    Welcome Back Everyone, This week we ask the question, Is there is any difference between the Surfprep Sander vs Dewalt/Bosch sander.
    Technical Data
    I took 4 hard maple board and ran than through my helical head planner removing .005 of an inch then put a water base dye on the surface to show my mill marks. I then sanding each board with 120 then 150 and examined to see how many mill marks were left then calculated the square footage of the board and the defect areas to come up with a percentage of the board that the sanders left mill marks on. Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching. Remember to "Test Don't Guess"

      I couldn’t agree more with this comment. This is high level pro painting content. As a business owner Eric gives the information I care about. Going through all your videos and they age well. You have true talent for this, keep up the good work

    Nice test. I was one of the original test users for festool. That really changed my mind. I wish I could sand for only 8 hours a week. Sanding is one of the biggest components for furniture work that I do. A great sander makes a ton of difference.

    For people who are in debates about whether to but a "big box store" $50 to $100 sander vs a $300 to $600 one, the other factor to consider is the vibration piece, which the high end ones excel at, way less vibration, and what i personally detest, is dust, and the high end ones do a great job at collecting the dust, if paired with a good dust collector.

    I like your videos and I've learn something from each one I've watched. I hadn't heard of surfprep before but I'm familiar with Mirka and Festool. Just happend to drink the festool cool-aid first. It looks like Surfprep, Mirka and Festool are in the same league to me. I've had similar customer service with Festool as you've had with Surfprep.
    One thing worth mentioning is a sander with good dust collection really helps keep the sand paper (and lungs) clean which reduces cost and saves time. Festool sanders blow air through the center hole and suck the dirty air out of the perimeter holes. Does Surfprep do the same?
    I understand you are self funded and test product you have available in your "spare" time. You mentioned the different sizes of sanders being tested. I just want to nicely point out that one would expect more material removal from a 6" sander vs a 5" sander because changing from a 5" to a 6" is a 44% change in surface area. I'm still confident that the 5" high end sanders would win a head-to-head contest over the 5" cheap sanders when all things were considered.
    Please keep up the great work, Eric!

    For the money, that Bosch is pretty awesome! I have used all of the name brand sanders, and the Bosch is the best. Can't wait to get that Surf-prep, though!

    Nice video Eric, I just bought a new Mirka DEOS 3X5 orbital sander and vac. Really nice.
    I checked out Surfprep, Festool and Mirka when looking to buy but decided on Mirka. But, you cant go wrong with any of the three. They are all top notch.

    Thanks for the comparison. Definitely will consider Surfprep when I invest in a new sander. Are those sanders all 5”? Hey you should paint your background wall a brighter color. That off white color is depressing. And consider adding your company logo/sign. Just a suggestion.

      PSJ W the surfprep is a 6inch. Thanks for the suggestions. I may get a banner or something. I am not much of a marker. I am not trying to sell or be fancy. I am a straight forward kinda guy what you see is what you get. Thanks for your input. Much appreciated.

    I recently bought the Bosch GET75-6N sander. The sander is a dual function machine, it is a six inch random orbital and can be switched to a geared orbital. Festool and Makita make similar products. The Bosch cost $ 260 + tax on Amazon and can remove material on par with a belt sander. You might want to try one of the aforementioned geared sanders, it think you will be surprised.

      Jack Lucas I had a rotex but I didn’t like it but yes you are correct if you want to Hogg material what you have is the way to go for sure.

      darrin hodges lol!!! I was like I am going to get 100 people that say where’s the festool. You guy have to remember I am a self funded person. I don’t receive products for free from anyone. Everything I have done I have bought or own. Festool makes great sanders. I have several friends that love them. 👍

    I’m not have problems taking material off. My issue is with the swirl marks when sanding and staining hard maple and other woods. I’d love to see a video on a swirl free stain-ready sanding process. Both with the large sander and the 3x4.

    Eric,
    I have been looking at the Surfprep sanders do you prefer the 6" over the 5" ? My wife dose a tone of sanding for us and looking to get sander the is good for her, she need a sander that is easy to control. Great compression we are defiantly ditching our bosch sanders! You are not wrong when you say "you just need to go by one".

    • @ericreason6559
      @ericreason6559  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrew Prather the 5 inch is what most people use. I have had issue with the 6 inch unfortunately.

    Eric I typically do 1 or 2 cabinet jobs a month so I am not sanding that much, do you think that would be worth getting rid of my bosch and spending the money for the real deal ones?

    • @ericreason6559
      @ericreason6559  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s enough for me to pull the trigger. See if you can reach out to surfprep and do a demo on one. Then you can feel and see the difference

    Painter here, I’ve broken my 6th sander, maybe I’m on my 7th..idk...I feel like I’ve tried every big box brand and they all suck. Just broke another dewalt corded finish sander. Could have bought this awesome sander for the amount once spent

    You are not comparing apples to apples. Compare like disk size and like orbit pattern size. Also why would you change grits before the surface is flat? The bigger the pattern size the faster it removes material. if fast surface removal was only concern you would not use RO sander

    • @ericreason6559
      @ericreason6559  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I am not comparing apples to apples that was the point of the video. Just because it’s bigger doesn’t mean it will remove more. I have 5 inch sanders that cut just as fast as a 6inch it’s just less surface area. And the cut rate is always a concern for me. The faster I sand the more money I make. So I want the fast cut rate I can get with a RO sander.

    Your test is flawed. The Surfprep looks like a 6" and the others were 5".

    • @ericreason6559
      @ericreason6559  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ackey858 yes the surfprep and mirka are 6inch sanders. I did not hide that information.
