I love the consistency of this pudding. Perfect! You got it right. Putting the ingredients together is the easy part but getting the right consistency is challenging.
Back in the days the grater was secured to a long board - the pudding pan was put on the floor/ground then the long end of the board put into the pan then u stand with the other end of the board bracing on ur tummy & away u go with both hands grating ur potatoes. Also carrots, cassava etc were gratered that way. Done very fast that way
@@lovelychild21 check out them older folks in Manchester & St. Elizabeth who r or were professional bammy makers. And, if u didnt know, the sediment from the liquid of the bitter cassava was then dried & sold as starch. But now, I believe everyone uses spray starch
Looks yummy,my favourite type of pudding. Never knew it could be done in an oven though...thought only the "hell a top, hell a bottom" style was the only way🙈,ooops.
Hell a top, hell a bottom is the authentic and best way but when that's not possible the oven can be used to produce almost as good as hell a top, hell a bottom and hallelujah inna di middle school😊
Please ma'am can it be made with United States sweet potato is orange like. Yours looks so delicious. I want some so bad. ❤ Its surprising the recipes uses no eggs. Do you know why please?
Best results are achieved with the Jamaican potatos but if you can't get them, try the ones available to you..... its not a cake so that's why the egg is not needed. Also what magda sanon said.... Please give it a go and let me know the outcome😊
keep on keeping on sis, pudding looks lovely, gonna try it out soon. I've been wanting proper Jamaican sweet potato pudding for ages, glad I found your video
I tried this pudding today smells good but the middle part somehow still haven't baked,I remove the foil to see if that it would bake but otherwise great video 👍🏾👍🏾
Great ingredients except for baking powder. I added the others except rum & baking powder. The pudding has to be tight, baking powder would take away from that, other than that, thanks for sharing
The potatoes used were imported from Jamaica. I only know about Jamaican sweet potato and the potatoes here in England which are of a different texture and not suitable for the pudding.
I'm going to do your technique for sunday for church
I pray you'll be happy with the outcome
Thank you Ms Shan Wint appreciate your fab recipe it looks good good respect and blessings to you 🦁🇯🇲

The cornmeal and the coconut milk help keep the moisture

Can you use self rising flour?
No Yulette, that would make the pudding rise too much. I know I used a small amount of baking powder in my recipe but it can actually be omitted.
Shan Shan thank you so much 👍
Hi. Am looking. At. Ur. Recipe. Can. U. Say. How. Much. Pounds. Of. Sweet potatos. U. Jus. Say. 2. Sweetpotatoe.there. are. Different. Sizes. In. Sweet. Potatoe.
Thanks for watching my video. im sorry i didn't weigh the potatoes
Bake for how much time
One n a 1/2 hour
Do you need a pan of water in the oven while the pudding is baking?
its optional
It looks lovely, honestly it does.....but mi have 1 problem, it is the potato..I like my potato pudding without potato
thanks. so what do u use to substitute the potatoes?

sorry, don't know what went wrong with yours, maybe it needed more time in the oven..
@@lovelychild21 prob the pan was too full also... remember its a dense batter so too much makes it hard to bake through

you can add a little but it's optional
You tired already???!!! I know how you feel!
it nuh easy cause mi hands weak lol
It looks like sweet potato pudding, some I see look like sugar dumpling!!

I hated when people do videos holding they phone in there hands.
I think you meant ,"their" hands..but she did good in the end so give R some credit man❤hate is such a strong word🙏
Potatoes are all over the Caribbean so you saying Jamaican sweet potato don't make any sense
The potatoes used were imported from Jamaica. I only know about Jamaican sweet potato and the potatoes here in England which are of a different texture and not suitable for the pudding.
