I have one small problem with this theory… in the beginning of the movie Remi didn’t live anywhere close to the restaurant, he lived close to an old ladies house in the country. So how could his mom be the helper and still start a family way out there. It’s implied that Remi traveled for a long distance in the sewer. I just don’t see how that logic fits.
Actually she already explained that the colony was originally from paris, but something happened that caused the colony to leave, and since remi's mom was probably deep in love with remi's dad, they moved to the country-side, giving birth to remi and his brother.

@@aaronalkor funny you should mention that because the part where you see Gustó talking about food in the black and white TV inside the old ladies house while Remi is watching it’s almost exactly like when Miguel was watching de la Cruz talk about his dream in Disney’s Pixar Coco
I actually heard a similar theory to this a few years back, this theory seems highly plausible especially considering that the last dish he served was literal garbage which caused him to lose a star for his restaurant. BUT, I have one little problem with this theory, the timing. Gusteau supposedly had Linguini when he was in his younger years, which is around the same time when he had his own little helper. But, Remy's mother died when she was around 3 years old or so, so that means Remy could have explored Paris around 2 years or so, maybe 1. Which means Gusteau could have been gone for about about year without Remy knowing, unlike the movie making it seem like he's been gone for a long time.
I think you’ve got something with Gusteu being controlled by a rat the same as Linguini. However I don’t think it’s likely to be Remy’s mom just because of the distance involved and the timeframe. I think if Remy and Gusteu’s little helper are related at all it’s more likely to be an aunt or uncle. Like let’s say Remy’s dad was born in the city as a litter of rats and his brother or sister, like Remy, developed a taste for fine quinine which brought them into contact with Gusteu as an aspiring chef. However something happened, possibly involving a litter-mate getting trapped, which caused a falling out between the two and Remy’s dad moved out into the country where he met Remy’s mom living under the lady’s cottage.
The theory fits, but one little thing... We don't really know what kind of Hairstyle gusteau had. So the entire theory, which started from the magazine article picture on the tele, could be IMMEDIATELY debunked if it's proven that Gusteau had a tuft of black hair under his toque. As for Remy's mother, I would say she's either dead as the theory claims her to be (maybe not related to Gusteau), or is alive and just hidden away for a future installment.
I think Remy's mom was claimed by a trap, if you look at his dad's reaction at about 8:03 at seeing the traps, he almost looks regretful. Like he felt he should have been able to save her.
Considering rats live a short time, I wouldn't exactly say that it was his mother, but perhaps a sister of Remis mother, or a great aunt and her daughter. Rats have a lot of pups at once, it's never not in the possibility, and I've always felt like Remis father knew a lil something about the world of cooking, hint as to why he was so upset that remi was getting into it, he knew he could probably loose him to it and not see him again like his mother's sister, or even his sister or it even could've been his father. Dunno, would like to see a second movie possibly explaining it?
While I can buy the theory that Gusteau had a rat with the information collected, I don't think there's enough evidence to suggest it was Remy's mother. It's a given that the colony's old, embittered leader would fear and hate humans, wishing to protect his son from them. They were in danger nearly right after the movie started, and he had a plan to protect them. He's clearly been around the block a few times, and I can even buy that Remy's mother was killed by a human/trap. I think it's much more likely that Gusteau just had a rat with no direct relation to Remy, especially with how difficult it would be for her to spend all day helping in the kitchen AND raise a family/colony. As Remy's dad said, "We're rats, we don't leave our nests, we make them bigger."; that was a full time responsibility for him and any helpers he's chosen, more and more rat pups being born constantly. She'd have to help Gusteau for hours, keep up with the demanding nature of customer tastes, care for her direct family, and help care for her many, many, many colony members that she represented. It's just too unlikely and lacking in proof.

@@lxttiedxll959 The hair was from the head of a human who concealed a rodent in his hat just like his son later would. The first test picked up rat DNA that accumulated in the hair's oils. After one test, a second test picked up only a clean human hair.
I never actually thought about Remy's mum was Gusteau's (little chef) rat when I was a kid, but now that I'm watching the movie as a 20 year old woman. That explains how Remy can control Linguini by his hair like a puppet. Remy's mum did the same for Gusteau; controlling him by his hair
Something that stands out to me is that Collette said, “follow the recipe it was Gusteaus job to be unpredictable.” Then when Remy was cooking with Linguini he appeared unpredictable to everyone else.
You know what? Now that you put this out this made me think that this theory holds water. I mean I think that the big G himself, as a master chef wouldn't just give up and go into a depression just because of a star taken away. He would work hard like he has done to get back the people who loved his restaurant, the review is a minor setback. Losing a friend....that makes a hell of alot of sense.
