One of the greatest songs of it's times....always loved it!.... I was born in the Port of Liverpool above the Herculanium Docks with the sound of the fog horns on that misty old river in my ears. Good memories of the times in which this song was written....
Came of age in the 60's, top 40 music but then FM broke the mold and played longer tracks. All sorts of 'underground' music started to be exposed to the general public, best thing the boomer generation did IMO. We bought 45's and LP's, packed them around to house parties. People having a house party would call around and get friends to bring albums they did not have. Different world.
I was born in the wrong time. I wanna rock your gypsy soul. ... Everywhere I go it's hip hop everywhere. And also just bad hip hop or pop and the words mean nothing.
I was born the 8th day of 1974. Discovered Van the Man in 7th grade. Loved him in "The Last Waltz" with The Band. Joni Mitchell also astounding. Levon priceless as usual
We are All One connected with the Divine. We are not a drop of water in the ocean, We are the ocean. We are all energy resonating at different degree's in perpetual motion. We are the Present creating the future with the choice's we make. Van is inspired by knowing, feeling, loving.
Heard this song in a movie. Ask Safari. Dream A Little Dream. Jason Robards. Piper Laurie. The two Corey’s. A comedy. And Van Morrison Into The Mistic’s. Great song.
Lord Lord please help me to see into the Mystic! I want to also be able to hear the fog horns thunder whistle blow and not even fear it maybe even love IT!
Originally I wrote it as ‘Into the Misty.’ But later I thought that it had something of an ethereal feeling to it so I called it ‘Into the Mystic.’ That song is kind of funny because when it came time to send the lyrics in WB Music, I couldn’t figure out what to send them. Because really the song has two sets of lyrics. For example, there’s ‘I was born before the wind’ and ‘I was borne before the wind,’ and also ‘Also younger than the sun, Ere the bonny boat was one’ and ‘All so younger than the son, Ere the bonny boat was won’ … I guess the song is just about being part of the universe.” Van Morrison on the meaning of “Into The Mystic”, late 1990s
