    The later digital-only Digital8 camcorders will let you record in LP mode on a standard Video8 tape. They eliminated the Video8/Hi8 detection switch since it was only necessary for analog playback.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      By the time the non analog playback cameras came out it was determined that regular 8mm tape was good enough to allow LP recording but hi8 tape was recommended. Even with hi8 tape LP recording always had a warning that playback may only be possible on the same machine that made the recording. In other words, the speed is there, use it at your own risk and if the recording will not play back, too bad so sad.
      I have actually said that to customers. They brought me digital 8 or mini DV tapes to transfer all recorded in the lp speed because they were too cheap to spend a little more for some tape and they don't play properly pixelation macro blocking you name it on all of my decks. Customer mad complains how come transfer looks like crap? I haul out the Sony owner's manuals for the cameras I have and point out right on the first page that the lp speed is not recommended and that playback may only be possible on the original equipment that made the recording. Now their camera is broken and cannot be repaired and they've got 100 tapes that won't play properly on any other camera or player. My response too bad so sad sucks to be you should have read the manual and heated the warning.

    I have a similar camcorder with the same problem. Nikon VN-760 was a re-branded Sony CCDTR700. The corrosion is apparently just from decades of exposure to humidity. I tried to replicate this fix, but I couldn't get the innards to slide out, so I couldn't properly clean the connectors. But just the jostling of disassembly must have somehow fixed the problem, as now it seems to work OK.

    My Sony TRV110 still working perfect too. Only had to clean the AC power socket with contact cleaner as it has been in its case for a while. The hand grip is still perfect too. Interesting mine has not had the ribbon able get cut though? I bought mine in July 2000. Its the PAL version but plays NTSC too.

    Hey there, I have a question for my grandma's cam corder, I believe it to be the same one as this one. I didn't know if you still use this channel or not. It's a Sony model CCD-TR23 VIDEO 8 Handycam 1995. The cassette area opens and closes, plugs in. All buttons work however, when cassette is in place, says all 0's on top, won't rewind, play, or ffwd. The cassette does move on the side when rewinding but then suddenly stops, and shows a house like looking symbol. Is this similar to what's wrong here in the video? Help! Haha. Ps. Just seen you are still active on here. Hopefully you see this! Thanks

    I've got this exact model and it won't load tapes. Without a tape in it will close and lower the mech but ejecting again it gets stuck near the top. You can see a small white gear in the bottom right spinning and the larger gear above it vibrating. I'm guessing some teeth have stripped? This is my 5th camera, I just want to watch some tapes :(

    What are your thoughts on putting a little dielectric grease on those connections after cleaning? I find it helps both in home electronics and automotive connections repairs I've performed. @@12voltvids Totally makes sense. How about a small drop of Nu-trol just to clean and maybe keep the area from corrosion from moisture? Sony advised nothing be put on the ribbon connectors as it could damage the adhesive that holds the copper onto the substrate. This may not be an issue initially but if pulled apart years later and find all the traces are seperation at the edge. That's a problem. These problems were addressed in service bulletins.

    I have the ccd-fx430 and it worked fine with rare usage over the years until my dad decided to charge the battery in a improper manner during the holidays (because we couldn’t find the adapter) it started up fine and played until the battery died, next day I tried to start it and the viewfinder flashes for a second and then the camera starts beeping until you turn it off. Do you have any idea what happened? I’m assuming it’s fried and I’d like to take the tape out if it’s broken, but if there is a way to fix it i'd love to know, Thanks.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Does the system load and unload without a tape in place? In other words when you push the eject button does it open and then when you close because that housing it winds back down? If it does then it's a detection circuit that's not working properly. When you go to cassette and there's actual tape in place the first thing the camera does is try to move the capstone motor and take up and supply spools to make sure that they move slightly it also turns on the drum motor to spin up the drum. if the drum doesn't spin up to the correct speed or is not detected that it's spitting up it will go into an emergency shutdown and kick the tape out. If the drum spins up and it sounds like a spinning way too fast then it's likely a connection problem between the drum and the main board that's causing a problem. The reason it does all this before loading the cassette is in case there's a problem such as a jammed capstan motor. If the tape were to lace up and the capstone motor isn't able to turn when you hit the eject button it'll eat the tape because the caps and motor is used to retract the tape back into the cassette so it does a series of self tests every time you put a tape in. Of course when you close the cassette housing with no tape in it the machine knows that there's no tape so it doesn't do the self test it just closes

      @12voltvids  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Some can be fixed and others beyond economical repair. If it's a ccd v or ccd f series throw it away. Same with the CCD tr series. They are loaded with capacitors at leak corrosive electrolyte which attacks the copper on the circuit boards soaking into multi-layer boards and destroying internal conductors. That makes the board unrepairable nine times out of 10. Many are repairable but more or not it all depends on the model and how far the damage has gotten. I'm like some services out there that will take your money and do full cap jobs regardless on how bad everything else is I walk away from those ones because I know from experience that even 30 years ago replacing the leaking caps with all new caps resulted in camcorders failing and gain after a few months and then people being pissed off. My normal recommendation to people that have tapes that they need to digitize unless they have hundreds of tapes is to just take them out and have them professionally done it will be less money than spending a whole bunch of money on an old camera that may not last long enough for you to finish your project. Generally on video cameras if they we're made before about 1998 they're probably not going to be repairable because they're going to have bad caps in them. if it's prior to 1998 then I would say you're probably not worth fixing but again it depends on what damage has been caused one thing for sure if you've got an old camera that's been sitting around for 20 or 25 years and has not been used don't plug it in. It's that first initial plugin when the electrical capacitors try to reform after sitting Dead for God knows how many years the pressure starts to build and if the seals have failed which they most likely will all the corrosive electrolyte gets blown out onto the circuit board and starts to do real damage.
