I did 14.8 secs. in my 100% stock 2006 WRX (not STI), yes the one with 226hp, and I was not shifting aggressively. That same week a friend did 13.9 with a his 99% stock 06 WRX, again not an STI. All STI's were 13.5 and below. I tought I was the worst driver on earth, but I guess motorweek test driver takes that honor. 14.5 in an STI, I wonder if he ever took off the emergency break.
Motortrend driver in 2013 got 4.7 0-60, braking at 107ft from 100. Motorweek is showing it's age, not the STI. Get a real driver. Rev to 5500 and do a little clutch slip and it launches hard. 6.2 seconds 0-60 is what the 2014 forester xt gets.
@AMGrulz - How tricky can it be to rev it up to 5K and dump the clutch? Certainly it's something you'd want to do sparingly in your own AWD performance car, but test cars are provided to be beaten on by the automotive press. The test driver most likely launched it like it was his own car and not a sacrificial demo car.
It does in the sense that they're not really marketing these cars as 4x4s or inclement weather vehicles. They're full-on performance cars. Summer tires give them supreme performance in anything but cold weather. That's why most Subaru owners in colder climates have a 2nd set of tires (I've 3 sets; one for racing, one for street, and one for winter).
To be fair, they did state that they had a hard time launching the car. I've a 2011 sedan...I've owned 4 cyl turbocharged cars before, as well as v6 and v8 performance cars. The STI is the most difficult car I've ever tried to launch. But it's not really meant for such driving...it's definitely good on a real track, though.
@DevPack - Put the best all-seasons you can find on this car and then compare cornering grip and stopping distance against set of even half-ass summer tires... and suddenly it DOES make sense.
Fun car to drive. Needs more power it's just not fast enough. Everything is top notch about the car. But for the price it's a bit slow. You're looking at about $40k. And subaru dealers will not negotiate. These do not stay at the dealership very long.
According to JD - "Yet, our car proved tricky to launch well. A heavy clutch with late engagement certainly didn't help, and a somewhat disappointing 0 to 60 of 6.2 seconds was the result." Ouch!
@greengoblin1968 I've heard that John Davis' son is the one who does all the driving in these videos, if he's not a trained driver that may explain his less-than-stellar 0-60 and 1/4 mile times?
14.5 is this true?? Just saw another channel that tested it and 14.3, but I just thought they were stupid and wrong. All this time I thought STIs were fast but they're slow as fuck. They're running Altima numbers lol
@frank55656 Every possible way? OK, go get a Mustang GT with a Brembo package and take it to the nearest gravel road and I'll show up in an STi and we'll see who outperforms whom. Hell, I'll even make it a little more fair by showing up in a standard WRX. Then let's go out on some rain-soaked switchbacks. Then maybe up in some snow-covered mountain passes. Then off to Ikea to load up on some furniture. Then we'll re-evaluate our "every possible way" contention.
This guy needs to retire... i think they shot and edited this video in film then transfered to data...the guy talking sounds like he's deaf or shouting over people... what gives on the 0-60 at 6.2... thats just bad testing, everyone knows sti can do it in less than 5 secs...
My dead granny could pull better numbers than that in her eternal sleep. These clowns should be ashamed to publish an amateur review like this. JD needs to hit the treadmill too, he's had a few too many trips to the buffet by the look of things. Life is good on the press junket circuit.

I like how the motorweek 2010 legacy test gets a faster time than the 2011 sti....
I wonder if he left it in Intelligent mode when he ran the 1/4. That would explain the slow time.
Wow this is one of the best reviews by John Davis , so much details .. Pease keep doing it like this!

You need a new test driver. Obviously those numbers are way off.
He was probably granny shifting, not double-clutching like he should
I concur, I feel the same way. The car seems to "grab" too much and the engine tends to bog down
@reevsaj That's because John Davis has kept his style for 30 years.

It is true, some of these subies don't launch well when stock. It took pulling out the cats and 3" exhaust to correct it on mine.
@greengoblin1968 pretty sure the wrx is faster than the sti 0-60 because the wrx has a smaller turbo meaning it's capable of peak power sooner
Just noted that he stated the the diffs adjust power side to side (2:40). He's wrong. It adjusts front/back.

