      Never thought about it in this way. I have basic and essential gear prepacked, mostly from the last trip not taken out of the pack but preparing for different scenarios never came to my mind. Except for the obvious gobag or bugoutbag

    Very good system! I have quite a few different MOLLE type small bags and pouches, that I mainly use for this. Some drybags too (my father used to sell them), one big for clothes and several smaller ones for charger and valuables and such.
    I have two backpacks, one Berghaus Vulcan from the army, and a medium Savotta Jääkäri. The Berghaus can fit pretty much any and every gear I have, the Savotta can take what's mostly necessary.
    I can basically pour everything from my Savotta + more into the Berghaus, and be ready to go in about a minute if necessary. I also have some 2 different setups of clothes ready the same way. At least in theory... 😂

    After trying dozens of Backpacks with "organizational" pockets etc - I switched to a similiar system. Few Molle Pouches (eg. Fire Kit, Water Kit etc) and some dry bags as well with coloring / writing,. Combine it with a great front-loader backpack 40-50l and boom: easy to pack and unpack. And of course: easy to pack for different scenarios like hiking, overnight, hunting, bushcraft training day etc

    I've got my edc bag which is also my "get home bag" which goes everywhere with me. Plus a bushcraft bag full of the stuff I take on a day in the woods or a day hike and a hiking bag which is always packed so I can grab it and head for a hike if I fancy it. Then a box with a few odds and ends that mite come in useful for shtf or bug out. But my edc bag has space for any extras if a bug out is ever needed.

    I chose to have first what I wear, second a ready steady trekking and travel bag, third special ads in drybags: frozen winter/mountaining ad bag, city or country tools ad bags, heavy rain ad bag, minuteman camo ad bag, etc.

    What do think about spraying a nylon “dry sack” with a heavier waterproofing coating? I have one heavy duty Seal Line dry bag but it’s bigger than my preferred size packs, has no shoulder straps, and is heavy(until I upgrade I’m stuck with 3 nylon “dry bags” and a few nylon stuff sacks for gear organizers). You’ve mentioned using heavy duty trash bags or drum liners as a cheap/lightweight alternative or even backup on top of having quality dry bags but that reduces how fast you can access specific gear in a clamshell or most other types of small-medium sized day or get home packs so you’ve sold me on the idea of having especially moisture sensitive gear stored in dry bags but the organization is a really big deal if your gear is limited enough that you would need to switch gear between bags depending on the situation. I keep task/expectation specific gear in different packs but my edc/get home bag has all the basics plus that may need to be swapped to one of the other bags to make them a complete setup if needed. My best example is my hunting pack, outside of backup fire starting and navigation gear everything else is hunt specific till I add my basic/every pack gear

    • @AlexWander
      @AlexWander  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I honestly never found a reliable waterproofing coating, do you have any suggestion? I would personally use drum liners just for emergencies or for building up emergency shelters or matresses ect ect but yes it can also be used as an emergency sack.Thanks for sharing your ideas and thoughts it means a lot!

    • @AdamJohnson-dr2ri
      @AdamJohnson-dr2ri 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AlexWander I have no experience with the spray on coatings, just wishful thinking I guess lol that I might be able make a lighter weight pouch waterproof-ish. I do carry a poncho that can be wrapped around a pack to be used as a floatation device in a pinch but I wouldn’t trust it for a longer swim and setting that up would take longer than I’d like in the situations that I’d consider using it. Thanks for your input, without some research and testing I’ll write the spray on stuff off my list!

    Since I'm doing airsoft, hiking and outdoors and some things are different for each or require preparation/care depending on the action, I have a packing checklist and also 1-week before/after checklists (eg. Charge batteries, prep magazines, print maps etc. Prior / clean rifle, discharge batteries, restock on stuff, reapply coating etc. After events). This way, it's a great no-brainer routine for both me and my team and the only things I ever forget are those NOT on the list 😁 also, everything has it's designated place in my storage area (+ one in my home, if I ever need to use it on regular basis) so that I don't ever have to search for it. Organisation and simplification goes a long way.

    Alex, great vid. I like the idea of compartmentalization, but I find that I want to either bring gear “just in case” or the individual gear I need is in a different bag of gear that I don’t need to bring. So I end up with duplicate items across several bags.
    Could you do a video on the break down contents of each bag? I am interested how you handle this issue.

    • @AlexWander
      @AlexWander  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks man! I can understand your point ! Since the core gear remains the same because they need to cover always the same important categories , cutting, cordage, combustion, cover , container but the type of piece of gear we choose for the specific activity/ environment is definitely different for instance we can Bring a wood stove or just a ferro rod , a lighter and and a magnifying lense if we go to the forest but in the same category we are gonna bring a gas stove if we go up to the mountains , it’s just an examples . I will
      Make a video on each specific dry sack 🤙🏻

Even so ive learned my lesson several times thru the years being caught in snowstorms and freezing temps in western Montana and central Idaho during the last week of June and also in middle of July. Hey Alex, since your bug out bag video, I have embarked into an endless research about bug out bags. I wanted to ask sth about the Companion 30. To me it has 2 cons, it does not have side pockets for water bottles and it doesn't have a side zipper that will give access to main compartment so one won't have to take all top items out the bag to access bottom items. I think that the 5.11 covrt 18 32lt covers that. I would like your opinion on these matters if it's not too much. Thnx!

    • @AlexWander
      @AlexWander  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Despite pros and cons I choose the Tat Companion 30 because it all doesn’t have any features on the outside, it’s a pack where no one will never know what
      You carry, doing so I sacrificed the commodity to have a bottle ready to drink or an external side zipper to access on my gear inside. Hope you understand. 🤙🏻

    I go bush to forget time - not bring it into my relaxation. And it never takes “hours” to pack. 😂

    I use the 15 C’s and add to it. Also, I have different 15 C’s for bug out bag, another for backpacking and camping and another for out of state.
