Those are just words too. And they fall short of any truth.
I'm a mom of six, and three of my kids are around Kassandra's age. They also like a lot of the same things, and are quirky and fun. I'm literally crying after seeing her mom try to get her words out. Her brother's beautiful tribute to her had me in tears as well. I lost my older sister unexpectedly from complications from surgery. It is something that makes recovering from her death impossible. My husband and I have lost many family members, but mostly to natural causes. When someone dies due to the fault of another, it's very hard. In this case, the act is so deliberate, and the justice isn't there. They should have given him life without parole. I don't think anyone on a jury, listening to this evidence, would ever think he was innocent.
@@radioog6945 Not in WA state, they don't. Shoplifters run into stores and steal hundreds of thousands of dollars of merch and walk right out the front doors, and nobody is allowed to stop them, and the police don't respond, and even if they did, they're not allowed to pursue, and criminals just dance around fir trees.
Not sure why the police didn’t understand why he turned off his phone but kept hers on. He wanted the towers to ping her phone as he drove to the train station, impersonating her. He sat there at the bench for a few min to pretend like “she” was waiting for the train. It’s the whole reason why he parked his car in the lot near the station, so he could drive home once he’s done impersonating her movements.
I kind of thought the same, but if his theory was to throw them off by making them think she jumped on a train, why then drive her phone out to the beach & toss it, still on? I then thought, maybe he wanted to make it look like she jumped over the cliff, but she'd have driven her car there, not the train station. It's possible he's just plain stupid. A stupid narcissistic psychopath.
This one REALLY hits different. The way he threw her away like trash. Just tossed her and his unborn child down a ravine, and then got 26 years??? WTF is wrong with the legal system?? That poor girl and her family. Rest in Peace Kassandra ❤
The look in his eyes while posing in his orange suit 😱 And his face in the courtroom 😱 That creature is in rage , insane rage. He should never ever walk free under the sun again.

I'd like 10 free shots to his face. The smirky, smug, underbite chin in the air (I have an underbite, so I can tease his) makes him the most disgusting human being I've seen in a long time. It's sad that the plea bargain raises his ego, he isn't smart or clever. Pretty stupid, so why this wasn't a strong case blows my mind. If I was a jury member, that would be enough for me.
@@Regaltwo2 I commented above. You are an awesome brother. I am so sorry you and your Mom were robbed of your sister and her baby. Kassandra and her child deserved a beautiful life. 😢
I just want to slap that stupid smirk off his disgusting face at court😡 Such an evil monster. No mother should have to go experience this. My deepest condolences to the family🙏🏾🥺
Seeing her twin brother fulfilling the dream that him and his sister had by opening up that store and having a beautiful mural of her there, I just started bawling.
I opened a store in my twins honour twins are like born married. Imagine being widowed, that's the survivor twin, but worse. We wonder why we didn't die too.
Maybe they realized that in the liberal, often bleeding heart Seattle/Puget Sound area, they could not guarantee this killer being found guilty, and/or getting any sort of prison time. Maybe they figured a plea deal that guaranteed some prison time was the better option.
This is some of the strongest circumstantial evidence I’ve ever seen, they should have let it go to trial. On the other hand, I know a murderer who was let go on a technicality, and was free for decades after. But he was eventually caught for his other murders. That’s not the same as worrying about it being circumstantial though.
Watching this, the evidence was extremely powerful. I've been reading the comments, and there's not a single one so far where someone thinks maybe he didn't do it. People are tech savvy enough to realize that circumstantial or not, there's just so much data that it's obvious that he did it. And there's actual camera footage, not just cell phone data! It's infuriating. He should be behind bars until he dies.
My cousin got 25 years for being a look out in a robbery when he was 16. No one was hurt and all the money was recovered. He did 20 years & 90 days. And had a stroke holding his daughter. A year after he came home. This is insane. This dude killed the mother of his child.
Yeah, my brother in law stole a purse and a car from someone's house when he was like 19, non violent first offense and got 25 years. His brother, my boyfriend of 18 years was murdered in 2019 and the guy got a plea deal for 13 years and already just went up for parole a few weeks ago. The murderer's dad who bought him the illegal gun he used got 6 months.
Washington has a judicial system crisis at the moment. Blame a lot of it on the governor, for demanding a reduction in spending at the corrections level. As a result, they're reducing the amount of time prisoners get as well as the giving percentages off time served, then factor in parole. They created this mess.

