      I've watched a few of your video's and I think there great. I'm just starting my natural lazy dreads, I've been growing my hair for about 2 n half year's and bits of my hair at the top is starting to twist up now like. So what do I do just leave it wash it once a week so not Greasy and just let the dreadlocks form?

    I had dreads for 5 years before removing them and I get compliments from professional hairdressers that my hair is very healthy. Even when I had dreads, I was very cautious in how healthy my hair was, so I guess it depends on how well one cares for their hair.
    I also removed mine via combing them out and it took a week or two.

    My dreadlocks are 9, and I'm preparing for them to be gone next fall. Still makes me a bit emotional, I've had them since 17, but I feel it'll be necessary. I never made my dreadlocks with hooks or anything, so I appreciate the realness of this video. A lot of them just talk about "unhooking" which for me isn't helpful. Your hair looks great! I hope I have a similar experience

    you are who I watched on my journey leading up to my locs! Now I am 2 years in and love them i do miss brushing my hair and i lost so much length in the draw up phase. My question to you is have you thought about re locking your hair at any point after you took brushed them out? And I have fought with if i wanted to brush mine out I had a really bad time at about a year in and it took me like a few weeks to ride out wanting to brush them out. I am glad to see you come back around to youtube I love your videos and you made me locking my hair and what to do and not to do so much easier.

    Mine are 7yrs old and during quarantine I’ve been pondering about getting rid of them. Undecided yet. When I had locks when I was younger I bleached and dyed so much and they weren’t in good condition. These ones I’ve got now I’ve kept as natural as possible and I wash them with homemade recipes so I know exactly what I’m putting in them. So tempted to chop em off and give myself a radical new do. I want to save them rather than brush them out in case of ever wanting to reattach.

    On Easter Sunday I took my dreads of 6 and a half years out. Like "An alien. Nice to meet you." (below), in years past I've received comments about how good and healthy my hair was - never straightened, never dyed, just a light shampoo with each shower and condition every other. The only maintenance that my dreads received (apart from the obvious washing) was crocheting, and my dreads were rock solid in places, thought I think this may be due to the nature of my hair, plus occasionally threading the odd one through its roots to tighten the base.
    They were cut to about three inches, soaked, worked with conditioner and then teased loose with the crochet needles over about 3-4 hours. The ends were a bit frizzy, though not too split or dead looking, but still in need of a trim. After the trim, now two weeks on, there are certain small parts of my hair that feel rough but for the most part you'd never have known I'd had dreads, especially so tight and for so long, but it was never going to be as silky smooth as it used to be! If anything I'd say my hair is comparable with most peoples. I did notice some itching of my scalp when in the shower which I'm guessing is mostly irritation due to the heat, but after shampooing and giving it a good (but not too vigourous) scrub over two, maybe three showers with my fingernails to remove any dead skin I've had no irritation whatsoever. It's worth noting here that this itching would occur before cutting my dreads off when they were having their weekly wash anyway, but having used Dr. Bronner's liquid soap for so long, and how soap naturally dries the skin, I'm not surprised by that.

    • @eatandbehoopy9937
      @eatandbehoopy9937 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that youtube channel if my hair is conditioned or soft at all, it will not hold knots. Apple cider/water solution is nice but still takes knots out a little. Salt water spray works great tho.
      (I am on my 4th round of starting dreds. I had them for 8 years once-but got head lice) now it’s been almost 1 year.

  • @truepeacenik
    @truepeacenik 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I braid my hair after nighttime showers, for tangle control. On lazy (ie, I’m not going to clients) days, I might just put my butt length under a scarf/ knit cap.
    When I take those braids out, the ends are often in need of deep conditioning. Yes, two days after a wash.
    So, it’s simple to extrapolate that to hair that wants moisture and time to relax again after removing dreads.
    (How do I know that? I had a cluster of skinny dreads that made it three years before I had to make the full head or brush out choice at the behest of my employer.)

    My dreads are very new like 3/4 weeks. A friend put the dreads in the back and i did the one on top and the side. The ones in the back seem to be locking up better than the ones on top. I'm not sure what to do about it or if i need to do anything about it.

    What shampoo did you find that works well? I only wash my hair once a week unless I am outside in the heat a lot... What are your plans for your hair now? (Let it grow longer, go shorter...etc)

    • @LazyDreads
      @LazyDreads  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I liked the liquid shampoos from Superdread and Dollylocks.
      I plan on keeping it around this length. I had my hair trimmed once straight after removing the dreads, and then once more a couple of months ago. I think around the length I'm at is where I'm comfortable - long enough to tie up, but not so long that it becomes harder to handle.

      @@LazyDreads it's a nice length on you 😊 my hair is past my bum. And tangles very easily, I don't know how you get by with only finger brushing.

    Did you lose any hair like as in receding hair from having dreads?

  • @peigirl23

    I brushed my first set of dreads out after 4 years. 60 hours over 5 weeks. I should have been using some oils as I had a ton of breakage. I gave it 3 month break, and then tried natural/neglect method 4 months. Dreaded too tight to my scalp, had some family deaths, shaved it all off! Had short hair since, but now I'm trying to grow it out again, and going to make wool dread extensions to help myself with the sensory issues with the awkward growth stages. Learned my hair dreads too tight to the scalp all on its own, and I can't deal with the pain. Temporary locs are the way for me now, I suppose. And I love the shampoos from Chagrin Valley Soap and Salve! They are amazing! Great ingredients!

    Need some advice on oils and stuff. Like I’ve almost had them for a year and haven’t liked or anything yet. Should I? I’m just thinking it may help dryness and maybe even help them be softer and fall better. Also my dreads are just down to my face, I’m brushing some out to thin them they aren’t too thick at all but just wondering how long you think it could take?

    Is it possible to interlock a dreadlock over a number of years to split the dreadlock in half instead of cutting or tearing? We got super excited and my sections are kind of big I've got about 26 dreadlocks and some of them are pretty thick but not matured enough that I feel comfortable cutting or tearing them but to mature to brush out I've tried any suggestions

    • @LazyDreads
      @LazyDreads  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Root flipping repeatedly will split the dreadlock and cause it to grow out split. However, the two halves will simply be twisted - not locked. When you come to try and actually split them you may find that the two new sections just unravel.
