
What a great video! Funny, interesting, well edited, and got across an issue I realised I didn't know I had with Rayman origins and Legends.
Michael Borrego Thank you so much for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed it! :)
6:48 hilarious

Rayman origins is my favorite rayman. Awsome and deep music, an amazing and beautiful art style, and new costumes you can get.
Watching this in 2023 and knowing what happened is funny
I've played Rayman 3, Rayman origins, Rayman legends, (on an xbox and finished 3 and legends and almost with origins) and I played only like 43% of Rayman 2 on a Nintendo 3DS. And the 3DS froze up and I can't fix it. So I can't play 2 anymore. I've never played the first rayman. I still play rayman in 2018. Its my favorite game series

The game's title still works because, rather than being a cohesive look at the origin of Rayman, it instead focuses on going back to Rayman's 2D roots, A.K.A., his *origins.*

After 17 trillion attempts I'm like "SATAN MADE THIS LEVEL"
same, but i still love this game to death
Oh absolutely! Although I prefer Rayman 2 over this, this is still one of the best IMO.
Dude, try the original Rayman game if you're looking for a challenge. Origins is a cakewalk in comparison.
Rayman origins is obviously not that easy but yeah the first rayman game is pretty hard and like he said in the video you don't have infinite lives.
Why does everyone complain about limited lives in rayman 1? There was a SAVE FEATURE where you could SAVE YOUR GAME and then LOAD it when you lost all your lives.
"Bodacious nymphs of the glade" you got that right :)
I'll leave now.
Played this game when I was 13 and when I saw Betilla I knew it was over for me (I became a thigh dude)
Well how did you like the sequel, Rayman Legends?
Rayman Legends is my favourite rayman game and it was my first. Yes I've only been a Rayman fan for like 2-3 years.
But the rayman legends soundtrack is much better tbh
Legends took Origins and made it better on every aspect
I M P I’m inclined to agree. Rayman Legends is one of my favorite games of all time!!!
Legends soundtrack is better but not THAT much, both are fantastic games but I much prefer origins progression and challenge

Don’t take the title literally, it’s rayman “origin(S)” it’s plural. meaning more then 1 origin, so it’s from rayman 1, 2 and 3. And the game would be a mediocre rehash if they didn’t add all the extra characters. I really don’t understand how you are confused in the slightest.
Fantastic video, great balance between game research/analysis, humor, snappy editing and clear VO, very reminiscent of greats like GamingBrit and B-Mask.