Not every state has a messed up justice system. Do not smear the entire US justice system with what WA does. Blue states are all light on crime and you can tell by the way the criminals behave. Our business was broken in 3 times in 3 years. One of the dentists at the business condo association had video footage of criminals stealing from them with the alarm going off. The guy says to the gal, "Don't worry, we have 10 minutes till the cops get here." When the criminals speak like this you know the state/city is doing something wrong.
@@sharimeline3077 I....what? I'm not sure there are too many cases with clearer evidence, though. Caught on camera in all the right places, caught with trash bags and surgical gloves, drove around with her phone, blood found in his basement, the victim at his house the morning she went missing. That's not exactly loose evidence. If people are relying purely on a literal smoking gun to convict, then they're asking for too much.
@@Solonneysa if I was on the jury, there would be enough evidence for me. So much circumstantial evidence! The prosecutors really didn’t have to do the plea deal. So sad.

We have no clue who is watching you or I in this life. Worthiness is key to salvation, not broken bear claws or dreams of salvation in mood beams. Support your family in life, not suffering like these people. She didn't have salvation. Her choices infirmed herself and her former lovers offering for her and his family. Shouldn't be so worthless in your comments on here. Such is life. Move forward, understand she is here on your path and not on yours in another realm. Worship her and death takes over your family, life suffers forever. Such is life and nobody loves me is not going to be said of me.
I've said this same thing. I could never interview someone in this situation. I'm tearing up just watching from my phone...I'd be balling if I were in that room with the mother
What a profound example of prosecutorial incompetence and laziness. My heart goes out to Kassandras mother and brother. I also wonder how the prosecution can sleep at night.
They couldn’t make their case beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutors love to see criminals get justice. They only let criminals plea out if they can’t secure a guilty verdict. It’s 26 years or zero for an acquittal bc not enough information/evidence could be obtained. Which is it? Who ever thinks that a judgment/sentencing fits the crime? Yeah, no huh?
@@karolineleoscircumstantial evidence describes evidence that isn't direct and that requires a jury to draw a conclusion. Most evidence even video and DNA evidence is circumstantial. And we know how unreliable that is. No excuse for the DA not to go forward. Pure laziness. Those officers did a fantastic job.
37:47 Ugh! Looking at this dude’s smug face gave me sooo much rage, he did not look like he was remorseful at all. This is a gross injustice towards Kassandra’s family.
Victims boyfriend was already on the dark side. She was headed there. Her shopping addiction was not only vacuous but selfish. No one in this case is sympathetic except her Mother and her dark haired friend.
I can't even find a strong enough word to describe how disgusting this ugly monster is! I know I shouldn't think like this, but I do hope they have some traditional punishment among the inmates for those who have killed a pregnant woman.
That's almost always going to be any person's first reaction... Her first question was, "is she okay?", when they found the body. When my family came to my house and woke me up in the middle of the night to tell me my Dad was in an accident, that was my first question... "Well, is he okay?" But of course he wasn't. Knowing that, when I watch interrogations of suspects after crimes, I can almost always tell you which ones are guilty - just by their initial reaction. Any variation of, "Wait, WHAT? No! No that can't be true! What do you mean? What are you even talking about? That doesn't make sense! Well, are they okay? They must be okay!", is an immediate giveaway. ***Well that and going to sleep and resting calmly when questions are asked... 26 years for brutally murdering a mother and her baby? That's a disgrace and the main reason I hate "plea deals", They should never be an option for crimes like this. Plea deal?!?!? 26 years?!?!? I’ve seen people do a lot more time for a lot less crime, a lot less evidence, and a lot more remorse. This would have definitely gone to trial if it happened to an “affluent” family. Great job from the detectives, laziness IMO of the DA. This guy should have gotten much more time. 😢I feel for Kassandra’s family.
I love his tribute. He followed through their dream and made it all about his twin sister. He's amazing. They're amazing. What a sad loss of two beautiful lives.
It is so well done. I do hope he's not so consumed by grief and guilt (over the kind of fight we all have with family) that he can't separate himself from it to a healthy degree. Why would her friend lie about her?
Excellent detective work!! It's too bad all he got was 26yrs because the DA dropped the ball. He should've gotten way more, and she deserved better. What a sweet twin brother. ❤
I understand not wanting to be a father but you have to be a real sick individual to resort to murdering the mother of your child to get out of that situation! Also, allowing him a plea deal is a gross miscarriage of Justice. Her family deserves more than that!
I'm confused on this one. He could have took her and "accidently" trip her on some stairs like the old days or got into a car accident, etc etc......Seems to be more to the story.
I’ve watched a lot of horrible crime cases and it usually just makes me angry. This case had me in tears. I just hate hearing of pregnant women murdered by their selfish partner. Two lives are gone because THIS man’s life was most “precious” and he only gets 26 years.
I really don't understand why they thought they didn't have enough to go to trial and win with. This case had more circumstantial evidence than a lot of the cases I've seen in a while. Take the Murdaugh Trial for example. On top of that, they give him only 26yrs.....Woww, and even less with parole. This was NOT JUSTICE. My heart goes out to her family. RIP Kassanndra 🙏🙏🙏
Right, it's circumstantial but taken altogether there's not a reasonable alternative explanation for it all. There's absolutely no reasonable doubt. So disappointing and heartbreaking for the family
You never know what a jury will do. It doesn't appear that they found enough blood in the basement to prove Kassanndra died there. If the basement would have lit up with blood splatter, that most likely would have been shown in the video. Small amounts of blood loss wouldn't be conclusive. And some juror could decide there wasn't enough proof to convict him.
What an absolute tragedy for a mother who lost a daughter who was her best friend and a brother who lost a TWIN sister. The pain has got to be so unimaginable. God bless her sweet mother. She raised such a gorgeous sweet woman. And I know she would have been such an amazing grandmother too.
You are not even kidding. I had to get such a phone call for my brother and I remember telling the police offer that they were lying, then throwing my phone across the room. This was back in '07, so the battery popped out. My then boyfriend went and got it and put it back together as I sat on the floor wailing. He called the detective back and got the details needed. That day haunts me, the screaming and wailing coming from my own throat haunt me - the memory of the ripping pain as a hole got punched out of my chest and a piece of me died. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

