Ive driven trucks with that "breaking assist" bs. I was driving down the road with cruise control on going 70 mph fully loaded with steel i-beams. Im a flatbedder. As im driving, i go underneath an overpass and bam! That pos system kicks in and jammed my brakes on so hard, i was rear ended by another trucker, coffee went flying along with all my belongings in on the bunk and spilled my food i was making in a crockpot. They said the proof of me being wreckless was on the montering system that detected a hard brake situation, even though i never touched the brake. Luckily, im one of the few that when tieing down i-beams, i cross chain the front, which i believed saved my life. After that, no one would hire me. I had to take a 1099 job, save up money and go buy my own truck just to keep driving. I now have freedom and will NEVER work for some bs company ever again.
I think in Australia there are now laws that require a headboard for that kind of load; not in America I guess. And seriously, why do they spell BRAKE as BREAK all the time? Is it ignorance or apathy?
O agree with you clutch! I drive a 2021 cascadia, I hate adaptive cruise control! However the emergency braking feature, saved me once! When a highway maintenance truck cut me off. Just try to anticipate what the truck will do. Be safe clutch! Love your videos
I have the same problems with the braking assist in the Freightliner I'm driving now. The stupid thing will occasionally see the shadow of the overpass and think it's an obstacle in the road, slamming on brakes. You never can be prepared because you never know when...it's just so sudden. Class action comes to mind!
@@kurtfoulke5130 note that he said the head gasket was just the first thing, as it really needed an inframe, which would have put him out of work for extended time but also he could get a decent loan on this new truck which he couldn’t have done on a repair job.
Freightliner use to build a dam good truck called the FLD. After they cancelled it, and started with cascadia and basically everything else isn't worth the money or the time to operate
I can relate traded my 2016 t660 kw in April for a 22 t800 truck sat unsold for a yr. At 6 month in had to get dpf replaced. Always something. Wish u and your family a merry Christmas.
The lurching of the truck. The next time you're in the freightliner shop see if they can activate the creep mode. You will be able to back into anywhere smoothly.
Is there not a distance setting for the Adaptive Cruise Control? I have only ever used it on a car, but Lexus had a button with 3 bars on it to represent how close to the car in front, short bar for city and the long bar for highway. In a car it great, just set the speed about 5 higher than you want to go, then it keeps up with the car in front, when they slow a little, it maintains the distance, sort of like an invisible tow line, speeds up, still maintains distance, easy peasy.
People not maintaining a steady speed is so frustrating. I have the old style cruise control I can't even use it most of the time. Have a most wonderful day
One of the main reasons some of us, myself included, often do not keep a steady speed is that we leave more distance between ourselves and the vehicles in front of us, than most drivers do. When vehicles get in front of us, we take our feet off the throttle to reestablish a safe distance. Also, some of us take curves slower and blind hills. If you and most other drivers weren't following us too closely to begin with, this wouldn't be a problem for you.
The cruise control is a plus and minus 5 type thing. You own the truck and you can have that disabled. You can also have any of those features disabled. They are really there for fleets with fleet drivers.
Company I used to work at had a few trucks with that “safety” crap. They were Kenworths and Macks, but he was able to have them disabled. Not just unplugging them, but actually removing the feature from operating and it didn’t cause any lights on the dash or anything. I’d dig a little into seeing about other ways.
Clutch, i share your sentiments about the unsafe features of the truck. Here are some things I have learned about these trucks that may help. Backing, enable creep mode and disable hill start assist (hsa) Acc in the settings on the dash, you can lower the following distance time. It can probably be set through the ECU to always be a lower time. For the auto braking, my company told me they turned down the sensitivity of the sensor and it rarely activates for me. And don't use cruise control on ice.
My first truck was a 2016. My last truck is and will be a 2000 379 with a pre emission cat. When that becomes illegal, im done with this garbage industry
I drive 2016 Cascadia with 1,002,000 miles on. Great engine, lousy after treatment system, but not a single suicide safety system. I am so glad I don't have any of these issues. My heart bleeds for you.
