      I do think that much of the "weaknesses" of CeeDee Lamb were actually weaknesses of Jalen Hurts (particularly with vision and speed of decisions while under duress). In many cases, Lamb was open for a nice window that a better QB could take advantage of. However, Lamb cannot catch what isn't thrown to him.

      How is ceedee lamb a steal for cowboys? He was drafted In the first round. About what was expected. Now if they got him in the second we could say he was a steal.

    • @thetruth2599
      @thetruth2599 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      BraveStarEric the first round consists of 32 picks. He was a top 6-10 talent in this draft by many analysts. Therefore, getting him at 17 is considered a steal. If chase young fell to 4 for instance, that would also be considered a steal as he is a top 2 talent falling to 4

      @@BraveStarEric - There are different ways to rank potential draft selections. Draft picks are ranked by: 1.) "Best" overall available players; 2.) Position; 3.) Team needs.
      In CeeDee Lamb's case, the Cowboys had him ranked as the #6 overall player in the draft (at any position) and the #1 WR. They didn't expect him to still be available at #17 (the Cowboys' first round pick).
      Strangely enough, the Cowboys were expected by many analysts to select Trevon Diggs with pick #17. In almost every scenario, he was one of three players that the Cowboys were aiming for with the pick. This is because they had the Alabama player as one of their top team needs -- DB. So, Trevon Diggs was expected to be available at #17.
      Since the Cowboys went with the best available player at #17, most thought that they lost out on Trevon Diggs. Yet, the Cowboys were lucky again when Diggs was still available to the Cowboys in the second round (pick #51).
      So, effectively, the Cowboys STILL drafted Trevon Diggs (who they were targeting with their first round pick) but managed to steal CeeDee Lamb in the first round. Even crazier, they were able to pick up Gallimore and Biadasz in later rounds -- both players who were expected to go in the second round.

      It's funny, when you ignore EVERYTHING that he's done, it looks like he hasn't done anything! "As you can see, Andy Dalton & Dak Prescott are basically the same!" LMAO
      Now, to some context stats...
      2019 - Drops, by team(hopefully I don't have to explain the difference between a 'drop' and an 'incompletion'...)
      1st, tied - Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills(hey, Cole Beasley, Dak's previous #1!), Miami Dolphins - 36
      4th - Patriots, 34
      Drops, by player
      1st - Julian Edelman, 13
      2nd - Michael Gallup, 11
      6th[tied] - Randall Cobb, 8
      2019 was also Ezekial Elliots worst full season - he had trouble 'stirring the drink' last season...
      As far as Amari Cooper goes...
      Home vs Away...
      Yds - H: 869yds | A: 320yds
      Avg/att - H: 16.7yds | A: 11.9yds
      1st down - H: 40, 76.9% | A: 14, 51.9%
      20+yd plays - H: 14 | A: 3
      40+yd plays - H: 5 | A: 1
      ...if you think I'm cherry picking, then talk to Raiders fans and ask them why they weren't butt hurt when Dallas gave them a 1st round for lightswitch Cooper. This was a trending story at the end of last season, Rex Ryan even brought this up a couple weeks ago, it's a BIG problem for Cooper. When he's on, he's ON - when he's not, he's nonexistent.
      This isn't even touching on the more advanced accuracy stats that have come out over the past few years since the NFL started data dumping some very advanced information after every game, including in-play ball and player tracking and multiple player context related stats. [if you can't tell, I'm a stat whore - Dak is one of the most interesting cases, considering the numbers, whether stats or pure & utter WINS/record, tell a completely different story than 'popular OPINION']
      Anyway, let me know if you want to see some sources, all of these can easily be backed up. Or, you can just go to Pro-Football-Reference and learn how to use their filter. Their website is a little outdated in design, a bit of a bitch to navigate, but anything that can or has been measured is in there.

    Love his route running and his hands. He wins as much as anyone on 50-50 balls as well but I worry at the next level if his lack of speed and separation will cause too many catches to become contested.
    Can he become DeAndre Hopkins or will he bust or just become WR2 for his career? One thing I think he’s better than Nuke at is running after the catch but to me this might be negated some in the NFL.
    I think many GMs had Jeudy and Ruggs higher for a reason and that’s speed and separation are becoming more important and playcallers see how KC wins with this philosophy.
    Now a counterpoint to all of that is this might be a perfect team for him as Dallas should be more or a play-action type passing offense ie. Let Zeke become the top weapon like Henry is used in Tenn and let Lamb and Coop work off of that.

      LOL with the fucking conspiracy theories... Same reason they picked up a QB at the end of the draft - behind Dak is *COOPER RUSH* followed by *CLAYTON THORSON* who was drafted in 2019 by the Eagles, released at the end of August, before being picked up by Dallas beginning of September 2019. They have N-O-T-H-I-N-G behind Dak, whether he shows up or not. They didn't even have a #3 on the roster last year(Thorson was practice squad), they only had Bulletproof Dak and "Who" Cooper Rush. Arguably playing with fire considering Dak has more rushing TDs than any other QB at 21(Josh Allen is 2nd with 17 - Prescott deserves more credit for putting this work in) and is 5th in rush yards(only 12yds behind Watson) since 2016.
      Picking up Andy Dalton is about as much of a "threat" to Prescott as picking up Luke McCown was in 2017, and picking up Mark Sanchez was in 2016(when Romo was injured and they didn't have anything behind Dak) - PLEASE
      BTW, the money isn't the problem - the years are. Dak IS going to be the highest paid player in the league, Dallas already confirmed that - but Dak wants 4 years instead of 5 years so that he can renegotiate under the major benefits of the new CBA sooner(the new CBA raising the salary cap again - but "they won't have any money for anyone else around him" of course...). That's smart business.