There's one very simple answer that fixes the timeline problem for Gusteau. It wasn't Remy's mother who was the first rat Chef, but rather it was his grandmother. Think about it the only thing that would mess with Remy's dad even more than the loss of his mate would be the loss of his own mother!!! Maybe Remy's mom did like the Finer Things in life. Maybe Remy's grandmother introduced Remy's mom to Gusteau as she was getting older. Gusteau having gone through the loss of his partner rat once. He was at least comforted by the fact that his first rat had provided him with a successor. A fully domesticated pet rat can live up to 7 years. So if we assume that Remy's grandmother became the first rat chef when she was already 1 year old and she would live around the block from the restaurant with the colony with Remy's grandfather at least part-time. Like going on home on the weekend kind of thing. Assuming that Gusteau's rise to fame with the help of Remy's grandmother, let's pretend that they had a good 4 or 5 year run together and that's what established Gusteau as a famous chef. So sometime in the 4th year of their working relationship Remy's grandmother introduced Remy's mom to Gusteau. They then work together for say to 2 & 1/2. With Remy's dad and the rest of the colony moving to an abandoned warehouse closer to Gusteau's new restaurant. Since Gusteau could have easily been taking a bag of trash out of the restaurant everyday and dropping it off at the colony as payment. This leaves Gusteau free to have a relationship on the weekends and the woman just never tells him about the pregnancy and runs off to the countryside where Linguini is born. Assuming that Remy's grandmother dies of some Hazard related to the city but not necessarily directly the restaurant. The Colony doesn't immediately move away. Remy's dad eventually takes over as leader of the colony when his father dies of a broken heart after losing his mate. Sometime later when Remy is only a month or two old his mother is killed by something directly related to the restaurant either by a trap or by Skinner personally. If Skinner had a direct hand in it Gusteau couldn't have said anything without exposing the fact that the rat was there with his permission. If Gusteau got himself caught in a trap like this and basically had to watch Skinner kill his friend but didn't say anything just to save his own butt. The rat Colony would have definitely seen this as a betrayal. Assume within a couple of days of this, that's when Gusteau has to cook for Anton Ego. And between the f*****-up conscience that he caused the death of his friend and didn't have the guts to stop it from happening and the resulting terrible review, from the bad mental place he was at when cooking that meal. The guilt just overwhelms him and that's what finally killed him. Either by causing a heart attack or by Gusteau giving up on the world and taking poison. It's not like rat poison wasn't totally available to him, the shop is literally around the corner. It's also totally probable that there was some rat poison already in the restaurant just because of the Board of Health standards that we see portrayed in the movie. Then Remy's dad takes the Colony after the Betrayal and as he sees it murder of his mate, takes their infant children and the rest of the colony and gets as far away from that awful city as he can possibly go. But it also explains exactly why the emergency escape from their Countryside home is to take them back to the city where there would be plenty of food for rats in case of famine in the countryside. Because it's also the place Remy's Colony knows best because that's where they came from. I get this timeline basically from the fact that Remy's dad seems to be old but not yet sickly putting him at around 4 to 5 years old for a rat. If Remy's mother was killed when she was around 3 1/2 that would make a lot of sense for why her mate is so angry and doesn't want Remy to have anything to do with the restaurant that stole so much of his mother's time (possibly contributed to her death like getting run over by a car or something) and caused the death/murder of his mate. Also most restaurants fail within the first 5 years even here in America so for Gusteau's restaurant to be famous at all, especially in the highly competitive market of Paris. The business had to have lasted more than 5 years. That's why Gusteau's having a succession of at least 2 rats helping him cook makes way more sense. Yes this technically only accounts for 8 to 9 years of Gusteau being famous. And Linguine is obviously at lest 16 years old. But there's nothing saying that the relationship that created Linguine didn't happen long before Gusteau got famous when he was still a struggling waiter or dishwasher only dreaming of being a chef or there may be even more rats involved than I have calculated. Since Ratatouille seems to take place in 1980s or 1990s Paris. There is also the possibility that Gusteau had pet rats growing up. As the tradition of keeping fancy rats was pretty much a thing ever since the 1800's so it's not hard to believe that an introverted but ambitious food-loving kid would have a pet rat especially in the tiny apartments that constitute growing up in Paris. Rats cost very little in the way of upkeep and they can mostly be fed table scraps if you're careful about what you give them. Which would have been an advantage if Gusteau grew up poor in the city.... Totally possible that whatever lineage of rats he was keeping eventually fell in love with one of the colony rats and that lineage of food-loving rats is what produced Remy.
