How To Do Doubles On Bongos

  • Just a quick breakdown of a couple of ways you can approach doubles on the bongos.
When approaching each one, the key is to make sure that each tone is clean and projected equally.
Please keep in mind that you will need to make adjustments when playing without a stand... I'm playing with a stand for the purposes of this video, but find myself needing to adjust my hand positioning when playing with the bongos between my legs.
    Hope y'all enjoy.

Those double are always great for soloing. If u start doubling it up on repiques and on the martillo, broooo...everyone is gonna look at that bongo player and say. SLOOOOW DOWN BUDDY. It has to be on that right moment. If u can do it...👍pero con quidado

I know what you mean about Ralph McDonald...I've been listening to his playing since the 70s when he played with Grover and everybody on CTI. Loved his playing and stole a lot of his licks...such an innovator...RIP Ralph McDonald.

A stand is different. I went to a jam session one week and killed it on my solo sitting, and the next week I was standing and tilted the bongos forward it completely through me off. Positioning is pretty important

What kind of bongos are those? Just bought LP performance series and not feeling them. Advice? Thanks

    • @joamilsoto6591

Legna Beats it’s a LP Galaxy series if not then is the Giovanni signature. They look very similar. But they are expensive. If you are in a Budget then the LP performer it’s great for you and don’t give me wrong the LP performer have a similar authentic sound, they are great for slap, open, close tones. But they are small drum. 6 3/4 inches on the macho and 8 inches on the hembra. Compare to the LP Galaxy and Giovanni Signature they both have a 7 1/4 inches on the macho and 8 5/8 inches on the hembra, that’s why their sound is very good.

Joamil Soto Thank you very much, I’m new getting into the percussion scene. I need to find a vid on how to tune the bongos.
I appreciate the advice and will keep the performance LP’s for now. God bless

Pure 100% almond oil is the best and most highly recommended. Its easy to find but make sure it has no additives and really is pure.
