I just got mine a fevw days ago. It looks great in both modes, and I especially like the paint in the upper body; it's not too shiny despite being marketed as "metallic" and its shade matches some cartoon episodes nicely. The robot mode's sculpt seems like the perfect model of the 1986 movie Optimus Prime. The articulation is quite wild, as I have managed to create some pretty crazy poses. I have had TE-01 as my Optimus Prime so far, and this figure's truck mode seems like it can barely stand up to it, but in its robot mode MS-02EX is clearly superior. So it is definitely time for my Op Leader to go to storage and make room for this figure.
Great review! Thanks for the comparison overview. I was wondering what the true differences were, in hand, with the original. I will pick up a Nemesis Prime version. I'm sure they'll do the repaints, in this improved EX model.
arent the knee ratchets different? at 15:50, v1 knee ratches sounds very smooth despite the panels breaking the mold. v2 ratches sounds like somrthing could break at any second. for me the extra paint was a huge mistake, all they needed to do was fix the smoke stacks problem and painting the matrix properly.
No, the knees are the same, just a little stiffer due to paint. They did fix the smokestack issue by providing replacements and changing the packaging. Releasing a painted version isn't a mistake. It's their normal business model. They released a painted version of V1 too.
thanks for the review...question. Is the side red panel underneath the arm (above the gray strip) not-painted? in the video looks to be a different shade....not painted?
I just checked, and you're right. That panel isn't painted. I can understand why, with that being where the arm panels connect in truck mode. A tad bit disappointing though
IK I said that I might get this for my birthday this year, but I was also thinking, since I’m actually graduating from high school soon, I think it could also make a perfect graduation gift 👨🏻🎓🤘🏻
It seems like you were able to tab in the leg panel in alt mode? I can't get the tab at the end, where the last wheel is to go in. So there's always a gap on the bottom and the wheel doesn't touch the ground. Do you have any tips?
@@Memo224 Sweet. Just went ahead and ordered mine. I will likely be keeping this one in robot mode as my main G1 Prime and keep the MP-10 in truck mode as well as my hands on Prime to transform back and forth when I'm bored.
You can't go wrong with this or TE-01. I personally prefer this version. Check out some reviews of TE-01 also before making a decision. Thanks for watching!
@christopherjericho8111 I don't think so.. metal on metal with chrome? I think it would scratch or wear down too easily. Over time, it wouldn't hold up

They absolutely nailed optimus. I have the 02TC version, and love it. To me, there's no other optimus to buy.

The smokestack height difference is because you had one optimus slightly leaning down on one side.

I move the feet out of the way and squeeze from above and below at the same time. That's a tough joint but once you get it, it's solid

How easily does the paint chip on the MS-02EX? If it chips easily I may just still get the first one

They are plastic with a metal core for strength. I did the magnet test 😉