My point is that parents should teach their sons about contraception same as the parents of a girl.
@@juliecrane9647 Parents should teach their sons about contraception? Is this a joke? Boys have one form on contraception and thats it. And even that is very susceptible to breaking. Whether a girl gets pregnant is almost entirely in her control. Not only does she have a plethora of birth control options, she can even avoid certain days to lower the risk even further. All a girl has to do is tell a boy who trusts her "Don't worry, I'm on birth control" when in reality she isn't, and that's enough to put him in a situation he doesn't want to be in. Happens all the time. And in this case it is clear as day the victim wanted to be a mother, so the possibility that she fell pregnant on purpose is very possible.
Well if he didnt want to be a father ,could also said to her ,she has loving twin Brother,Mum ,friends ,i am sure she could be wonderful single mum with support
The prosecuters should feel ashamed, not wanting this monster to pay the maximum punishment for such a heinous crime. They had way more than enough to convict this monster. Video of him leaving her car, his car where her body was disposed, blood in his basement, trash bage purchase, proof via phone records of her being at his house that morning, before he dumped her car. Come on! This is disgusting! Kassanndra and her family were cheated! He is a cold blooded killer who not only killed Kassanndra, but an unborn child.
I'm crying so much. Because I lost my mum two years ago and it hurts me so much every single day. And she died of natural causes, so I can't even begin to understand how it would feel to have someone stolen from you.
I'm her twin brother. I can tell you for me, there is no "moving forward" or "feeling better". To this day, there is not at least one time during the day I don't catch myself thinking about Kasey and then I get sad/depressed for a bit. I've come to realize that it's pain I must live with
WHY didn't the prosecutors listen to the family and not accept a plea deal?! That's so freakin wrong! Sometimes prosecutors really just don't care about victims.
Maybe they thought the perp's gf would cause some reasonable doubt, assuming a defense attorney would throw her under the bus to defend their client? Not sure why the police didn’t understand why he turned off his phone but kept hers on. He wanted the towers to ping her phone as he drove to the train station, impersonating her. He sat there at the bench for a few min to pretend like “she” was waiting for the train. It’s the whole reason why he parked his car in the lot near the station, so he could drive home once he’s done impersonating her movements.
Commenters would make better detectives.
I thought the same thing. He wanted it to look like her traveling. He just didn’t account for the cameras.
Exactly my thought. Not the first time a murderer „impersonated“ their victim by driving their phone around either.