Wow are these times accurate??
@thugangel662 They forgot to put it in sport mode.. if you research it more its closer to 4.5 seconds for 0-60. it beats the EVO 4.9 seconds.
@DevPack - Put the best all-seasons you can find on this car and then compare cornering grip and stopping distance against set of even half-ass summer tires... and suddenly it DOES make sense.
I don't know about you guys, but if you listen at 3:08, sounds like they might have had clutch issues or something...
Thanks for uploading!
No, its pretty much the exact same turbo (with a different manifold, I believe).
@DroverChicago i get what you are saying, but in bad on in other words "fun" conditions i would like to have a set of all season tires.
waiting for the brz sti to come out next year. hopefully they will show the production model this fall.
Haha, yea ...

0-60 mph time is about 4.8 to 5.0 seconds by Road And track , Motor Trend , Car And driver and Automobile Magazine.
According to JD - "Yet, our car proved tricky to launch well. A heavy clutch with late engagement certainly didn't help, and a somewhat disappointing 0 to 60 of 6.2 seconds was the result."
Ouch!
6.2 / 14.5 motorweek. 4.7 / 13.5 motortrend. 5.3 / 13.8 edmunds. Wtf!? This is quite a difference. The mt times were with a hard launch 5k rpm launch.
summer tires in a AWD makes sooo much sense.............
Sir I'm sorry but you can't drive this car go back to your Oldsmobile and let somebody who knows what they are doing drive.
STI #1
can someone explain to me the 0-60 times? ive seen everything from a 4.7 sec to 6.2 sec. this is ridiculous. what is its true 0-60 time?
Old ass comment but I want to know too!
@thugangel662
yea I think that their test driver was having an off day to say the least
I want his job!!!!!! Lucky ass

An 11' STi should be in the mid 13's. 14.5 is laughable
@igotwhips Longer gearing (in the 5-speed manual) FTW
This video feels like it was made in the 80's...
he shift at 4000 rpm at the drag test... what the hell ???
they got 0-60 in 5sec in the 09 wrx review
Wow the regular WRX is faster clocked at 0-60 in 4.7 to 5.3 with less power and much cheaper
@frank55656 Every possible way? OK, go get a Mustang GT with a Brembo package and take it to the nearest gravel road and I'll show up in an STi and we'll see who outperforms whom. maybe they testes at very high altitude
@thugangel662 ya that car is MUCH faster then that..
Wtf 6.2? Lmao first time at the strip?
Good gracious thugangel662 and greengoblin1968 just made my day with their comments....so mean yet so funny...!!
what the fuck?? I get better times in my HONDA! this driver sucks. i have never seen an sti go slower than 14.0 and that was an epic failure.
This guy needs to retire... i think they shot and edited this video in film then transfered to data...the guy talking sounds like he's deaf or shouting over people... what gives on the 0-60 at 6.2... thats just bad testing, everyone knows sti can do it in less than 5 secs...
yeah, cant believe it either... they even get low time on my 5.0, i do all the time under5 sec 0-60 and they say way more than that
Exactly, where the hell did they get this time for the 0-60? Motorweek is one of my favorites for 0-60 times but this is just wrong, wrong, wrong.
He's not the track test driver, never has been. He's just the host.
Yea the driver wasn't driving rite its wqy faster then that
0-60 6.2 sec !!!!!
the worth driver ever = Motorweek
STI 0-60 IN 4.5 sec open the subaru web site
@MrGTR1988 no
Subaru builds a great automobile. These Yanks can't appreciate it though.
@darkknight302 ok darknight. ROFL.
Bad review of a great car. Stick to Camry's Motorweek!
Go finger wag!
hahah, I don't think they had the car in sport sharp during the track test..hahahaah 6.2!! wwoooooww
My dead granny could pull better numbers than that in her eternal sleep. These clowns should be ashamed to publish an amateur review like this. JD needs to hit the treadmill too, he's had a few too many trips to the buffet by the look of things. Life is good on the press junket circuit.
0-60 in 6.2 seconds?? That's Sentra SE-R Spec V territory! Lmao.
The driver....doesnt know how to drive
"A less satisfying STI" Yeap...
Man if there's something Subaru doesn't know how to make, it's a sports car. 6.2 0-60?? LMAO.
my 02 wrx 0-60 is faster hahaha terrible driver
