Cher was being inducted into The Kennedy Center Honors. The Honors recipients are recognized for their lifetime contributions to American culture through the performing arts-whether in music, dance, theater, opera, motion pictures, or television. They induct 5 each year. He was asked to honor her by signing this song. Adam came in 2nd place on American Idol. Been with Queen since 2011 as well as a solo career. Can't believe he's 42 years old.
I love this performance not only because it was so beautiful, but it sat a lot of people back down that criticized his singing without actually listening to any of his work. For me, what really sets Adam Lambert apart from other singers are his transitions. He has such amazing control.
I love how every face in the audience that the camera turns to is completely mesmerized or wrapped up in this performance. Lambert has a angel voice, huge range, beautiful falsetto with seamless transition between registers. Excellent interpretation and stage presence. Bravo, Adam!!!
There's nothing like being at an Adam Lambert show. He doesn't play in large arenas usually on his solo tours. His voice is so powerful it vibrates thru you. You hear a lot of wows during his shows. Seeing him with Queen is incredible too! He sings the songs in the key they were written in and the shows are incredible! I was so happy to finally go to a couple last year!
Adam Lambert's rendition of "Believe" is so amazingly beautiful. This performance was part of a tribute to Cher....hence the crowd full of musical celebrities.
So, Cher, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Reba McIntyre were all being honored that night. They showed each of them in the audience as you saw, along with other Hamilton “family”. An amazing group of artists in one room.
Thanks for your reaction to this performance. I absolutely love this version of the song and it was very touching to see Cher tear up. Plus she jumped out of her seat before anyone else to give Adam the standing ovation that he so rightly deserved. Please take care
Adam had the exact same reaction to the audience you did, haha! He said when he glanced at the crowd he kept recognizing people he was a fan of, he was actually a bit nervous and jetlagged apparently but he absolutely killed it!
I love listening to a vocalist and performer react to Adam. They truly understand what it takes to sing beautifully and with such exquisite technique. Your reaction is music to my ears. Thank you for checking him out. I look forward to more!!
Pure genius on so many levels...his stripped back and vulnerable interpretation whilst honouring Cher is truly a masterpiece, breath-taking..the way he is able to pull back and have such tender and empathetic tenderness and connection to the essence of the song...fabulous!
During a recent interview, highlighting the 25th anniversary of Believe, Cher looked back on that performance of Adam Lambert's cover of "Believe" and what it meant ot her. Cher told The Guardian, "That's one of he greatest vocal performances of any song by anybody." Don't be surprised to see musical theatre casts in the audience, one of Adam's best friends is in the cast of Hamilton and Adam himself, was the understudy for Fiyero for approximately 2 years in LA before he auditioned for AI. He was in the Children's Metropolitan Theatre company, from about the time he was 8 so musical theatre has been part of his life for almost forever.
How sad for your generation that you have to be excited by a performer NOT faking it. I saw Queen five times between 1977 and 1982, and when you're in the room with greatness, you know it. I'm delighted to see a fellow headbanger who can appreciate talent in ALL its forms. I'll be 60 this year, young man, so, you've got a lot to look forward to. I look forward to more of your work. Subbed.
It's a risk o take such an iconic song and then just totally change the vibe, but when I heard this the first time I felt like I finally understood the soul of the song: "I have enough self-respect now to see I deserve better than a life with you. I am strong and I am going forward to a better life." When you're out with your friends getting over that loser, the Cher version would be preferred; but at home you can belt this one out to remind yourself it's gonna be okay,.
Im English and I loove adam lambert. Hes such a good singer ❤❤❤❤ one of the best 🤩 please react to more adam lambert. Thers so many amazing songs by him 😊
He’s the current front man for Queen and I’d love to see you react to their performance of Who Wants to Live Forever from their show on the Isle of White! It’s several years old but it’s so good! Made especially powerful because it was the day after the Pulse Massacre here in the US and they dedicated it to the victims… super moving!
less than 24 hours prior to this he was performing in the UK on Strictly Come Dancing, jetted to Wash DC and did this! There is a reason Brian and Roger chose HIM to be their frontman, you haven't heard anything yet, Sleepwalker is a classic, written by Ryan Tedder of One Republic and says Adam's version the THE version... the live GlamNation tour rendition in Indianapolis is epic
