    I'm sure that the steel version will be heavier, especially at the shower head end. If it end up being too heavy and causing imbalance and losing seal around the tube, possibly a simple cross shape will help to increase basket coverage while decreasing mass and weight of a conventional round head. Flow can probably be evened out with variable hole sizing to promote water distribution to other areas.

    I noticed right away seeing video of the OEM sprayhead in operation that it was obviously not an optimal design, being too narrow and not centered over filter. I don't understand how they can have such a high quality machine in every other respect but overlook this obvious design flaw, and by reports, actual functional deficit.

    • @alpsskiman
      @alpsskiman ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know if it's true or not, but I've read Technivorm has resisted redesigning the showerhead out of fear they may lose their SCA and ECBC certifications.

    • @fredbloggs6080
      @fredbloggs6080 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alpsskiman They did redesign it slightly a few years ago, adding a couple more holes and putting mounds around the opening of the holes, but it doesn't address the main problem. Customer service seems to be in denial about the need for improvement. I have been using the CoffeePilot spray head that sits on top of the coffee filter basket. I have the Select version, and brewing 6 tablespoons of beans with the water level on the machine set to half a carafe, which slows the brewing down, with the spray head in place, I keep the carafe out for 40 seconds to allow the water to build up in the grinds and the basket, and then put the carafe back in place to allowed it to drain normally. With the correct grind, this works quite well for me.

    • @alpsskiman
      @alpsskiman ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fredbloggs6080 You are correct. I did buy the latest version of this showerhead for my Moccamaster. It's a slight improvement over the previous version. I was referring to a complete redesign of the showerhead that more thoroughly saturates the grounds.

    • @fredbloggs6080
      @fredbloggs6080 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alpsskiman I know what you mean. I don't know why if they went to the trouble of retooling for that new shower head why they didn't do a full redesign, unless they were afraid it would negatively affect some parameters, but they could always offer it as an option. I think the CoffePilot shower head insert I mentioned works brilliantly to achieve the same effect.
      I don't know what the status of the spray arm and shower head in this video is because there have been no responses or updates about it being produced in its final form.

    It was surprising to make my first pot of coffee in the new moccamaster and realize how poorly water was dispersed from the brew arm. I had just ordered a replacement arm to tinker with when it occurred to me I couldn't be the only one with the same concern and landed here. While I think there are a couple of simple tweaks to be made (1. Longer arm than shown for sure. It's one of the short comings of the OEM. 2. The screw off spray/dispersion face mentioned would allow optional patterns / hole size and easy cleaning.) I just ordered a prototype to support the cause. A quick update....No word on the prototype shipping yet, but the OEM replacement arm arrived. I used an ice pick to tweak the alignment of the spray holes and was able to improve the dispersion a bit, particularly in shooting further across the basket, less so laterally, which makes sense given the direction of flow. I'm sure the replacement arm will be an improvement over this, but it's simple tweak I would recommend to anyone for marginal gains. Cheers.

    Can you share with us whether or not the container that holds the water, can it be turned 180 degrees? In other words, to make it where the fill lines are on the opposite side they are on now. Reason is, we wish that the switches were on the other side too. It would work much better for us. They don't make that, but maybe we could flip the container around. i Also, it seems that we could cut a lot of the power cord off easily enough, by opening the bottom of the machine. Please clarify: MM brews to 205 degrees F, but you say the plastic brew arm can withstand up to 150 degrees F? Is that correct? I ordered anyway, but just curious as to whether I'm living on the edge.

      Up to 150 degrees C. Which is 300F. Way hotter than any brew or dishwasher.

    This video is a bit disapointing. Very little viewing of the water hitting the grinds throught the process. Was the water coming out of all the holes or just the ones closest to the neck of the disperser? There is not a lot of water coming out of each pulse cycle so I am not sure if there is enough to cover all 17 holes. Using paper filters instead of a gold one decreases the water flow allowing for a bit more soaking time for the grinds. I just bought a Mocamaster and when brewing a full pot with the flow switch set correctly, all the grounds get soaked no issue. I did not see a comment on if this plastic shower head is BPA free.

      You may want to take a look at Coffee Pilots Shower Head for the One Cup. It fits over the brew basket and does not require removing the arm. I am more comfortable with that design as it won’t add increased weight to the arm since it is completely supported by the brew basket. I’m not trying to rain on anyone’s parade. I just feel more comfortable with a design that doesn’t alter my MM.

    WOW! I am about to send my Moccamaster back for the very reason the brew arm does not fully "shower" the grounds - a huge flaw that my Cuisinart with its "showerhead" brew head (integrated in the lid) wets the grounds completely - making a great cup of coffee compared to the terribly weak (IMO) result from the M'master. You guys have come up with THE solution - and adding about 1/2" to the new stainless version will put the shower head smack dab in the middle of the brew basket. HOWEVER, a concern might be that the longer and heavier stainless arm (the printed plastic one is probably lighter than the stock arm) will SAG, so it may need a tab on the bottom that will allow it to rest on the edge of the water container to prevent sagging. THOUGHTS? Thanks for the great idea! - LongJnSilver in "Historic Hendersonville" NC

      I really don't think even the lid provided does much or helps much to improve the brewing. Now, if he could incorporate an infrared array along with the spray holes that might be helpful.
