I loved this! I’m working a corporate 9-5 right now doing social media management but my heart is with branding. I love design and I get so excited when I have the opportunity to do so. It’s inspiring to know you were once in my spot. I’m juggling upwork, a internship, school & the 9-5! It will pay off 👍🏽👏🏽

i got a bachelors degree in graphic design last year and i finally got a graphic design job 7 months later.. however, i feel stuck rn being in this 9-5 cycle. i’m barely using my graphic design skills here and i feel burnt out. watching this video gives me hope because i’ve always had a passion & desire for branding and freelance

Thank you for this video! I feel like we have a similar story. I got my graphic design degree at a community college - I quickly realized the curriculum was very outdated, so I had to do a ton of extra work on the side, learning all of the new programs. I got involved with the college Design Club and through that I started attending events hosted by local art societies and organizations and started building my network. I landed a huge freelance job one month before I graduated. Every opportunity since then has been through networking and saying yes (even when I was scared). It hasn't been easy. I've worked with awful clients and gotten through some tough desk jobs. Now I am working at a non-profit helping all types of great clients. I came across your website recently when I was looking for a website questionnaire. This is the first time I have had to manage multiple types of design jobs on my own - sending out contracts and invoices, etc. You offer so many great resources and your newsletter is so helpful (rather than annoying like some). You genuinely care about others in the graphic design community. I will keep tuning in, for sure!

Thank you so much for this! I graduated last year from highschool and I’m currently studying nutrition because of the exact same reason of yours (the feminine urge to be a fitness girl who eats well haha) but my heart is fully into graphic designs, I had a youtube channel (which is the one I’m writing the comment with) got me into video design, then switched to graphic design only for fun too, I got an ipad two months ago and now I don’t really know what path I’m taking but I’ll just listen to my desires engaging in graphic design .

Were there any courses you took online to help with your business or design skills ? Since you didn’t go to school for graphic design ! 💕
At the time online learning was not as popular so not really! However, being forced to learn all the programs at the jobs I had helped a lot! I did however utilize TH-cam often for learning Adobe tools. I have courses too, if you are interested 😊
Do you think it's possible to combine your skills in design with your interest in fitness/health? asking as a gym rat myself lol 😆Fitness has gotten huge (specially in social media.) Do you think those emerging influencers/companies are in need of designers?
Absolutely! That is a niche that needs design. I actually niched down to "wellness" brands so I can get the fitness people, beauty businesses, and self care. You should tap into your passions and combine them.