Off topic, but just before this video was one of those "Truth" ads, the ones that give information about the dangers of tobacco products, and now also vape products. The title for this particular one was called, "Ad Agency," or, "Depression Stick," and I swear, I SWEAR the dad from Dog with a Blog was in it.
Maybe instead of deciding to leave, she was caught giving food to her pack and kicked out just like Remi. Gusteau, like Linguini, became furious or even panicked because of the impending visit by Anton Ego. In a fit of rage he set up traps to keep the pack from coming back. After failing to impress Anton by himself Remis mother comes back to comfort him, but didn't realize that he had set traps. Gusteau finds her and realizes what he's done. The grief and guilt he faces as a result combined with the stress of having his establishment reduced to a lower tier (and all the economic consequences that will follow) and his less than ideal heath (presumed due to his weight) gave him a heart attack. Perhaps Remis father witnessed his wife succumb to the trap? All very tragic yes.
Losing a dear little friend that basically does all the cooking through controlling and turned your life over for the better, his little friend was so precious (in term of friendship) to him but passed away, got bad review from critic and got one star deducted. Thats enough to give a depression because of multiple problems tied to your life. But peoples can always gain and learn skills (learning, classes or something), thats the breaking point, Gusteau was already a famous person and if he join any cooking classes to properly gain cooking skill, peoples would start gossiping and spreading the news of him being suspicious, leading to everyone thinking he had someone helped him all this times. Unable to imagine his life going downhill, Gusteau took an easier way out. I see it all added up to this theory now... Kinda sad to think about it tho...
Gusteau was a brilliant chef for his whole life, but he made his greatest achievements with the help of a friend. When they died, he became depressed and passionless and this was the real reason his food was slipping. He didn't need his friend to be a great chef, but their friendship sustained him and fueled his culinary ambition. Without them, he became lonely and melancholy and probably started phoning it in. When his reviews were sliding and people were putting pressure on his business, those were just the added stressors that were needed to eventually bring about some medical incident like a heart attack or stroke. Sadness didn't kill him in one strike, but beat on him until he was actually quite sick and weak at the end.

I don't know about the mother being the helper however I think that the rat died before ego's review, and that caused gusteao to get a bad review and also why when skirmish (I don't know how to spell his name) told linguini to make "new food" he gave him an idea and when they were reading the recipe they were weirded out by it because it was after the rat passed and gusteao was trying to experiment without success
Especially with how scathing that guy is. He's acted like he gets off on hurting restaurants. It took his favorite being shut down to health concerns and his choices questioned to move to another sector.
To Endereye96: bro, don't you think that the colony could have moved because Remy's mother died and his father didn't want him to know that his mother died this way or have Remy die the same way.
I think it's very possible that Gusteau had a little rat helper, even if it wasn't Remy's mom. It'd be very poetic and I could see Pixar doing something like that even if it was extremely subtle.
Great video very informative. I’m more inclined to believe that Guestau’s Sous Chef, Skinner intentionally sabotaged Guestau out of arrogance. I also believe that the Sous Chef is Guestau’s nephew, and he was jealous of his uncle Guestau. It’s a possibility the Guestau promised his nephew years before his death, the Sous Chef that he be his heir to his restaurant. Then his son, Linguini was born, Guestau possibly changed his mind and decided to pass the restaurant to his son for whatever reason. This decision upset sous chef Skinner because he’s no longer able to take over his Uncle’s restaurant as promised years before. Seeing, that he won’t be taking over anytime soon, he tried to market his uncle Guestau’s likeness in frozen foods to intentionally ruin his uncles restaurant’s reputation. When Guestau heard about this, he put his foot down and put a kabash on his Nephews marking campaign of frozen foods. When that attempt failed, out of desperation, the Sous Chef intentionally sabotaged his Uncle Guestau’s dish for the food critic, Ego so he can get a bad review. His plan was successful and caused his uncles death of a broken heart.

@@lxttiedxll959 The hair was from the head of a human who concealed a rodent in his hat just like his son later would. The first test picked up rat DNA that accumulated in the hair's oils. After one test, a second test picked up only a clean human hair.
Love this theory so much
Why is this information coming out now?!
Mischief. A group of rats is called a mischief. 😁
I haven't heard this Theory yet but I'm so going to watch the video but I think it's Remy's dad
I felt like they had subtle hints of what happened to Gusteau or Remy's Mom in case they wanted to make that as the plot of a sequel.
3:39 I'm pretty sure that just the shadow of the hat casting inside.
I actually really like this theory and consider it cannon now
There's one very simple answer that fixes the timeline problem for Gusteau.
