- The Field of Fire was a major battle during Aegon I Targaryen's war of conquest.
The two armies met in the plains south of the Blackwater, near the present Goldroad. The allies' charge began to break the Targaryen spear lines, but Aegon and his sisters took to the air on their dragons, Balerion, Meraxes, and Vhagar. The dragons began to set the dry field aflame on all sides, especially upwind of the Gardener and Lannister armies. Lord Mooten's Targaryen forces were safely upwind, allowing them to finish off allied soldiers who emerged from the flame. King Loren rode through the flame to safety when he realized Aegon would be triumphant.
The dragons killed 4,000 men of the combined Lannister and Gardener army, another thousand men perished from sword and spears and arrows while 10,000 men suffered burns. Of the Targaryens less than 100 were lost while Visenya took an arrow to the shoulder.
The battle, the only time in Aegon's Conquest in which all three Targaryen dragons took to the battlefield at the same time, become known afterward as the Field of Fire.

Rhaenys burning the archers who struck Visenya? Balerion having his lore accurate black colored flames?? Please do more because this was incredible.
Also Vaghar being bronze and not completly green!
I love the part that Rhaenys burnt the archers who showered Vhagar with arrows, protecting her elder sister. That showed how strong their bond is. Dorne soon?

Important detail: After this battle/murder ended. Aegon had his men collect all the swords of his enemies and take them to King's Landing. And, with Balerion´s fire, the Iron Throne was created.
Its weird that this happened before maegor finishes construction of the red keep. Did they move the throne? Did tgey build the keep around fhe throne? An enduring mystery to me.

To think Balerion at the time of the Conquest was as large as Vhagar at her prime. Imagine how large Balerion must've been when Viserys claimed him

Not really a thief. Balerion's one true rider was always Aegon (who tf else could've compared after bonding with that much AURA 😂?), so everyone after him were just makeshift replacements, most likely. He was a free dragon at this point (we'll, he was ALWAYS free, technically, they all are, who tf is stopping them?), so fair game to her for going for it fearlessly.
Also, if Balerion didn't like her, you think she would've gotten within 100 yards of him without becoming Korean BBQ? He always would've shaken her off like a flea if he didn't want her with him (they got separated for a year, she got back with him after her infection). He willingly brought her home too.
Not the actions of a "stolen" dragon.
Imagine how big Drogon would be, he was on pace to be bigger than Balerion. He was only 8yrs old at the time GOT ended 😳

@@quailjailss Yes! I hope with the spin-off they would cast someone that's not the typical "buff" conqueror Aegon in their 40s, that everyone seems to want. He was still young; during the conquest, cunning, and a strategist.

King Aegon Targaryan was muscular and tall. You can be muscular even at 20 years old

As a Targaryen fan, this pleases me very much! I loved the attention to the details, such as Balerion's flames being black just like described. I also love your models of Aegon, Rhaenys and Visenya. I hope the Conquest show happens and they make Aegon look similar to this.

Actually, Daenerys burning the Lannister army in the field was a throwback to the actual field of fire battle mentioned in the books.

@@aditya-ki6eq they won’t. Rooks rest was lacking. I imagined visuals similar to the loot train battle, where we saw a shit ton of drogon scenes. We barely saw sunfyre, and we only saw 2 shots of meleys burning the army. How odd

The dragons don’t just disappear, I mean we haven’t even seen any flying around or over the castle like when Dany’s 3 resided there. It’s just not up to par with what it should be cgi wise

The one with the ladder at that time stamp is Vhagar. Though all 3 of them have a ladder, or ropes visible at some point in the animation.