I am glad you got your new glasses. I need to go in to get an eye exam and new glasses as it has been a long time since I had that done. I still see out of these fine but will not get bi-focals again since they do not seem to help me see better.
Have you tried the progressive lenses yet? I have bifocals and they have to be adjusted properly before you'll like them. Friends that got the progressive lenses said it took them a couple of weeks to adjust to them. It's the only lenses they will use now after learning how to use them.
Cutie pie rusty I hope you have a wonderful Christmas rusty and clutch I don't blame you how you feel about them freightliner cascadia and I agree with about the automatics my husband drove a peterbulit and it was a automatic everytime he would pull into a place and try to go a decent speed that thang would buck the clutch burn up in it going across the George Washington bridge he was heavy and had to Two pedal it across there to keep it from Rollin back I wouldn't have one if I'm gone drive one I want to be in charge of everything!!!! Ya'll stay safe and happy holidays 😊
I remember the first time I drove one of the wiz-bangy Cascadia's. The first time the truck slammed on the brakes I broke out in a sweat, mostly because it was totally unexpected. It took a few weeks to get used to the systems of brake assist, ACC and lane control noise, and like most everything in trucking, I adapted and learned how to drive the thing(s). Never thought of disabling anything because I was a company driver. And besides, not sure how your insurance company looks at disabling...? But seriously, Clutch, those crazy gizmos stopped bothering me after a month or two. Good luck and stay ahead of your truck
I have the adaptive cruise control on my Corolla. I can adjust it or turn it off completely. Can you turn it off? And can't you cover up the auto braking sensor like the other guy did on his channel? How many miles do you drive on an average year?
I’m a retired trucker. Years ago the industry and the “ government” decided that the braking system for large trucks was the 121 braking system. What a FARCE that was. You either had brakes or you didn’t. Sometimes if keyed up on the CB, the brakes would lock up or no brakes. I ran the Rockies, Colorado mostly. Hell who needed a seatbelt with these brakes, pucker power was the best! Learned to cut the wires on the wagon, via truck mechanic. I use to test trucks for a major brand. 1 of the trucks had that same system problem. Not fun with a skateboard doing 75 or more. Same scenario as what you all are saying. The only way this system will change is an incident, where you or the traveling public lose their lives, because of this “safety equipment!”
I drove a cascadia and I was in a curve and I guess it sensed the guardrail and thought I was going to hit it. It slammed on the brakes while I was in the curve. Thought I was going to have to change my underwear.
People here in the California Sierras buy a LOT of NON clumping kitty litter because they keep a couple bags in the car in case, they need traction when stuck in snow or even on ice.🙂 The Feds are investigating Freightliner trucks automatically braking system, where the trucks automatically brake without an obstacle in the road.
You can adjust the distance on Adapting Cruise Control. When someone is going the same speed as you are the and they are to close, like they just passed you and now in front of you. All the systems does is back off on the power and lets your truck slow down to get more distance between you both. If the car is going slower then you, it will turn on engine brake and slow you down. If your truck has the camera in windshield also. It uses both and can stop the truck for stopped traffic. If the traffic starts moving the truck will release the brakes and start moving also.
I agree Clutch, had these trucks in KW for several yrs now. Hate that brake assist especially bad, theres a bridge just before the truck stops in Laredo, that bs thing activates everytime, i slow down just before it n get ready for the bs thing....at the very least they could have put in a temp sensor that deactivates that bs system in any freeze temps, better yet dont put the bs system in trucks.. surprised they havent been sued for it....Merry Christmas to you n your family Clutch....on another note i run reefer now and with a new company after 14 yrs at the other one....many of my driver buddys came over here to, much better, my miles are way up, trucks dont have any of that bs assist crap, APUs/Fridge in all the trucks, not a mega carrier, just the whole place is much better all the way around...even ask me how many miles i like to run and if i prefer days or night runs!! Hauled a load of Greek Yogurts n shipper gave me some..lol...About 35 of us left the other place n came here... 😆.....anyways stay safe and Happy Holidays to ya Clutch.

