warp.net/record... Full live version of Hello Meow, taken from the album 'Hello Everything' out now. Download and watch high quality widescreen versions of this video at www.squarepushe...
I think that the best part of this video comes about 23 seconds in, when he pushes a button so damn definitely to start the sequence. I think it's great how he creates the whole mix, then adds his own little bit into it with his catchy bass line.
This album is great, ther're other songs I love like "Welcome to Europe", "Planetarium" and "Rotate Electrolyte".... I love squarepusher, he is a unbelievably talented bassist, great technique, great ideas, visionary....
@loopback69 as a bass player i'd say its not about being technically challenging to be inspiring. It's about being able to lock in the groove appropriate for the tune and having people feed off of it.
This is the 8th time I click play to this song, and I'm about to make de 9th. This guy just feels it, that's what's behind a genius, just feeling it and sharing it. music for everybody
I'm not sure I should even put a thumbs up, more like a thumbs down but I see your point, the grammy ppl have their head somewhere else, when real musicians are making music behind closed doors. People like this guy are too good for the mainstream, underground forever!
the gig of the decade! i was there last year, after having tried to see him over in belgium for more than 10 years!!! how come he always bailed those gigs anyhow? Well, at least i got a chance to hear him live, and this video's a great souvenir. Thanks forputting it online! chuck
At 3:44, he slaps much faster than usual for a few seconds. he said in an interview he uses his thumb & pinky for that. I once saw another bassist down at Sam Ash use it too, but I didn't get to ask him about it.
Awesome, unique track! IMO Squarepusher's very best in every element. That messed up experimental noise of his early years was never as refined and/or musical as this. He's grown, and I'm in awe as to how great he's become in just a few years. Respect
I knew a kid from high school who looked way too much like this guy...and he was super influenced by him doing that drill'n'bass-idm-jazz-electronic oriented kind of style
gotta hand it to the guy. plays badass bass and pulling the show off solo. pretty smart move, by not having other bandmates he has eliminated the problem of getting other people to agree to do what he wants to do which can often be a sticking point in groups. dude's a genius. (of course at this point he can probably get people to go along with him. yuk yuk.)
The MAESTRO! ENCORE, ENCORE! I hope Tom keeps his passion for making music for himself and us until he dies. He's not only a phenomonal compositional musician, as you can see he's a bass guitar virtuoso. Also, see his bass work on "Come on my selector". Effing excellent. UBER-RESPECK!
no no well youre right. I guess I worded my response badly. What I meant is that his strength is composing, but it's very impressive that he is a phenomenal composer as well as being practically a virtuoso on the bass.
Hey, every hair of that guy's beard is wired into a different super-computer that controls a different aspect of the musical output from Tone to Noise Level, you just can't see that
I'm a huge fan of both...Les is working is bass like no other but he doesn't go electronic ;(..but we have squarepusher for that!! And he goes crazy with is bass with different time signatures...mmm...real candy for me!
that's like saying we should stop using analogue drums, bass or whatever, drum n' bass and such is based around the amen break, it'll always be there. live with it
I saw yesimoperatorx in HMV buying all the squarepusher CDs and a few days later again, begging staff to re-stock so he can buy them again. "Please, I beg you!" he said. "I just love Squarepusher's complex playing techniques, I try to copy him but It just comes out all pseudo, this sucks, Bevis!" and stormed out. Odly, I felt concerned and followed him, only to see him pummeled and robbed by the zombie of Arthur Russell for miss-spelling his name on a comment that he left on You Tube.
Dear operatorx, squarepusher is pure genius on the bass. he is one of the best in world. Just watch the video, watch his finger and hand movement, compare it against other who you deem "soulful music". You obviousy know nothing about making or playing music by your comment.
It’s 2024 and this 240p video still slaps.
Yes 🙌
You know it's good when the highest available quality is 240p
Phillip Ech neeerrrrrd'h
God I’m old
Yes?
"now Tom, don't smoke in that shirt! I don't want to see holes in your good church shirt! Good luck on your bass recital. Love."
-Tom's Mom
It’s 2022 and this still slaps in 240p quality.
I forgot about this song for a couple years, glad to rediscover it!! Such a euphoric song! :D
Slaps literally.
I was there in 2005 best gig I ever saw + Luke Vibert, great memories.

you could say that he "pushes a square", if you will
i saw him live i think 2017 in Finland, the grand joke was that when Squarepusher came to perform, Aphex twin could not come
. So we got both
i love the sounds he gets, proper funky.
love the song too, great for partys
I saw him once in a sold out show in Atlanta a few years ago, amazing bass work, he loves those quirky sound effects :D
This album is great, ther're other songs I love like "Welcome to Europe", "Planetarium" and "Rotate Electrolyte"....

I also endorse this statement.
Sounds like you need to make a music video
Like supermario sunshine
Kid A was many years after such kind of music started to exist.
I'm not sure I should even put a thumbs up, more like a thumbs down but I see your point, the grammy ppl have their head somewhere else, when real musicians are making music behind closed doors. People like this guy are too good for the mainstream, underground forever!

This track has colourful melodies
2:58 great bass solo entry, now that's a manual and a digital beast!

You're indeed right! His first album was released in 1996.
I knew a kid from high school who looked way too much like this guy...and he was super influenced by him doing that drill'n'bass-idm-jazz-electronic oriented kind of style
Grooovin thirteen years on 🤗
Why did I ever stop listening to this guy?!!!
AMAZING!
It's also in an AXE/TAG (can't remember) commercial for Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia.
He will don't worry. I saw him yesterday @ Melkweg/Amsterdam it was awesooome.
Pretty amazing!
he's so cute
you have to remember that this was uploaded in 2006, before youtube had HD uploading and only a 100 mb limit, so most stuff had to be in 240p
beautiful bass work.
Why couldn't this version be on the album!! :P
Fan bloody tastic, great stuff......
This guy can write a cracking melody and bad ass bassline!
I can't stop staring at my screen in amazement O_o.

It makes me real happy that at this moment this video has 808k views.
fantastic
You got that 100%. The people that go to those shitty awards don't know anything about music. The ones that do quickly go in and out.
i hope squarepusher makes more live perfomances'''
ha this elecro my night trip to home! Jenkinson know how :) Best!
This should just be used for the regular video, no need to make another one. It fits his style perfectly.
Most modern electronica artist hail to Aphex Twin, Luke Vibert, and Squarepusher.
It is very cooooooool!!!!
i love this guy
yes he's one of the greatest bass players around.
amazingness.
He's the fucking Superhero!

The man is a machine.

YES!
Thom Yorke is a squarepusher fan! Kid A was a few years after squarepusher too.

I love organised noise.
This makes me smile, jamming with pure electro funk!
380ishBPM?
Hey, every hair of that guy's beard is wired into a different super-computer that controls a different aspect of the musical output from Tone to Noise Level, you just can't see that
This song reminds me of something that would be in a megaman game. Its excellent.
I'm a huge fan of both...Les is working is bass like no other but he doesn't go electronic ;(..but we have squarepusher for that!! And he goes crazy with is bass with different time signatures...mmm...real candy for me!
seeing him in sheffield tonight!!!!