The prosecutors in Kassandra's case failed her family. They had enough evidence to put him away. They just didn't want to go to trial. shame on them!

Kassanndra's mother is a lovely woman. Despite her daughter's horrible death I wish her all the best.
These detectives are so smart .a model for all law enforcement .Thank you for your hard work on this case.
And yet, how many cases are unsolved.
After all that investigative work they weren't brave enough to take it to court? Unbelievable.

She was at the residence during the crime based on statements about her doing her own thing in the residence. Otherwise idk.. I agree with other commenters that stated he should've gotten a longer sentence due to not only the death of Kassandra but also an unborn child.
@@LittleLouieLagazza Imo- her reservations (long pause) to respond to questions about him was a bit eyebrow raising. And I concur- if /when she became aware of his infidelity etc I'd imagine she was not too sad about him being locked up.
@@elizabethan22 Well, the gf was not only sleeping with the POS, she was sleeping with the male roommate. And she didn't "live in a separate part of the house." The male roommate did. Also, the gf was cheating on her husband w/the POS all through her marriage. Trust me, neither of them were/are concerned about "fidelity."

Gotta say kudos to the Police Dept. here. Too often, missing persons cases are ignored in the first few days. Because the poice worked quickly, they were able to recover Kassandra's phone - huge piece of evidence -- and all the video footage that would likely have been lost over time.
@@lisastork81 Hey Sicko.... your comment says a lot about the rot in your mind and soul.

My goodness, what in the world did that girl see in that sicko? Terribly sad.
This is heartbreaking.😢 I cannot imagine the pain. God bless and give strength to her family and friends.
Amen 🙏
Her poor mother and brother. My heart just aches for them. I hope they both can heal as much as they possibly can
It's too much thinking of their loss, they should be playing with a baby right now!
She was such a beautiful young lady with a lot talent and heart. That psychopath shouldn't have received only 26 years. My prayers go to her mom, her friends and family. May she rest in peace.
I don’t know about the heart part. She knew he had a gf and still sleep with him so her moral is not that high.

The Detective’s on Kassandra’s case were absolutely phenomenal!!! Sending my deepest heartfelt condolences to Kassandra’s Mother, her twin brother and to everyone that loved her. Kasandra’s fun loving and free-spirit touched our world. Again, the Detective’s were Amazing in this case. The prosecutor’s let Kassandra’s family and her loved ones down! Family should have a say on going to trial and sentencing for their loved ones.
@@nancymcmonarch Technically, he did NOT plead guilty. Without consulting the family, prosecutors accepted an Alford plea.
An Alford plea LITERALLY means, "I'm not guilty. They have a lot of things that might convince a jury that I'm guilty, so I'll plead guilty, but I am NOT guilty."
The family deserved their day in court to not only destroy the killer (and add 20 more years to his pathetic 26 year sentence), but to potentially ferret out accomplices.
THAT is why a JURY needs to hear the case.
Tossing a case like this, the way they did, is just about chalking up a win on their little scoreboard, and saving money.
@@MSmith-b33tingU That's awful. I read the law for dummies notes about an Alford deal and it really does read like a guilty-not guilty deal. That's bad.

The amount of work, time and effort that is put into solving these cases is staggering…. The process for the phones recovery alone was amazing
When you see the case, It’s quite astounding that police have the time or resources to solve much at all
True ,we are actually very fortunate they do have the time and resources. In poverty stricken countries ,they don't. even in U.S ,we sometimes have to hold law enforcement accountable, continue to push for our case to be solved.
Yeah too bad the law dropped the ball after he was arrested.

It's gratifying to see someone say they have a good relationship with their mother when so many people on here condemn their positive mother/daughter relationship. Based on the negativity expressed by so many, their total inability to conceive that parents and children (even adult children), can get along, I can't help but wonder what is going on with families, today.
