I bought this game from WalMart when I was a kid. This game is special because it marks the first time I was disappointed with a game I spent saved money on.
I still remember in the MMOish Marvel Heroes Online when Blade was near Iceman Blade would say "The only cat I know who can ice skate up hill" it was a nice reference.
The Warriors by Rockstar is probably the finest example. Does a lot of events set before the film and has flashback missions for how each member joined the gang.
That is the most off brand looking Marvel Logo I've ever seen. Also that blood pool is about the same quality as the blood dripping on Deacon scene was.
Control Stick combat done decently: Jet Li's Rise to Honor (Its actually pretty good from what I remember) Control Stick combat done horribly: Nina Williams in Death by Degrees

@@HiGlowie Yep. We Loved Jamming our Plays in the Country Side. Man I miss those days. Farming. Riding horses. Fried Lambs Tale. Then Tekken. Or Crash,Spyro and Blade.
You got to where i did as a kid. I only got to play this once (i loved it but could never find it again) i was playingwith my step brother but he sucked, so i pretty much had to only use the sword because he would run through all the equipment by the time he got to a save point. So on my turn i would gather as much resources as i could get to a save point then i would die, and repeat the cycle again.
Honestly a new Blade game would be a welcomed one, especially nowadays with the more slower but quality titles that have popped up in recent years, Insomniac's Spider-Man games, Eidos Montreal's Guardians of the Galaxy, that PSVR Iron Man game, seriously I really do hope Marvel opens their IPs to the smaller studios, cause they have potential, Wayforward is one I think would be a great fit, make them work on a Metroid-Vania with a fitting property, Antman could work, as well as Spider-Man. Also Suda 51 the guy behind No More Heroes and Lollipop Chainsaw expressed interest on Marvel IPs and mentioned Deadpool being one of his favorites, so there's your Deadpool Game Dev right there.
Back when i was a kid, one of my friends said that you could play as Spiderman if you had both copies of Spiderman 1 and 2 with a save of each game with 100% complete run....i believed that🤦🏻
Blade II on PS2 was dope. if you didn't just flick the right stick like a maniac, as the game says not to do, the combat can actually be pretty good. You just have to pace it with your strikes. Now I want to play this on Duckstation.
Jet Li Rise to Honor uses joystick to fight as well, Be nice to see Blade and Rise to Honor get remaster/remake or that odd in-between original and overhaul style.
Gonna tell you the same thing I tell all PS1 blade players. Consider trying the gb color version. It was directed by the same person that did Double Dragon 2 (and some kunio kun too) on NES and the family relationship really shows. Its got a similar kind of attack combo as DD2, a simple but satisfying timing based block/counter system that lets you tear through basic enemies once you master it plus a solid cabal/wild guns style minigame where you use A and B to alternate shooting into the background or at the midground (?) to fend of enemies.
Yo, I actually played this game thanks to the movies. It was only years later that I figured out you could kill the final boss another way. Aparently, you can reach the final level by night.
watching blade switch levers and push buttons is like 90% of the comics. In fact, they didn't even add a vampire until issue 74. "True" story. (not at all true)
I would honestly love a new polished Blade game that plays like Devil May Cry. It could take inspiration from the Wesley Snipes movies, but be it's own thing. One can only dream.
Analog stick combat games I still think are cool are Monster Hunter 1 on PS2 and Monster Hunter 3 on Wii lol. I like analog stick controls in MH, but I realize now the weapon movesets are too varied and technical for that to be realistic as an option anymore lol
my theory is blade has silver tipped spurs on his boots for kicking vampires that are too small to show up on ps2 graphics and that's why he can kick vampires to death
I'd forgotten about this! I remember buying it for pennies in late 2001. Didn't take me too long to beat it and had a good time doing so. Aren't you supposed to time your hits with the squares for big damage? It's been twenty-plus years!
my guess is that the developers of this game took some liberties, and you know that most of the time that's the right way to proceed when you're creating a game based on a movie.
You think Blade was the first good Marvel movie? Wrong, TECHNICALLY it was Men In Black since Marvel Comics owned it elemayo. Anyway, this game doesn't look too bad. Not particularly exciting and is kinda of store brand Duke Nukem: Time To Kill X Shadow Man (but linear) vibe to it. Aside from Blade's apparent lack of health, seems quite "OK For The Time". The only superhero PS1 games I know of (that I'm not sure if Matt has played in a video) would be basically the X-Men Fighting Games (Children Of The Atom, Mutant Academy 1 and 2).
My favorite joystick combat game is Too Human. A game that died and shouldn't have but because of shady business practices it failed!!!!!! Also it's October, I'm looking forward to castlevania month!!!!!
The high-frequency blade was controlled with the right stick, if I remember right. Flicking the stick would slash, and clicking the button in would thrust.
I would like to play a Black Panther game before a Blade game just based on the possibility that Marvel may water down some of the more violent elements that could make a Blade game good/authentic.
You brave man, playing a ps1 licensed game I do have a morbid curiosity about these types of games though lol I wonder if blade 2 on ps2 was any good ?
Control stick combat... Not including twin stick shooters, I can think of MGS2, MGSR, Wondeful 101, and I count DMC2 just because of its awful sword combo system. I would say MGSR nd W101 used it very well, while the other two did not. Control stick combat is out here with a roughly 50% success rate. That's not bad, really.
15:12 Megaman X6, Red Dead R2, PS2 Lupin the 3rd, Pretty sure there were escort missions in Armored Core................. But yeah, I have seen trains suck

I love how they knew how to capture the feel of the Blade movie.
By just overlaying club rave music over the game.
I still remember in the MMOish Marvel Heroes Online when Blade was near Iceman Blade would say "The only cat I know who can ice skate up hill" it was a nice reference.
Some game developers are always trying to roller BLADE up a steep incline
This is probably one of those licensed movie games where it's like, "this is what Blade was doing before the events of Blade 1"
At last, we can complete that Blade movie wikia entry
The Warriors by Rockstar is probably the finest example. Does a lot of events set before the film and has flashback missions for how each member joined the gang.

I had Blade for the Gameboy color it was a sidescroller with some top down shooter levels. As a kid I loved it and it's not too bad revisiting.
🦇 Blade, I had no idea had a game. Fun to take a trip back in time
It's a guilty pleasure
Rise to honor!! Amazing control stick combat, although certainly not without its flaws
Loved Blade so much I finished this game and the ps2/Xbox version.
The jet Li game had stick control combat and it was done well in my opinion. You should do a let’s play of that one too
