➡️ Here’s why: When I used to model, makeup artists would line my eyes in the way I show you in the video and I hated it.
When you line your eyes this way, it makes your eye look “rounder”, and can make you look not like yourself.

Nikol! I’ve just this week discovered you. I am a 65 yo licensed esthetician and former esthetics instructor, and am finding your content incredibly motivating. Spending some time going through your videos and feeling a bit more hopeful about my ‘look’. I take very good care of my skin, incorporating professional skincare, and modalities like ultrasound, microneedling, RF, and microcurrent, but alas, we can only slow down the aging process … not stop it, right? Since retiring three years ago (I’ve kept my license up to date), I’ve taken to eliminating makeup 😕, except for special occasions (of which these days there are few). Your videos have sparked a bit of motivation to get back to it. Lord knows I have closets full of great products! So thank you. I'm helping my daughter with her first baby. Every day I visit put on full makeup eyeshadows and all. I've learnt how to apply makeup almost like a professional 70 this year. Practice makes perfect.

I worked for Lancome in the 90's, and each time we did makeovers, we always started with eyes first, followed by foundation. Shadow primer was always a must. (Lancome used to make the best shadow base, which sadly, was discontinued - I'm still mourning that loss, but i digress).
Thirty years later, I've never deviated from this routine and was thrilled to see you teaching your viewers what I believe is the most common sense makeup hack.
I’m a 74yo JUST retired makeup artist.. love this channel snd the instructions are so clear yet not talking down to grown women!! I will not do a day without makeup (it’s my thing-let it go)..and this is my day look for being home. If I go out I add false lashes.

Thank you Nikol. Simple makeup techniques to obtain an elegant look without going overboard - just enhancing what we already have. Even helping me to understand the usefulness of hair rollers blew my mind because I have never used them.
When I hit 70s I was still very self confident till the eyes got puffy. I can’t afford to surgically accomplish my dream lol. But, I learned from you easy makeup tricks for us older ladies. I still don’t look 76 but, days I’m feeling down I feel 86 lol. My whole life I always looked way younger than my years. So I guess the years caught up. 🥺❤️🙏🏻
I love your attitude that we don't have time for the discouragement and all that has been swirling around us...Now, I am a bit down because I have been sick for a month with Covid and I just can't seem to get better...The cough, the exhaustion, the frustration is getting too much... But, then you! So, Okay, I'm going to really work at shaking it off...Nothing I can do to change my circumstances at the moment but I can change my outlook and viewpoint of where I am at! I played around with eye makeup this afternoon. It was great! I’m 69 and I haven’t played with makeup since I was a kid. So much fun!!! Thank you for reminding me to have fun and enjoy makeup again. And I was finally able to line my eyes on the lash line. I have tried so many times. You’re right…it finally felt weird enough so I knew I was doing it right! 😂 It feels wonderful to look good.
I am so glad you said don't go by rules. I so agree with you. I am no make artist that's for sure, but recently I posted a picture of myself on a Facebook group called going grey gracefully. I do like bold colors and because I'm grey I don't let that stop me. I know, a lot of experts say go with pink lipstick and don't line your bottom eye lid. I'm with you as we grey we need definition. Most of my feed back was positive, but a few didn't like my bold lips or grey/brown eye shadow or my lined eyes. Look I will try other peoples ideas and ways, but at the end of the day I do what makes my eye happy. I don't even know why I posted. I can be impulsive sometimes. Anyway, I just loved it when you said do what you want ladies. I think some women don't like their grey hair because of their makeup. I say the right make up for that person will totally make a difference in how you love your grey /silver on yourself. Thanks for everything.

I have been using Retin A, not just retinoids, for over a decade, and it has really handled most melasma or dark spots, it's so important, maybe the MOST important step in our routine. I love your channel AND I love your correct and brightener, it's fantastic!
Hi Nikol. Happy new year. 72 in March and totally motivated by you! I would say that '20 and '21 are our life experiences and do serve us. Not to bring the negative into our present but to help us uncover and identify what is important leaving behind what is not important. I like how positive you are and how you do makeup. I watched another channel for mature ladies and she didn’t use eyeliner and it looked nice on her but I love eyeliner and I think my eyes look better with it. Eyeliner gets tricky when you mature so I like the way you did yours. Thanks.

I love your simplified approach. The tip placing or laying down eyeshadow vs sweeping is very helpful. I do get in trouble with fall out on the side of my nose and under the outside corner of my eyes all the time. Thank you! I look forward to trying your technique. I only do a neutral eye look and your three shade pallet is perfect. There are too many large palettes out there that are useless for me.
Music Lover YOU SAID IT!! All those huge eyeshadow palettes are overwhelming to me. I don't even own a pallette yet but have some MAC singles. I'm willing to consider a small pallette.
@@KaraLey98 I get it! I love singles. The largest pallet I ever purchased has 12 shades…of which I use 5….maybe. It was the Basic Bae from Catrice and the formula is quite easy to blend. Inexpensive but still what a waste.

