I used to be a hockey goalie at a top level and one line I always tried to keep in mind mentality wise was this. “The most important shot is always the next one.” Always helped me keep a good mentality and not be bothered by previous shots and it’s really helped me in pickleball as well. Thought you might appreciate that and good work man keep it up.
you have a great attitude, fun watching your journey, Im always rooting for you. Your time is close. Keep working on the mental game and your break through will come
Haven't watched the full vid yet, but saw another comment saying he never actually addressed the title. So my guess is pretty good d3 player realizes he's not even close to good enough to make money off of playing tennis at a professional level (based on his UTR he wouldn't make it past the top 1000), so does what a ton of other college players in his situation are doing and decides to try professional pickleball instead. Definitely makes sense: pickleball is far easier to play and the pro scene is essentially a bunch of amateurs since it's quite newly established, so strong college tennis players should definitely have a shot at making it to the top. There's also a lot of money coming into pickleball and it's the fastest growing sport in the US, so I think it's probable that top pickleball players are making more than lower end ATP pros. In fact, after a quick google search, I found that the average pro pickleball player in the US is apparently making $50,201 a year (not including sponsorships), whereas, according to MyTennisHQ, you have to be at least top 266 in the ATP rankings to make a similar amount. So from a financial standpoint it does make far more sense to pursue pickleball as a profession than tennis at this point in time, at least if the figures I found are accurate.
You aren’t super far off but there’s a little more to it and he’s talked about it in other videos. Pickleball is really a sport you can fall in love with and it sounds odd and before you start saying it’s not a hard sport or anything like that just know it’s a very different kind of hard because it’s not like tennis were the game hasn’t significantly evolved in over 15 years it’s just constantly changing and you are always problem solving. But yea he’s talked about how he played and really fell in love with it and that’s why he started playing more and more originally
Oh and as for the is a decent tennis player so it’s easier to be good at pickleball that isn’t always true especially in doubles. Like I’ve only played less than a year and I’m still better than one of my D1 tennis friends that only plays occasionally so it’s not just a gimme.
@@wolf-xf6hf Thanks for responding. That's fair regarding how hard pickleball is to play, although I will stand by my assertion that it is easier to play than tennis and that playing tennis gives you a leg up if you decide to try pickleball. Take a look at Jack Sock and John Isner, for example. As a duo they've beaten the literal best woman on the planet and another top 10 woman (Anna Leigh Waters and Jessie Irvine) with virtually no prior experience playing pickleball. Similarly, look at the match between Jack Sock/Sam Querrey vs Ben Johns/Matt Wright. You had the guy who is pretty unanimously considered the best pickleball player on the planet and another top 5 player come very close to losing to two tennis pros who barely know how to play pickleball. With respect, I don't think your anecdotal experience with your one d1 friend really captures the reality of how easy it is for high level tennis players to pick up and absolutely dominate in pickleball if they want to. The fact of the matter is, right now many of the top players in pickleball (at least the ones that aren't former d1-d3 tennis players) are just normal people, not professional athletes. It stands to reason that if high level tennis players who are tremendously proficient at playing what is in many ways a far more difficult version of pickleball decide to try their hand at it, they will do extremely well.
Watching any good Pickleballers, especially guys as young and fit as you ans Collin Schick, makes me laugh when I think about all those haters that say Pickleball isn't a real sport. Nobody who has experienced a good game of Pickleball could disrespect it. I played intercollegiate Soccer and competed in Martial arts tournaments for 8 years (placed 3rd in Texas in my weight division in 1986) and I can tell you, playing Pickleball can be just as intense as either of those.
You're exactly right! I just watched the North Carolina Open here in Charlotte in-person and it was so tiring just watching each day.... let alone playing all day!
@@davidoconnor7601 I think athletic experience of any kind will help in most sports, at least with the very basics. For example, when someone comes onto the court and stands there like they're waiting for a bus, I figure there's a few issues to address before even thinking about technique or strategy. On the other hand, if they look like they're about to pounce on some unseen prey- then you know you've got something to work with.
@@orangecoolius Thanks, but you're wrong on every count in your analogy. BTW, I have played tournament Chess for 50 years, so I know what Chess is all about. Pickleball, like many other endeavors has been compared to Chess many times, and, althoug no sport could ever involve as much strategy as Chess, it is one of the better comparisons. Tennis does not involve NEARLY as much strategy as Pickleball, and that's a fact. If you have a really good top spin drive and reasonable mobility, you can play Tennis very well. There's no single shot that even close to gives you a good Pickleball game; you need to be competent at several shots just to play a mediocre game. Finally, your first statement, that nobody is saying it's not a real sport couldn't be more wrong. Tennis wonks have peppered practically every Pickleball video on TH-cam with demeaning comments, many of which LITERALLY have the words "Pickleball is not a sport". I get it though. Tennis was the king of racket sports for centuries. The king may not be dead, but he has certainly been deposed.
Do you ever wonder what Ben says to himself when he sees your name on his side of the draw? No one has played Ben as much as you have …..and you’re one step away from being in championship Sunday. Hand tuff!
You would be good at doubles but you have a lot of work to do in singles!! There were a couple times you had a chance to smash it away from colin but you hit it right to him
i’m getting tired of these clickbait titles, you didn’t even mention tennis at all in this video- like what?? i don’t get it, you make good content and the video is great, you could just use a more accurate title

Was great watching you here in Charlotte and we were fortunate to also meet your mom..... who received many praises for being "so sweet."
Did I miss it or did u never mention why you swapped from fuzz?

He was the top guy in Florida when I played junior tennis.
I’m guessing he switched for the money. Can’t blame him for that.
Keep it up bro! Cant wait to see you get Gold 🥇
Proud of you. Keep it up!
Very cool, great job. Wish the title wasn't clickbait, because you don't discuss that at all...

Good stuff😎 Didn’t explain the title of the video
are you still following/playing tennis still?
Keep it up love the videos!
Getting there, at this point it's all about shot selection :).

I have also competed in martial arts and I can say the skills directly correlate.

Nobody says it isn't a "real sport," it's just checkers to chess. Doesn't mean it's any worse though, some just prefer chess.
