      Was going to add this point too. David Foster who right after this moved on to producing and writing with Chicago for the 80's incarnation (love it or hate it) Foster got Chicago on the charts again. Bill Champlin joined Chicago soon after EW&F I AM album. Jay Graydon - master writer, producer, and guitar soloist on Steely Dan "Peg". Jay wrote or co-wrote over 200 songs. Look at his Wikipedia page to see the breadth of artists he worked with.

    • @CodyWorkshops
      @CodyWorkshops ปีที่แล้ว +4

      What a writing club they developed. Even Jay Graydon's resume alone...lead guitar on Peg, co-writer here and Turn Your Love Around by George Benson...that only names a small bit of his body of work. Bill Champlin revived Chicago in many respects when he joined the band and made excellent use of David Foster's many composing talents. Thanks for mentioning them. There was so many of them that they filled the stage! Talk about packed! Plus they had amazing special effects! Phenomenal! Never disappointed, pure showmanship and mories that have lasted me my lifetime! They are still performing even though we they have different members do to deaths. If you can, you really need to see them! They are one of a kind, as you know by now! I started buying their "albums" when they first came out (I'm a 'baby boomer' I'm 72 now, still love 'em) 😘🎶🌹

    Back in the day, there used to be a radio show on at night that played all the cheesy love ballads and allowed people to call in and dedicate a song to someone. It was way more effort than modern social media, but it was also cooler as the DJ could add their own comments.
    Honestly, you should get Adam on with his voice to do something like that on a livestream just for the fun of it.

    Trivia: After The Love Is Gone was David Foster, Jay Grayson, and Bill Champlain. Jay is a session guitarist, who actually played the solo on Steely Dan’s Peg. David Foster is a 16 Grammy Awards winner, who produced Chicago’s 80’s albums and gave them a different sound compared to their 70s music. I highly recommend watch the movie Hired Gun, which will give you a lot of history of session and touring musicians (hired guns).

    Back in the 70's, most hard rockers hated almost every other genre of music (disco in particular but not exclusively). But 2 bands we always respected even then were Earth, Wind, and Fire and Tower of Power. That's how great they were. And yes, I love them all now, even disco!

    • @spryttle
      @spryttle ปีที่แล้ว

      It's pretty funny (and somewhat sad) at how divided we could be, musically, during the 70's. I was on the other side of the spectrum, deeply into Soul and not really into Rock. The bands that ALWAYS got my love and respect from "the other side" were Steely Dan and early Chicago (sprinkle in some AWB and some Boz Scaggs). Wasn't a fan of disco either, but have softened up and can even boogie a bit to SOME of them (with a big smile) in my later years. lol

    • @roadkill7314
      @roadkill7314 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@spryttle Yes, I think nostalgia plays a big part in my accepting disco now. Not a genre I'd listen to regularly but it's cool now whenever I come across it.

    One of a greatest groups - sigh - Fantasy has to be heard as well as That's The Way of the World. Best concert I ever went to in the 70's - a show with real talent and no autotune. Their concert video of Fantasy, though the sound is not good, shows the fun they and we had during the shows.

    This is not one of my favorite EWF's but it still sounds hella good. Philip Bailey's falsetto is like buttah 🧈. The way his and Maurice White's voices play off each is just too good. Joyfully good. Check out "Shining Star" by them, and one of my older favorites.. "Evil".