Another one if the word's great artists. Is it any wonder that Queen chose him to tour with them and to sing Freddie's songs? Thanks for sharing and commenting.
I didn't see any one else comment that this was for the Kennedy Center Honors where Cher (and Reba McIntire, too) were honored. I saw this on TV. I love Adam's voice and his take on this song!!
Oh man you should check out his live performance of "Who Wants to Live Forever" with Queen at Isle of Wight Festival. That's legendary it gives me goosebumps every time I'm sure you'll be like it 🥺💖
@John Reaves Live Adam is a great singer. In 2009 he lost American Idol to Kris Allen. He performed this at the 2018 Kennedy Center Honors. Also, at this event, Kelly Clarkson sang Fancy to Reba McEntire. Check it out...great stuff. Lastly, he was on Jimmy Fallon recently singing 'Do You Know The Muffin Man' in Cher's voice. It was great.
Thanks John, great review! Haha! Adam made Cher cry with his beautiful rearrangement and performance, and Cher made you cry with her emotional response. Loving watching you discover how awesome Adam is ❤
Adam Lambert is a phenomenal, and one of my favorite, vocalists of all time. He's been singing lead for Queen for the past 10 years. I saw them in Nashville a few months ago. Soooo Good!!! Perfection live!!
One of the absolute best vocal performances ever. If you don't watch the Kennedy Center Honors every year, you are missing out. Now go watch Heart's tribute to Led Zeppelin.
Been an Adam fan since I voted for him on AI. Love him with Queen and also his solo act. I realized that you’re not familiar with the yearly Kennedy Honors awards. There all incredible but this one really stands out. Another one that will blow your mind is when a few years back Led Zeppelin was honored and Ann Wilson and Heart performed Stairway to Heaven. Robert Plant was in tears!
Adam’s talent is incredible! If you haven’t seen it, I recommend watching Heart perform Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center’s celebration of Led Zeppelin.
First saw Adam on American Idol. He came second. Can’t remember who won. Check out Adam’s version of Tracks of my Tears. Smokey Robinson was the coach ❤️
When Adam was on American Idol, Michael Orland was associate music director and he was the musical director for the Kennedy Center Honors during this performance. Adam did this song in this tempo during the the audition process for American Idol. So they are familiar with each other.
I've been following Adam since he appeared on American Idol in 2009 and I adore this man's voice. He could sing anything and I would listen. That being said, my all time favorite singer was Freddie Mercury and I was thrilled when Adam joined with Queen, he's now been singing with them for over 10 years. One of the best performances with this collaboration, in my opinion, is "Who Wants To Live Forever" at the Isle of Wight festival in 2016, shortly after the massacre in the Florida nightclub. th-cam.com/video/9C6DPHosZZg/w-d-xo.html
Check out his cover of “I Can’t Stand the Rain”, that he sang on American Idol as a guest singer. Freakin awesome too. It’s on his album of covers along with the Believe that he sang at Cher’s Kennedy Center Honors.
I feel like I've never actually heard this song before (although of course I have). The way he strips it back to its emotional foundations and then adds just the barest smattering of vocal decoration is the epitome of restraint. Superb.
@@teresalume7887 I thought so too. Until I heard Adam sing with them. It's like the guys in Queen have won the lottery twice in regards to their lead singers.
Adam has breathed life back into Queen since the passing of Freddie delivering their songs respectfully and not imitating Freddie but honouring him and this great band. Both Roger and Brian have said Adam is a gift , his voice is just out of this world …. singing for Queen or his own music he is adored by many and a lovely soul too ❤ 🇬🇧

Hey hey hey - he's 41. Adam's a tad sensitive about his age. To me, he is the single best vocalist of our time. You should hear him sing opera! ILHSM
Yes indeed, he made her cry, he is 👏 amazing❤❤

Cher was being honored. Adam and Cyndi Lauper performed "I Got You Babe" as well. It was a great segment for Cher.

Yes! And his is the only voice that’s ever impacted me like that.
I'd LOVE to see Adam live. He is by far the best singer I've ever heard and I'm OLD!
Me too!
Adam is one of the best vocalists out there today! He’s phenomenal
Adam Lambert is the best male vocalist I’ve ever heard. His emotional delivery is unsurpassed.
Adam Lambert is the best vocalist in the world
If Freddie Mercury's microphone was enchanted like Mjolnier, Adam would be worthy to lift it.
AGREED!
I absolutely agree with you ❤
She gave him her permission to record his own version
Adam Lambert's rendition of "Believe" is so amazingly beautiful. This performance was part of a tribute to Cher....hence the crowd full of musical celebrities.

Performance of a lifetime. And then... he hits the extra note. I believe.