You need to write your congressman about your concerns on the safety. My friend and congressman Mike Collins in Georgia is fighting to change a lot of that. He owns a trucking company with over 100 trucks. He don’t like them either, but our fine government is who requires them on trucks. The people they appoint to head transportation has no clue of anything with trucking. So the more people that write to their state representatives the better chances to get things changed.
That’s what i didn’t like on my 2017 honda crv but it only does it when the cruise is on .the book says it can be bypassed by holding the button down for five seconds but didn’t work for me at least they could do is give you that option in trucks safe travels clutch
The adaptive cruise is annoying and unnecessary, but that auto braking system is just downright dangerous. A few days ago mine kicked in for no reason and scared the crap out of me. Eventually, something really bad is going to happen and Freightliner will be sued for millions.
Out of all of my years of being over the road 32 years and going never once did I ever have a crapper floating around my bunk. Always found a spot to get relief in and out then motor on. Not once was I late for doing such.
It is not just Freightliner, all the OEM companies install these systems in the trucks. Sometimes these places that do grooming feed the animals a drug to calm them down. Some people smear some grease on the sensors to restrict them.
I don’t own anything that I haven’t tweaked (hacked), so I’m tempted to say bypass some of those features; BUT (big but), I don’t know how any of that would affect a professional driver if shit ever hits the fan. It’s a tough call. It just seems so damned un-American to not be able to personalize and work on something that you bought with your money! Safe travels always neighbor!
Noticed that as well. I don’t care how old you are or how careful you think you are. If you’re not at least wearing your seatbelt , no one will take you seriously when talking about safety. Hell, that’s the least you can do to keep your ass in the seat.
The freightliner has a cancel button for lane keep assist, being aware of your surroundings, and being ready to act accordingly to give the fuel pedal a go when braking warnings come up. Wait until you get a newer truck with more bells and whistles to warn you of your blind spot when the blinker is used
You must be talking about the bendix mitigation system. It is absolute garbage. I drove for yellow for two years before they closed. My first experience was in a set of doubles on 40 east in the gorge. It started to rain and someone pulled in front of me the tractor slamed on the brakes causing my rear pup to swing into the other lane. Lucky for me there was no car there. Alot of yellow drivers use to unplug that front sensor. Its Bendix u hat needs to be sued. They are very dangerous.
Hey brother, when you’re in Effingham Illinois look up the Diesel Dr half mile off the interstate 57 they will turn all of that off for you. I got a 2018 Cascadia they turned all of it off of me for $200.
Yup, the only way to get it done. Not one dealership on earth will do it for you. Although it took me several hours to look through Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link and turn off all the stuff I didn't like, it should realistically take only minutes for a tech to change those parameters. Still trying to find the damned Ice Warning message and disable it.
I had to drive a 17 Cascadia for 2 years. I never used the cruise just for that reason. Mine would not do brake check ,only did that once in a truck stop parking lot; it would have a "collision " message pop up on the message center. Another thing i hated was the lane position sensors, drove me nuts. This safety sensor crap doesn't belong in trucks! I feel that those safety features are in trucks for those who dont know how to drive. I hated driving that Freightliner. On the plus side it was dependable always got me home. It get great fuel mileage because i always bobtailed & hauled empty trailers. Before the Freightliner I drove a KW with those same "Safety Features " and it would brake check for no reason once on ice with empty hopper trailer. It was a 13 speed manual the Freightliner was an automatic. That KW would dobthe brake check even with cruise control off.
I don't know how I could trust that system on ice and snow! Thank God I don't drive anymore. They're using your truck as a guinea pig experiment. We're all thinking about you and wish you well on the highway. Glad you got the Son a car!
These "safety features" have become mandated by de facto through slightly cheaper insurance rates which add up for huge carriers with tons of power units. Truck manufacturers can charge more for the invasive and sometimes dangerous tech, service can charge more for certs necessary to calibrate/maintain it, and when drivers realize how cheaply made, poorly designed and inneffective it actually is, the insurance companies can deny claims bc the driver disabled/bypassed it. It's a huge racket, and needs to be looked into.