@@MusicLover-sb7mo thank you for the tip. Would love to find a small QUALITY pallette, which has shadow which is pigmented And doesn't fall out onto my face while I apply it!
@@KaraLey98 😂 Me too. I think they all have some fall out but Nikol’s advice really helped. I was using a fluffy brush, swiping on the shadow too fast and making a mess. So I tried a smaller stiff brush and now carefully pat it on. Once the shadow is placed, I take a larger but still firm blush to gently wiggle (not swipe) and blend. Once I like the overall placement I use a fluffy blush to buff out edges. It works so much better. Minimal if any fall out and I get better color payoff this way. I have also tried to do my eyes first so I can clean up any fall out before applying foundation. This takes some getting use to because my eyes don’t look great with a blotchy face, but once the foundation goes on it all pulls together. Give it a try!
I just watched my first NIkol video ever. You. Are. A. Kick, Girl! Normally, I’m not someone who enjoys a long makeup tutorial, but you’re very engaging and I learned a lot! I spent a ton of money on skin care, hair care and cosmetics as a younger woman, and I simplified my look as I aged. Of course, you’re stunning - I mean, you looked beautiful before you put on any makeup - but you’ve encouraged me to take it up a notch and add a bit of glamor to my game! My skin is SO dry, and I never do well with powdery products. Still, darling NIkol, I’m inspired. So glad I found you. Thank you! 💖

I have just turned 73 and although I have loved and worn make up my entire adult life it’s an entirely different story now that I am “of a certain age”. Haha! @@kathygreuber6593 I could never afford most of those products either, but there are great inexpensive products and brands that you can use instead. Just start by really targeting something you wish to "improve" then decide how much time and money you can spend, then go from there. The Ordinary's Lactic Acid Nikol has listed is under $8 for an ounce, and addresses several issues.
I don't think anyone uses as many products as she addresses. I think she was just giving us a ton of options. Good Molecules, and The Inkey List are also both Vegan, cruelty free, and inexpensive like the ordinary, and they have some great products also. I also use e.l.f. and Pacifica as well and e.l.f. has some really great cosmetics as well.
I was in a horrible car accident, so I have those additional issues as well as all the medical expenses leaving me almost broke. So, I know that it can feel like you don't have time, money, or don't feel well enough, for example, to be able to make any difference. But, you deserve to be able to engage in self care whether a millionaire or a limited income, and skin care is exactly that, self care. I really hope that I was able to offer you some encouragement. 🥰

@@kathygreuber6593 well, it's been her job, life actually, for most of her life so I understand. She has a lot of knowledge she is able to share with us. I tend to just listen, watch, and learn because I need the guidance. I stopped using make-up for over 10 years, so I need help, and I find her more trustworthy than too many of the "beauty influencers" out there so her opinions are worthwhile as well. Some of the younger make up artists/influencers can be helpful here and there, but using four or five eyeshadow colors, contour, bronzer, blusher, highlighter, etc... is way out of my league of ability. Not to forget that my 54yo face would look ridiculous if I applied cosmetics like all these younger people. 😂 So, I just appreciate that there's someone who does understand that, and offers all of us a road map to avoid looking like a clown. 😬
Social media can be a godsend when it comes to learning new info or improving a skill, but Holy Cow I often feel like I need a Google map app that is for navigating the TH-cam beauty community alone.
And kudos to you because I couldn't even put on make-up in 10 or 15 minutes, let alone five!! 😳 That is impressive!
My dingy bum thought you had replied to her "correcting dark spots" video, so this makes a lot more sense since using 15 products just for something that can be done with one didn't completely make sense. Perhaps I should have gone to bed an hour ago. 🤣🤣
Can I just mention the heated lash curler!
I have been hitting my lash curler with the blow dryer for YEARS! It makes such a difference. Although I have over the years burnt my eyelid just from the edges of the touching my skin for a second. You can go from the perfect curling temperature to too hot in half a second.

In most make up you tube videos a medium colour shadow is used for the crease, it being regarded as some kind of a rule. I love the fact you use a dark shadow instead. Thank you, you really prove that there are no rules in make up!

Wow you can tell you really took care of your skin when you were younger. Beautiful natural skin
I do the opposite of lining the entire lid the same width: I only line half my lid, progressively thinner towards the nose until it disappears just past the middle of the lid. This does the opposite of making the eye round: it elongates it and lifts the outer corner, a bit like a subtle fox eye. I am amazed that I learned to do this as a teen, it was no secret even back then (1990s) yet I see everybody and their mother line the entire lid and no one uses my trick. 🤷♀️

Millennial makeup.....love it! Younger women have so many steps, but it makes them feel good. I remember those days.
I use velcro rollers too and my hair is like cornsilk and straight. It really creates body. Sometimes, I use a curling iron before the velcro. Leave in at least 30 mins.
I gave up on mascara until I bought yours. Incredible!

I never knew how to use the brushes for eye makeup. Great tip! I missed the little sponge applicator!
I used to use large Velcro rollers, and even though I was very careful, I lost so much hair that would get stuck to the rollers. Because I already have fine hair, I had to finally stop using Velcro.
In the 80’s, we used 7 or 8 colors in the eyelid as well.
