I really wish they would’ve have reduced the number of flak bursts in this scene. This is USN 44’ level of AA, not IJN 42’ level. Like we literally have photos from Eastern Solomon’s showing how garbage IJN AA is.
Well, according to the armament the Akagi had, they could fire around 3000 rounds of flak per minute.....Not to mention that there are flak from the escort ships as well in this scene.
The cool looking black clouds all around the planes you see in photos are from proximity fuzes which were a technology the Japanese never had during the war.
It's a Hollywood movie , of course they make it dramatic with background music . In reality it would have been hell diving fullspeed with ijn ships firing at you no matter how poor there flak maybe. Pilots who dived bombed must have balls of titanium
Agreed on AA. Plus they’re diving at about 30mph. US naval dove bombing after started at 15k-20k ft and took less than a minute. They were dropping at over 300ft per second with the surface zooming towards them. It must’ve looked terrifying. I’m sure the extra AA what’s the demonstrate how scary the whole experience was, and the courage that it took to do the job. It might have been nice to see a realistic descent and if the radioman called out altitude how alarmingly fast the numbers would tick by. They still did a great job.
2:38 the original scene didnt have this strong recoil sound for the japanese AA gun, i just added it from battlefield 5's American 40mm AA gun, it sounds so much cooler thats why i added it lol, and i just made it so it would sync with the barrel of the aa gun firing with the sound effect
Contrary to movies. A near miss would make planes and men bounce around on deck..And rattle the ship sideways. The last part was epic. They learn about the Thatch Weave. Where two planes can defend each other against lots of fighters..They used it the rest of the war..
They didn't know about the Thatch Weave at that time, Thatch had just invented it and hadn't taught it anyone except a few of his fighter pilots. The dive bombers defended themselves with their rear guns.
Nope cod vanguarad Midway mission is absolutely garbage version one, they absolutely created 100% master flop version of that battle, especially with the US torpedoe bombers going with the dive bombers at 15-20K feet on the air, like bruh, plus on that version the dive bombers come under japanase attack of zero, no no absolutely wrong, the dive bombers come completely unopposed on the battle on perfect moment too, when the IJN cap was focus and busy dealing with the torpedo bombers, or just like it happened pretty much all of them were on the decks refueling and re arm since they have been flying since early morrning and shoot non stop ike mate on the 1976 version they don't show any torpedo bombers of the US forces delay the IJN forces from launch their attacks, plus for that movie they used Essex-class carrier for the japanese... bruh. For me the only version that is successfull on recreate that battls is this movie, even it has a lot of big mistakes, it's still well done and great too.
And as good as the 1976 movie is (I AM NOT SAYING IT'S NOT) did not have access to some information that 2019 Midway did. (I.e. Still classified in 1976.)

A question...if you try to go for realism and not go a bit overboard...how would you do this scene. Its because of Akagi had managed to escape unscathed...American losses probably would have been indeed higher or they might have lost the battle at all.
well yes of the Akagi air crew group was one of the deadliest force of the kido butai, especially the torpedo bombers one, and keep in mind the US carriers of 1942 did not have anti torpedo bulge blister protection, so yeah that would have kill 100% any carrier if hit successfully. This is why USS Enteprise CV-6 during her mid war 1943 refit, she was given that badly need protection, alongside larger numbers of much much better AA then she ever had before. And keep in mind this, US manage to hit 2 carriers out of 4 in 3 minutes, they still have 3, but they launched everything they had, and the 3 carrier would have been hit soon too, leaving 1 fleet carrier vs 3. Still it's even crazy to think US could fail there, but yeah it's very damm close, u do not want the japanese to win knowing how EVIl they were back then on ww2 so ty go US win that damm BATTLE! 1 fleet carrier lost, vs 4 fleet carriers, 1 heavy cruiser, 3k people, including 250 best pilots too, all well done by the US, which give them so much time for their military production of new Essex-class fleet carrier to kick on by late 1942, early 1943. And by 1944 US had the most largest powerfull fleet on the world, alongside advanced technology both on ships and especially PLANES, hellcat is perfect plane for the US. Japan never achieve a new generation and stick witht the zero which was obsolete by early 1943 and 1944 too. But yeah ty god Dick Best manage to land his bomb amidship otherwise it would have been brutal for the US forces to win that battle.

Ironically they used this as a basis for “COD Vanguard” but movies wise I’ll take the 1976 movie of the same name.