But there's nothing saying that the relationship that created
Linguine didn't happen long before Gusteau got famous when he was still a struggling waiter or dishwasher only dreaming of being a chef or there may be even more rats involved than I have calculated.
Because it was
@@dr.pepper7606 aha! I knew it! Thanks for confirming😄
I could agree with the rat theory, but I do not agree with the mom theory. Too convenient.
Agreed.
That hair found in the hat looked a little too big.
This actually makes the movie a bit disturbing to me now cuz of this really interesting theory.😳
I noticed that gusteau was being controlled by a rat or something from the beginning of the movie I’ll explain how look at the magazines and in one of them you see gusteaus hat off a little bit and then you see something around his hair which was a rat
I don't think the movie wanted to imply there are multiple rats who are great cooks
Maybe you’re thinking too much about this..
Yes totally a good Theory love it!
I'm not going to lie I thought I was going to be Remy's dad because it just weirdly makes so much sense on how he was so overprotective of Remy but you know what I'm not going to like it being Remy's mom would make a lot of sense to
At 10 seconds into your film you also missed a key showing of Remi's mother under the hat in the tv show. If you look just right and understand about how shadowing or light blocking works you can see an outline with in and just a bit of light blockage. I thought I would let you know.
I personally don't buy it. Though I do like theories in general and it is an interesting though, I just don't really believe this one.
I love Disney movie theories it adds so much more depth to the movie
Can you do Luca please because I found something very suspicious
And what would that be, if you don’t mind me asking?
Yeah what?
Linguini‘ s Father, Gusteau was an acclaimed chef and the owner of Gusteau's because Alfredo Linguini Gusteau tries to find Skinner the Linguini ex-boss and he says, “Thanks for saving me, SOMEone.”, while New Owner GuSteau tells Gusteau’s employees who is thE Leader.
Lol Gordon ramsey also had a little help 😂
I don't know about the mother being the helper however I think that the rat died before ego's review, and that caused gusteao to get a bad review and also why when skirmish (I don't know how to spell his name) told linguini to make "new food" he gave him an idea and when they were reading the recipe they were weirded out by it because it was after the rat passed and gusteao was trying to experiment without success
Just noticed the typewriter resembles a skull
Chefs have died of heartbreak or killed themselves because of the Michelin reviews. So it wouldn't be surprising if Gusteau did die of heartbreak
Especially with how scathing that guy is. He's acted like he gets off on hurting restaurants. It took his favorite being shut down to health concerns and his choices questioned to move to another sector.
I didn't know about this at all!!🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯😃
I had this idea when i was a kid this feels lime a dream come true
To Endereye96: bro, don't you think that the colony could have moved because Remy's mother died and his father didn't want him to know that his mother died this way or have Remy die the same way.
Quite possible that Remy's mother died this way and the colony was transferred out farther to protect running from what happened to his mother.
I know he says he’s a figment of Remy’s imagination, but I’m honestly more inclined to believe that that’s actually Gusteau’s ghost.
Remy is a Gusteau post life..
at the time of the movie, there was almost 2 years after Gusteau death
I know Who's Gusteau's little helper Remy's father. WAIT IT WAS REMY'S MOM CONTROLLING GUSTEAU'S I THOUGHT IT WAS HIS FATHER I WAS LIKE WHOA WHOA
Um, wasn't the rat fur DNA in Linguini's hat?
So Remi's father was 2years younger than his mother. Or 3 years cause if so theory doesn't hold up
I always thought this🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️ it fits perfectly
OMG it all makes sense
Didn't the short guy ripe out one of the sons hair?
**MIND BLOWN**
Ya know this makes sense
DANG!
o my god you're right it all adds up!
Indeed so I believe this theory to be true as the saying go’s any one can cook even a rat
Thanks for the truth....
Is it what's happening?
Just like walter when he met Mickey but diferent if you guys dont know what im talking about it watch walter movie is a origin of walt disney.
I usually don't believe theory's from people other than matpat . . . But this seems likely, odd, but likely
Or he had a heart attack because he was 900 pounds
So theres no actual proof in this entire video...
Trinston was here. ..
How would the lawyer get the dna from Gustad if it was rodent hair
what if rymys mom was the little chef in the hat from gusteas and gusteas accendantly killd the mom/remy's mom/ and that's why gusteas got derppesion and died that could also explaen why remy's dad is so mad with humans ..... (Just a theory)
I was a prequel based on this theory
It kinda makes sense
Cool theory
Like Father, Like Son.
I like it but it’s giving fan fiction
We all know it's Remy's dad
This is makes sense
Remmy's dad?
I would so watch that movie
Only problem with this theory is that Remy’s dad is hardcore gay.
Time line doesn’t make sense either