You'll notice after a while when you're backing in it won't be lurching you'll just automatically figure it out mine used to lurch all the time I can't remember lurching at all the last few years
Maybe you could try just using your foot for controlling the fuel delivery. Another few weeks and we will have Donnie Trumpsteins new Dot boss Shawn Duffy, he's a TV celebrity with no industrial, logistics or engineering experience. He said his main priority is making air travel more enjoyable with more legroom and better snacks. I'm sure he will get right on these problems that truck people are dealing with. He will be so much better than Pete buttplug and trucking will be an enjoyable experience again. 😂
Really gotta have your eyes looking far out down the road because those freightliners will lock up on you from a over pass that it thinks it’s too low or a guardrail it happened to me a couple of times you have no choice but to ride with your foot on the gas pedal only good thing about the freightliners is it has plenty of storage inside and it has a great turn radius
The 2025 model isn’t much of an improvement either, one thing I do like from the sensors is the ability to see how fast the person in front of you is driving. The rest of the safety sensor can go in the trash
Without so called " safety" features Freightliner is a nice truck. Had one with the crap and it was driving me nuts. Had to disconnect all of the sensors.
I LOVE Adaptive Cruise Control. And, Clutch, you are totally exaggerating when the ACC starts reducing the truck’s speed when coming up on a vehicle ahead of the truck. Specifically, the ACC kicks in when you are within 400 feet at highway speed.
It’s on all trucks not just freightliners.I think the same you do,it’s just dangerous!!One I drove slammed on the brakes because of an overhead road sign.If you unplug the sensor your cruise won’t work, that’s the downfall of that.
Truckers, remember even though a computer is attempting to drive your truck. YOU are responsible when it causes an accident I no longer drive “” accident, avoidance trucks “ I will not take on the liability for what a computer does.
Go buy a Pete or KW or any other tractor built in the 70's you won't have any of those problems. If you buy one, all you will have to do is spend about 130K and you have the perfect tractor, or don't use the cruise control in the truck you are driving now. It's your choice.
Pull the VRDU fuse to disable it, if you don't mind having ABA & ACC lights on the dash, and you will likely get some pop up a msg saying ACC not active and be asked to select manual cruise control option when you first activate cruise. Otherwise, to disable those things and not have the lights, you would need a mom & pops mechanic with Detroit Diesel Link software.
It was a total disaster. The guy behind thought indid it on purpose like a brake check. Cops came and info was exchanged. Long story short, i was fired!

I know right. You should never run with cruise control in icy, rainy, snowy weather conditions.

There is also a button for hills/lunging (HSA) Use it for smoother operation.
Don't worry about it
You must be talking about the bendix mitigation system.
So, you don't really like Cascadias!!! LOL!! Maybe Freightliner will see this video and look into these issues!!
How can I contact you? I was looking for an email but I don't see one. I'd like to talk to you about that truck you have for sale.
It’s his channel name and a very popular email service with a G.
I don't know how I could trust that system on ice and snow! Thank God I don't drive anymore. They're using your truck as a guinea pig experiment. We're all thinking about you and wish you well on the highway. Glad you got the Son a car!
Freightliners are like tricycles, they are starter trucks, when you grow up you get a Pete or a KW hood.
Even a volvo is an improvement
i know im getting old when the last knewer freightshaker i drove was an fld model.& spent 11 years in various flc models.
Clutch, to keep the truck from lurching with the automated transmission, just feather the fuel peddle.
Clutch you should be able to turn those features off I think I'm in a 2022 cascadia and don't have any of that on this truck.
💯 agree!!
Why did you buy it ?
