I’ve been playing guitar for around 30 years and can do a lot of this stuff but the way you explained it makes me look at it in a total different way and gives me so many more options to play this way. It makes more sense to my brain thinking in. Intervals like this rather than modes etc. Thank you so much this lesson was amazing!
totally agree SIMON IS A FRET BOARD WIZARD and has so many ideas and knowledge of endless possibilities but plays with FEEL TONE AND PHRASING , that just come out of his vocabulary and creativity its not just licks and tricks its INSPIRATIONAL BRILLIANT AMAZING TOOLS AND IDEAS TO CREATE AND PAINT SOME COLOURFUL MUSIC
@@PPIMV I'm also super intrigued by the box you made to test cap values. I have messed around a ton on both my Les Paul and PRS S2 Single Cut with this. Also trying treble bleeds in there as well at different values. Does the box accurately show the tonal variance if it's placed externally before the rest of the circuit? Or is the point to just show that there is a difference between the values on tone regardless of where it is in the signal for demo purposes?
@@DavidFeilyMusic It works pretty much just like it does in your guitar...your cable adds a bit of capacitance as well of course, but negligible compared to the size of the tone caps. I'll go into more detail next time, but as long as the box is first in line it is basically a substitute for your guitar's tone circuit.
Love this kind of tips. I know the different scales to play with... but I just mix all that and don't get anything that great. Your advice of leaving space and incorporating some key tones in each phrase is great. And I love the feel and smoothness of your playing. Thanks for the inspiration !!

I love those bebop sounds that you play and I've managed to get some of those sounds into my playing a bit more now with the help of fellow musicians like yourself! I actually learned that there is a technique called "pivoting" which is when instead of playing up through a triad, you pivot down the octave and go up the triad from there instead. The result is a really cool change in direction type sound. I never knew what that sound was called, but sax players do it a lot because they can run out of range on their instrument! another great lesson, Mate!

They are everything from woody to glassy without even a faintest trail of fizz! There must be some secret here. Sending you my kindest regards!
Hi IsomacTea, well I design my own pedals, so I guess I tend to tweak and set them for the kind of tones I like. I want enough treble content and clarity, but not so much upper fizzy stuff generally. It changes though - sometimes for more of a rock tone I like some of that upper end bite. Cheers, Simon

By the way. the amp experiments and pedal designing and all the stuff you showed me were so influential in my Tone seeking. The original purple kingsley with the wood logo your wife made. Everything you ever lent me was played pinned. lol Even that Hiwatt bulldog that you lent me. Put it in a different room with the door shut and cranked it up for max gain. lol Heaven. That little toaster though, full blast was so silky smooth and rich. loved it.
Cool memories for sure...I recently did the caps etc in the Toaster, but it made it a bit more sterile ...will have to work on it a bit. That Hiwatt was fantastic too - unfortunately I don't have it any more, which I now regret.

Glad you liked it! I'm playing through a Kingsley Juggler preamp and into two tube power amps - a Kingsley Crucible and a the effects return of a 100W combo. With the tone cap part it's a Kingsley Constable, then pushed by a Mason boost/OD.

Thanks Vito! I would look at the Minstrel as a great all around drive pedal. Also the Peasant is great for pushing the Page into more gain...

I used to hate mini humbuckers, til today..
I'll talk more about them next time - I like them...because they are not the same as full size humbuckers - different sounds.