Damn, this is addictive. I've watched it, replaying scenes so many times. Insane. The scale of the dragons is tremendous. Watching them burn down shit is incredible, but seeing them chill from 5:13 onwards is just as good. It's astounding. I'm binging all of your videos and already mourning I'm almost done. I just need more!!!!
Ive been checking the last few days waiting to see what amazing works of animation you would grace us with and maaaaaaaaan what amazing one this was!
As always the animation work is amazing, and the little narrations from Viserys are always fun. How taxing was it on your device to run everything given the sheer amount of npc's running aroun? Also nice take on Meraxes, sorta of a mix of Meleys and Viserion, the addition of the gold wings helps too, really makes em look like Danys trio all are the 3 ogs reborn.
Aww thank you so much! At first I was a bit concerned how to make the army, having so many soldiers would be so heavy for the performance, so I thought to make 2D soldiers for the background and place them on the ground like grass, but for the close up ones they are very low poly models, I still had to have a limited amount of them because the dragons were causing a little lag when there is fire and smoke emitting from all three of them I had to optimize it as much as possible.
Ah I see, yeah that would definitely help improve the performance a bit . Looking forward to what comes next.
And got to say your stuff has given me confidence to keep working on my final film project for Uni, which is ironically also Thrones themed.

So we all agree the smallest and youngest of the 3 OG Targaryen Dragons of the Conquest is Vhagar and Not Meraxes i still heard & read of some commentators & reactor mistakingly mentioning Vhagar is 2nd oldest & largest of the 3 OG Targaryen Dragons of the Conquest when in the Books its specifically mentioned when Meraxes is Hatched in Dragonstones 14 years after the Doom or 88 Years Before Conquest Era and Vhagar is specifically mentioned Hatched year 52 Before Conquest era if you look at the age of Meraxes it will be 88 yrs old & Vhagar is 52 yrs old when Conquest Started when we added 130 yrs to 52 yrs of Vhagar it will be 182 yrs the exact age Vhagar Died .
The confusion is bc meraxes died and vhagar kept on living so she outgrew meraxes eventually, growing almost to the size the black dread was.
But yes, during the conquest, vhagar was youngest and balerion the oldest.

Balerions flames were so hot it melted stone, so knowing that, just being on that battlefield fighting, with those flames roaring in the near distance, would have been insufferably hot.

Was Balerion really that much larger than Meraxes? I knew Vhagar was the smallest of the three but I didn’t realise still how small Meraxes was compared to big brother

You know, all things considered Aegon and his sisterwives were pretty tame in this fight.
3 weapons of mass destruction in combat and only 4000 were burned to death? They definetly held back on purpose, knowing all they need is a demonstration, not extermination.
That was just the soldiers that died many many more went home disfigured and burned also they were quite skilled at dropping targets on the field im sure but even then “when Dragons flew to war everything burned”

I love how most of the focus is based on the first person sight of a soldier on the field, with the dragons swooping in and out of view while they flame the battlefield and fence the enemy in. Such an epic video of Targaryen fire and blood... good times.
im 3 months late but I gotta say his is INCREDIBLE, makes me wish we had an adaptation of the conquest fully aimated with a blend of 3d and 2d. it’s also amazing how you add personality to the models, like Rhaenys defending Visenya after being struck with an arrow, lovely touch. Can’t wait to see more !

I love Balerion's black flames, they look so menacing. A shame the HOTD show didn't seem to have adapted the unique breath colors of each dragon.
Also young Vhagar looks so smooth. I always wondered if she looked so "bald" due to age or if she'd always been that way.
On thing I wish they would do with the really big dragons is when they burn someone make it a little more horrifying afterwards. Like dragon fire burns so hot so quickly that the body of the person burnt almost instantly turns into charcoal leaving behind for a few moments a charcoal statue of the person before a light breeze or a falling over extended limb cuz the whole thing to fall to ash. And in rare cases with ancient dragons like Belarion and Vhagar their fire burns so hot the instantly turn the charcoal body into diamond with a bloody red hue.
It would be great if it was available to everyone on the same day as season 2. It would sell well.

This is really cool. I know the graphics may be not up to par with the effects in HOTD, but the actual imagery is really powerful here and i enjoyed it more than a lot of special effects nowadays

A couple things, I love that Aegon’s face design kind of resembles Daenerys here a little bit. Another thing, with the announcement of Aegon’s Conquest coming to the HBO screen, we will actually be able to see this battle some day. Lastly, I really wish Dany would have brought all three dragons with her to face Lannister and Tarly in the field. It would have made the call back from that episode to this battle so much better. Stupid D&D

Agreed, love the way vhagar and meraxes look, size wise and colors. Vhagars colors are a little brighter/less dull which is so realistic considering how old she is in the show.
