    Etsy is trying to be more like Amazon. I’m going to start putting a disclaimer in my listing photos explaining that Etsys estimated dates may not reflect accurate delivery times and to refer to their tracking.

    I read this announcement last week. The messing around with shipping times is super frustrating and just down ignorant on their part. As a buyer if I saw a ship date that’s the same as the delivery date I’d assume it was a mistake, but I use common sense. Not to mention the last couple of online orders I’ve placed with other larger retailers, I’ve been advised shipping and delivery times are taking longer right now. As always thanks for your advice and for making these videos to bring awareness to these issues. 😊

    I noticed that even when I fulfill an order the same day, a note pops up when shipping that it "could arrive late". This just started happening a few weeks ago even though my processing days are 3-5 days! Crazy!

    Thanks for the update. My processing time is 1-3 days (in one of my shops) and there's a blue box in my Etsy shipping settings showing that I actually have been shipping in 1-2 days so that's what they want to use. I am someone who works evening hours so I'm always buying labels the night before shipment and then my daughter drops them at the PO on her way to work the next day since she is going that way anyway. So it sounds like buying labels the night before may be why it's making it look like I ship faster than I do. And, I guess, so much for building in an extra day in case of "life happening."

    Things are taking WAAAAY longer to get where they are supposed to go using Priority Mail. Had one order take a MONTH to go to a town 50 miles from me. Thought it was lost and sent a replacement which got there a bit quicker but...TEN DAYS? So etsy's delivery estimates you may as well toss out the window.

    Well (taking your advice from the beginning of this video) I just went over to Etsy to close down my 2 inactive shops. I logged in, fine, went to my settings, fine, but when I clicked "close shop" I got a 404 Error. Twice. So I don't know if they were successfully closed or not. *sigh*

    Thank you Kara! I just had an order marked that it would be delivered on the day I was physically taking it to the post office. My processing and shipping times were incorrectly redone. Thankfully I caught this and contacted the customer informing them there was a system "Etsy" error. The site is just getting ridiculous. It doesn't seem like Etsy is concerned with longevity as this kind of thing can really hurt a business long term.

    • @KaraBuntinTutorials

    Etsy has been doing that for a while now. I always send a message to my customers telling them the date Etsy has given for shipping and telling them that date will probably change and I will let them know when the order is ready to ship. Usually, I ship before that date and I have received notices from Etsy saying I should change my processing time since I ship earlier. I haven't done that. Those dates are there for a reason not the least of which I don't want to feel rushed making something handmade.

  • @purplesnowcrafts

    So that’s what happened! I have a 3-5 day processing time on my plushies because I live in a rural area and can only go to the post office like once a week. But it’s just kinda lucked out that I tend to ship things after two days. But recently I had to ship on the fourth day because of some personal stuff and it kept saying it would arrive late and messed up the Star Seller requirements so I didn’t hit it this month.

    I received an order at 11pm at night and got up in the morning to ship it. It told me it’d arrive later than the customer expected. Did they expect me to ship it in the middle of the night? Or for mail to pick up?

    I've noticed for a while now that the etsy date range predicts delivery within the timeframe of my processing days. Even clear across the country. My small packages sent by USPS must go through the Atlanta Regional Processing Center in Palmetto, GA, which has been a nightmare since it opened the end of Feb. There are several other regional centers in the same mess, thanks to the US Postmaster General and his poor planning. I had one package take 6 WEEKS to finally get to my customer, but I had gone to my local post office after tracking showed it had not even been accepted for 10 days, the earliest they can begin a search for a missing item. That is when I learned about the turmoil at the new facility. I informed my customer, who was very understanding, and thankfully it was not an item she needed urgently. She still left me a glowing 5 star review after receiving her order. You all might want to check into the condition of the regional USPS facilities that process your outgoing mail as this was so terrible Congress is investigating and they are even appalled at the poor service.

    I have had 3 messages from customers in the past 3 days complaining about items not arriving "in time" and I now understand why, Etsy's estimates have been completely unrealistic and even though I have my own delivery information in the descriptions of items and in an image in every listing customers don't read this and just expect Etsy's estimate time to be correct.
    Also when telling customs we don't have control over the estimate Etsy provides I've been told multiple times now that they think i'm lying to cover my back and demanding refunds...
    It's such a difficult situation at the moment.

Etsy has not changed my times that I can see, and from what I can tell I have not seen any of those it may arrive late messages. • @KaraBuntinTutorials
      @KaraBuntinTutorials  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If it says that "the customer asked for priority shipping" but they didn't pay for it, that's probably Etsy's system taking the weight of the item and using that to think that it HAS to go priority. If the customer didn't pay for priority and the package isn't that heavy, you don't need to send it priority.

    Their platform used to be for handmade and independant sellers, you now need to be small company to survive and not feel like a sweat shop 24/7. I hate their AI stuff - its not perfected, doesn't think as shown in this example again, its just not logical - humans would see common sense on this issue and others. Instead they are just relying on bots to rule the platform and leaving us suffering the consequences. I'm actually scared every time I see something from etsy come into my inbox and I don't believe its right us sellers are left feeling this way. Ship by date is the latest you can ship … if you have 1-2 days processing time I guess it is true that a customer could get it on the 16th if you ship on the 15th. If your delivery times are for example 1-3 days. Or am I not understanding that?

    • @KaraBuntinTutorials
      @KaraBuntinTutorials  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Ship by date should be the latest date in your processing time, which in this situation was the 16th, so that's right. What's wrong is that the customer chose a shipping method that can take up to 5 days, and Etsy is telling them that they'll get it the same day I'm supposed to mail it at the earliest, and three days after that as the latest date. Totally inaccurate.

    Ok I’m usually all about rolling with the punches on etsy but this gift recipients messaging is very annoying, now I’m supposed to deal with 2 times as meany messages, and also deal with miscommunications between the gift sender and recipient? No other marketplace does that.
    One thing to consider with the shop closed for 4 years is a health related or family emergency situation which forces you to put shop on vacation. I had my shop on vacation for a few years as I dealt with a brain injury and would have been furious if my shop was closed. It’s not unreasonable for them to close inactive shops, but this info should be really clear in signing up for a new shop, and other places, because I can’t be the only person that has life events get in the way of a shop like care taking, injury, having kids etc. Im not sure if what you are talking about applies to vacation status or just empty shops with no listings.

A lot of my interest comes from the USA and to get it there gets more expesive by the day, If I gave free shipping it would be a fold of me after all their fees, materials etc. It also means it is impossible for me to get better views as listing exposure is also exchanged for perks such as free shipping to USA which has been the situation for a couple years now, so I automatically know that because I cannot afford to do something at the moment that I get what is becoming an increasingly raw deal.
