    That bashing on the tank trick has gotten me out of the weeds before when I had a fuel pump on its last legs. Driving around with the rear seat removed bashing the crap out of it with a hammer at the stop lights as it stalled constantly under no throttle on the way to the mechanic, good times!

      Your damn way to find out if it's a fuel pump and filter, is if one is to think, 'because of a precise time of failure, and when it runs 'intermittently', sometimes great, up until anti drug law protesters or Green Party protesters, organized crime syndicate and or NRA, KKK, BLM protesters find out what your doing', 'Using alien government satellites these people of the Roots Of All Evil are gonna shut down this high payed for car, in the most inconvenient times'; one would know it's a fuel pump or fuel filter.
      This attitude, way of thinking, overwhelmingly, is obviously tormenting the users, when a filter takes out a fuel pump, a bad fuel pump. That's for sure.
      Perhaps in the nearby future demented alien governments will zap your cars, but one will know the difference. That enemy will destroy the cars for everyone.
      Except in the case of Dr. Bloomberg and them unwanted evil people who like to hurt us on a personal side.
      Then everybody's gosh darn Gone In Sixty Seconds.

    Hi Matt,
    I have the exact same problem with my Alfa Romeo 156 2.0 Twin Spark.
    Does not start, the fuel pump makes a noise but not the usual I used to hear.
    Your video just reminded me of what's going on with my car.
    No fuel coming in, just a tiny bit of fuel, not your usual spray.
    Man, you ROCK!!!!! Your channel should be renamed the REAL MECHANIC.

    That's cool that you're respectful to your neighbors, and don't make a lot of unnecessary loud noise at night. I try to teach the same thought process to some of the younger kids I work with. How it's not fair to work past 10 p.m. when you have other people that live close by.

Since the car won’t start I can’t drive to Harbor Freight to buy a multimeter and couldn’t afford the $150 deposit to borrow a fuel pressure checker set up from O’Reillys therefore I thought I was out of luck lol. 5:30 Would have immediately removed the air intake, sprayed either some starting fluid or brake parts cleaner (carb cleaner? Either one I suppose, heard BPC is more atomized, evaporates quicker, not sure if that is true or true every time but this sticks in memory,) really good amount like spray for 5 seconds, see if it runs off of that. This of course will tell you if there is spark etc, if going int he direction of fuel.
    This is my first comment perhaps ever but, Mr. Schrodinger, I really like your channel and I presently have a Corolla in the garage I am letting a lot of MMO (Marvel Mystery Oil) soak on the pistons for a very long time, for no reason really. I knew it. My car had a po340 code and before I even replace any sensors, when I try to start it it sounded just like this. There was an actual time when it started but then shut up. So I just did what the code said and replaced the sensor and the wiring and still no start. I kept saying that Obd 2 scan tool is wrong about the P0340 being a camshaft position sensor. Because this video confirms that my fuel pump went out I don't even have to do a diagnostics check cuz I already know. Your video helped me out.

    Nice work with the test light! If you have not already and your vehicle is more than 10 years old, upgrade your AAA card for the free 100 mile tow. Diagnostics are great but you still need to get a broken down vehicle to a repair shop/mechanic.

    • @SchrodingersBox
      @SchrodingersBox  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I always do my best to try to save the customer any fees with towing etc but at the time there was no way I was getting under the vehicle in my suit lol. Towing was only option!

    • @Sandbag1300
      @Sandbag1300 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought about carrying tools. Realized that I cannot carry all the possible repair parts too. So, unless it is a battery jump start or changing a flat tire the vehicle is getting towed. The AAA upgrade to the Plus Membership for about $88 annually with the 100 mile tow will save your clients $$$. I believe you have to be a standard AAA member for 90 days first to qualify. The road side visit was good moral support though.

    I've had some people that argued with me over fuel pumps. They said if you hear it running, then it's good. You just proved my point even more. Mine went out on my F150 as well as a 4runner. Both would prime, but both were weak. Replaced and both run great. The fuel pressure on both vehicles were just below what is recommended. Still, those asshats continued to argue over it lol.

    You do good methodical. work. I wish I was your neighbor. Now I have a crank no start with my 2002 5.4L F-150. lol
    FP is around 35psi. It will occasionally fire up if I apply slight amount of throttle before turning the key. Once it starts, it runs fine.

    • @SchrodingersBox
      @SchrodingersBox  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would do a fuel trim analysis when engine is running to check for lean condition especially under load. if so, address fuel pressure.

    • @mutatedgenome
      @mutatedgenome 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SchrodingersBox Will do. How does applying 1/8-1/4 throttle, before turning the ignition, affect starting in a EFI vehicle other than letting in a little more air flow? It certainly does help, although not every time, start my truck.

    • @SchrodingersBox
      @SchrodingersBox  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are several reasons for that including the possibility it’s not a lean condition problem- maybe the throttle body is dirty so the IAC is not allowing enough air when starting. But for a lean condition it might be the slight throttle application induces a higher injector pulsewidth to allow more fuel at startup but without throttle being open too much to still lean it out.

      I saw an episode where he noticed a 12 hp Kohler engine smoking and running like the choke was half-way on, MacGyver pipes up "Hey, looks like you've got a busted piston there!" Pulls the engine apart to reveal a broken-in-half connecting rod, then uses some coins (usually made of Nickel, a different metal) held in the alligator clamp of some jumper-cables to arc-weld the aluminum halves of the connecting rod together. I was disgusted, it isn't a compliment to refer to any mechanic as "MacGuyver"

    Having an issue with no crank, no start. The lights are nice and bright and all accessories work. Then after a couple of tries cranking it starts like normal, runs and sounds normal. The battery was replaced, went to Autozone and they tested bay, starter and alternator they came back good. The car did code with a p1399 misfire. I was wondering if the starter relay, cylinder or spark plugs, fuel pump or ignition switch, to start diagnose. The oil is maintained. I did find that I needed a cylinder coil due to rough idling about a year ago. This was an Acura TL 2001. Your insight much appreciated!

    A definitive diagnosis. Maybe it's just me, but I probably would have given it a shot of starting fluid to get to run for a few second, just to make sure there wasn't any other problems. The fact that it was trying to start with a little pressure probably means it was okay. However, there have been a few occasions when I find something wrong, tell the customer a price, fix it, and I discover it an additional issue.

Backed it down the hill. Then after shutting it off, I have only been able to start it one time! For a minute or so! Now I can't get it to start! ---- put in new plugs,, wires, Throttle Position Sensor. Rotating the timing! Puzeled !!!! I do Disaster Relief, but not going anywhere until I am up and running! Also switched the relays, and did a fuel pressure test - 45 - took a minute and a half to drain off to 35 , figure that was the hook up. Unlikely. I would start with basic diagnostics data you used for the TPS- why was that changed? What data indicated it was bad? That would be a major, major clue!

Traced it to the fuse box and the ECM fuse was melted! We could barely get it out. After replacing the fuse the fuel pump engaged and I can start my truck and drive it but after a while the fuse will blow again. I've got no idea what's going on or even where to go from here.