Dalton is someone who grew up in Texas and was willing to take a discount so why wouldn't the Cowboys consider it? Plus they haven't had a quality backup in years. If the Cowboys really felt the way you are claiming, they wouldn't have waited until free agency is almost over when they've been negotiating for a year. They know what Dak wants and have for a year but wait until all these free agent QB's signed elsewhere to make a power move? It doesn't make any sense.

      D Hop is a perfect "upside comparison" player for CeeDee. I do admit I could be biased as I am a big OU fan. Although, I do hate the Cowboys so maybe these two rooting interests act as offsetting 15-yd penalties heh. CeeDee is a mirror image of D Hop when he works the sidelines and constantly catches the ball away from his body a lot of the time only needing 1-hand as his mannerisms and size truly are remarkably similar. Additionally, just like Hopkins, CeeDee's speed never looks like a Hollywood Brown, DeSean Jackson(back in the day) or Ty Hilton speedwise and yet CeeDee has some of the best YAC #s in CFB for a reason(including many big games against quality non-Big 12 defenses, vs. UT, etc.).
      Obviously, CeeDee has years of work ahead to potentially meet and/or exceed Hopkins' production on Sundays but having watched every single snap of his college career I have ZERO qualms in stating CeeDee will be a monster even on the NFL level for the next 5-10 years(how fast he reaches said level depends largely on Dak getting better and/or Dalton turning back the clock ~3-4 years now that he has a HQ OL for maybe the 2nd time in his NFL career).
      Anyway, CeeDee and Kenneth "K9" Murray will prove to be 2 of, if not THE 2 biggest steals in recent draft history before it's all said and done. A lot of these plays and his success is largely due to defenders not being in the right position, or biting on moves that even the most average NFL player wouldn't. @@loganmcb553 Yep, really. He is a big play guy. He did not make even the top 50 for receptions in college in his senior year. He is not very good against press coverage and his ratio of contested catches against number of total receptions is concerning. He might surprise me, but having watched a great deal of footage on him his strength is his ability to take contested catches, stay balanced and make yards after the catch. I think he will struggle against bigger body faster NFL coverage, will get shut out by press, and wont make nearly as many of those contested catches. Of the top 8-10 receivers taken in the draft he has the lowest floor and actually has very real bust potential. That being said, the Cowboys might just be the perfect fit too and his big play capacity might mean that 40 catches and 10 big plays a year from him will just round them out.

      Dyrty Barstud this is just a bad take, receptions are skewed to because Hurts was super inaccurate and if you actually watch film on CeeDee you’d know that Hurts accuracy issues harmed him. He has great hands and is really underrated as a route runner, I can also promise you he’ll have a lot more than 40 receptions

    • @dyrtybarstud5261
      @dyrtybarstud5261 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@loganmcb553 Certainly Hurts was not the most pass prone QB, but he WAS still 7th overall in college for passing yards. This REALLY does not fit with Cee Dee being outside the top 50 in personal yardage. I would argue that Cee Dees inability to get open through elite route running actually reduced Hurts total passing numbers and was one of the reasons that he chose to run more than usual. It is almost solely his hands and the capacity to make the contested catch that have made him look great with BIG plays, but many people heavily over rate his ceiling at NFL level. Dont get me wrong here, he could easily be a good third option at Detroit but if he cant learn to beat press more consistently his floor is very low. He does not have truly elite speed. 4.50 is good without being great and NFL quality corners will own him at the line and be far better at spoiling the contested catch ability he has. Like his 40 time, all his combine indicators are pretty middle of the road so there is a nagging voice in the back of my head whispering that he just is not a true first round guy. We have no agility drills to look at which i am sure was VERY deliberate on his part. I suspect if teams had been able to see that then he would not have gone till the 3rd+ round.

    @svennasty 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    WR was a need for the Cowboys. After Gallup in the lineup you really have nobody that's produced or has many traits you want out there as. A starter. Cedrick Wilson and like who else? Noah Brown maybe I don't rremember. Also if Gallup continues to produce he may want a fat contract after this season and most teams see him as a potential no.1. Who knows if it will be something the Cowboys can pay realistically. Wasn't as great if a need as DE or DB though. Great breakdown very good detail and information.

    • @michaelmichaelagnew8503
      @michaelmichaelagnew8503 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should always go for best player available in the 1st round, the pick made perfect sense. If you always pick for need you will always be an average team picking an average player, and being stuck back in the same position every year in the draft.

    • @LukeF2323
      @LukeF2323 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Michaelagnew I think it’s a cop out to say you ALWAYS go best player available. The cowboys haven’t been relevant in so long and it’s because they constantly make the flashy or media picks/signings instead of actually logical choices. I don’t see how having 3 stud receivers makes sense right now unless they’re gonna let Gallup walk/trade coop in the future. A DB, Dlinemen or trading back was the right move imo but I guess only time will tell!

    • @michaelmichaelagnew8503
      @michaelmichaelagnew8503 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Luke F ya maybe but you only trade back if the current players still on the board are not worth the pick. Luckly the cowboys were not in that position. You don’t turn down a player like ceedee lamb if he falls to you.

    • @LukeF2323
      @LukeF2323 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Michaelagnew I just don’t really see the massive impact he makes. Coop and Gallup numbers are inevitably going to dip but they JUST paid coop so much to take on less of a role in the offense? They lost a little production from Cobb leaving, but I truly don’t think this makes them relevant in the NFC at all, it’s just not a winning formula to lock up so many assets in your receiving core imo. I still think the eagles have a better roster in their division alone lol

I think both went to the right teams. Broncis already had a Lamb type in Sutton even though Lamb is better. Broncos needed a more consistent threat. Dallas already had a Jeudy type in Amari, they needed someone who could highpount the ball especially in the redzone where they struggled.
