Sale on this past Thursday up in Orland was BLOCKBUSTER!!!!! Was almost 5k head ran through the ring. Best prices I’ve seen in many years for the high end cattle.
i miss the sound of migrating geese. they use to fly up and down the east coast in massive numbers. now not so much. if you see 40 birds together its a lot
On another note. Have you ever weaned using the moon cycle? I always thought it was a bunch of nonsense, until I tried it this year. Cows only bawled for a day and then went back to grazing. Calves about the same. Easiest/smoothest weaning ever in history for us this season. Will be doing this from now on if possible. I’ve talked to a couple old timers who swear by this as well.
As always, Tyler, you take time to educate us on why you do what you do. You do a great job and caring for your livestock, and making the best choices for them at all stages of their life. It totally makes sense to me. why are you keep your young heifers Away from older calves, and I think you should continue to be true to your own decisions, and not worry about peoples input or questioning!! I know you have the camera's in the chute so people can see what working cattle is like. Seeing the cattle balk when they see the camera in the chute always interests me. They are so attuned to their surroundings. I've watched several shows with Temple Grandin, and she always emphasizes not having things in the chute that will distract the cattle and causing them to balk.
Tyler, you made that look easy. Nice job. That's the first time I've seen you work a lot of cattle. Looks like you've got a great setup thanks for sharing.
Looks like the new handle on your squeeze chute butt plate worked really well. I think that is one of the slickest calf separations I have ever seen. Well done Tyler.

Nice work...stayed calm and all the old gals seemed to know what was up on the sort. As far as weaning standards in the beef industry, it's usually 7 months which is why the breeders use the 205 day weight as weaning weight...not that it matters as you're correct in doing what is right or works for you. That looks like a very nice set of calves

You have good management practices. I believe you could manage quite a large beef cattle outfit. Don't be surprised if someone makes you an offer one day.

Love all of your videos! This is my personal opinion, I know, everyone has one... Making friends with your bull calves is not a bad thing. Handling a "tame" 2,000 pound meat monster is a whole lot safer as a one man operation. I'm not saying to cuddle them and give your kids bareback lessons on them! Lol although that is exactly what I did with my two bulls but that was a different time and situation. :-D

No need to be embarrassed about the 2 panels attachment. Bailing twine is a farmers best friend. Strong temporary fix for just about anything that needs to be held together. The calves look really good.

Dude, it may be a work in progress but it works. Being able to work these calves by yourself says something must be right about it.

Today is a great day.
We absolutely have had heifers bred at 6-7 months old right before weaning. Just last year we had 3 calve at around 16 months.
