    That was Oliver Twist not David Copperfield. But re interviews: I was trying to get into a Uni to read Literature. I was asked "What do you think of Dickens?" (It was in the early 80's when Politcal activism often took the form of sit-ins .....I answered, " I have never been to one"

    My worst interview was a minimum wage job for the Indian embassy here in NYC. First off, these clowns outsource their visa approval process. Anyway long story short I got turned down for a minimum wage job because they tried to trick me into agreeing to do 2 additional jobs with it for the same pay. They also had a guy who couldn't drive but I was required to get a license for that very reason - so wtf was the other guy going to be doing with me? No one could answer.

  • @Anon123454
    @Anon123454 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Moore's Law isn't ending per se, it's just getting harder. More cores are being added onto CPUs, so programmers have to write multi-threaded applications (which is harder to do) to achieve the speed boost which used to be easily provided for free.
    Also, economic growth is most correlated with civilizational energy production/usage. If we solve the problem of cheap, clean, widely available energy, a lot of doors will unlock.

    Vale is a Brazilian company. In Brazil they speak Portuguese not French. The Natixis guy (in quite a 'Frenchy" way) giving a lesson on how to spell VALE in French (which doesn't sound as the original version in Portuguese) ... What a joke!!!)))))))))
    By the way ... "Vale" means Valley (that's the origin). The same word has also another meaning "Value"

    Hey Josh you are right ! Just cause the transistors are getting smaller doesn't mean we can't expand data centers & the web ! Nvidia made specialized hardware for specific purposes, a lot of new companies & entrepreneurs will come up with new hardware that accelerates things ! I am an engineer that does just that & I am hoping I can speed up a lot of things in the data center to avoid these doom scenarios.

  • @abitler9445
    @abitler9445 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    With moores law its about being able to fit those designs on a chip, nvidia can design super computers but if they have to take up a room than they will not be as useful. Smaller nanometers manufactuting process means exponential complexity of designs that can be used

    So this is what I am thinking of the impact of Moore's law on economic growth.
    I feel it will slow things down a bit based on what computing we can do within a given time as well as the cost to achieve the increased output.
    One example that comes to my mind that there is only so much weight you can pull based when a single horse pulls a cart. You can add another and then another to pull even larger weights. But then there is a limit to how much you can pull by using an increased number of horses based on the width of the road, curves on it, building the structure of a larger cart and so on....
    With invention of a gas engine for example you can do a lot more that what horses can pull compared to the size/weight/cost of those horses. So a new technology takes you forward.
    Now with silicon there are limits where you can get that, so unless we have a newer tech, like quantum computing, it will be hard to efficiently move processing power forward in an economic manner.
    My 2 cents on this topic...

    Moore's law is part of the reason we buy a new phone every 24 months, part of the reason we now have a mobile economy, gig economy, 5G, SaaS, ecommerce. Moore' Law has been the greatest engine of economic growth over the past 30 years. If it goes away, I think economic growth and dynamism will slow big time. But that's my opinion. Interesting to see how it all plays out, that's for sure. Keep up the great work guys. Shout out to Liftoff btw.

    nano meters. Technology directly increases the economic output of an individual or a company. Say you want to dig a hole. Dig with your hands *bad* dig with a shovel *ok* dig with an excavator *pretty good* give parameters to a robot of how you want the hole to look *best*. So technology does not necessarily equal processing speed, but all of those technologies (shovel, excavator, robots) at least indirectly benefit from it. You can’t competitively sell shovels at the scale and cost companies do now without computers.