Yes those huge pillers left & right along w huge mirrors very dangerous 😢
Clutch trucker have you ever considered trading that truck in and getting a used W900L those trucks are amazing and big and to me a real truck
You'll notice after a while when you're backing in it won't be lurching you'll just automatically figure it out mine used to lurch all the time I can't remember lurching at all the last few years
Yes, adaptive cruise control sucks. I just keep my foot on the peddle.
Hey Brother
Great Video
My wife car has that feature.
It can be dangerous.Someone can rear-end you
I'm surprised it's on
A tractor trailer😮
Maybe you could try just using your foot for controlling the fuel delivery. Another few weeks and we will have Donnie Trumpsteins new Dot boss Shawn Duffy, he's a TV celebrity with no industrial, logistics or engineering experience. He said his main priority is making air travel more enjoyable with more legroom and better snacks. I'm sure he will get right on these problems that truck people are dealing with. He will be so much better than Pete buttplug and trucking will be an enjoyable experience again. 😂
Personally I wouldn't touch a plastic cascadia for anything
I have a 2021 Cascadia all I did was went to the front bumper opened it up and unplugged it
To fool the co puter: If any AC current "leaks" it goes from minus 1 to 0 to plus 1 the plus one and zero is computer talk. Sometimes it may say stop!
I believe you can place tin foil over the forward sensor and you won’t lose your cruise control.
Freightliners used to be good trucks back in the day. Then they came out with the Century Class and it's been downhill since then.
It definitely can be disabled in the ecm but the stealership wont do it
First why are you driving with no sear belt. Second, why do you have the cruise on when you're driving in ice and snow.
Clutch, you shouldn’t have the ACC in heavy traffic. Also, you should NOT have your cruise control on when driving on snowy or icy roads!!!
Why use the cruise control at all? I have never used the cruise control in all my yrs. of truck driving. I want to feel the power in my foot.
The 2025 model isn’t much of an improvement either, one thing I do like from the sensors is the ability to see how fast the person in front of you is driving. The rest of the safety sensor can go in the trash
don't forget the LKA, lane keep asist. it steers the truck. it it scary shit.
I had the steering go out and i landed upside down in the road.
Manual transmissions safer and pretty much any def truck sucks. We were the first company in Minnesota with ELD's , they were OK.
Truckers, remember even though a computer is attempting to drive your truck. YOU are responsible when it causes an accident I no longer drive “” accident, avoidance trucks “ I will not take on the liability for what a computer does.
I got fired for unplugging it. 🤣 I got my job back 30 days later. 👍
Never thought of that. I just figured it was idiot drivers. Maybe it is that weird system.
Thats what I love about First Class over at Schmidt Family Trucking. She nay not be the prettiest thing on the road but shes all machine, no silliness
Uhhh… Clutch, that vehicle only being 170 feet ahead of you WAS too close!
Listen the Diesel Dr in Effingham Illinois right off exit right off of interstate 57 turn what they can turn every bit of that off for you
Poetry in motion
Put tinfoil over the sensor on the front
All them Aggie engineers 😂😂😂😂
I know how that crap is Clutch..honestly i wouldn't have even bought the the truck knowing it had that crap on it
Someone i feel that Government incentives to Truck manufacturers to install these features?
You can bypass all the acc steering lane dev easy
Freightliner does not recommend the use of cruise control on slippery or icy roads .
Cascadias are cookie cutter trucks !
I drive older Freightliner it don't have none of that stuff I like too also need wear your seat belt too while driving ok.
Go buy a Pete or KW or any other tractor built in the 70's you won't have any of those problems. If you buy one, all you will have to do is spend about 130K and you have the perfect tractor, or don't use the cruise control in the truck you are driving now. It's your choice.
Write to your corrupt congress person: "Right to Repair" (note: all corporations hate all of us, don't buy into late stage capitalism.)
Take the fuse out. Duh😮
👍🖖
Dumb questions you can't turn off the brake assist?????
Don't think you can I drove a 2020 and I don't remember seeing anything to shut it off in the settings
Clutch mentioned that you have to unplug the radar on the front, good question though
@@josephwootenVGK no such thing as a dumb question my friend
