I'm always so grateful to people who want to teach traditional arts to the public, often such arts are guarded and only given to apprentices. I'm amazed to hear you aren't a full time artist, your skills are just stunning!
Ave Maria! What could I say? I have learned a lot and am very inspired by your videos, I was able to accomplish my first Icon in the Byzantine style because of these as my sources. Sure the Icon may look a lot like a beginner type of Icon, but I am happy! It has been blessed recently and in a few days time it will be displayed for an event in Church and it will soon visit homes. I do not know how to describe how much the Lord has done to the innermost chambers of my soul while I was doing the Icon, all I could say is I truly felt in those moments that His Will and mine became one and no other desire I had could compare to that fire that I felt within, that God could still work with us despite us, that in my search for Him I only discover that He not distant, nay, He is within me and I am in Him. I wouldn't be able to describe everything of what He has revealed in this heart of mine. But I am ever grateful and happy! Let us praise the Lord who blesses the works of our hands! I thank you very much for providing the much needed instructions needed for those aspiring to be good iconographers as well. God bless us now and always!
Thank you so much my friend antonis for this amazing beautiful lesson on iconography it’s very helpful for me to get better !! Godbless you and keep you healthy!! 😍❤️❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼☦️
i love your iconography, i have learned a lot and you have helped me improve my skills on Byzantine iconography, but i wonder have you ever tried the Ethiopian orthodox iconography style, you can if you want, it similar but kind of different. anyways keep up the good work you inspire many, God bless you
Thank you Nahum! I'm glad you like the videos. I ha e never worked with the style of Ethiopian Iconography. I'm sure it must have amazing examples of iconography
Hi Antonis, i wanted to give you a tip for gilding technique. I am a iconographer too, and I use another easy technique for gilding decoration's and chothes with gold. I use 15 min water based mixtion and I add some pure white in the mixtion. This is because I want to see where I draw the decorations and it works perfect. Now I leave the mixtion for about 20 min and after I put the gold on without the fear that gold may stacks. I explain that now. I leave the gold to sits there for about 1 hour, because is needs that mixtion to dry. After I don't use a brush to clean the gold, instead I use a moldable plastic rubber because it is sticky and I easily remove the gold because the plastic rubber has a higher sticky propiety than the egg solution.
Such a beautiful Maforion.... and your English is absolutely understandable. I hope, that you are well and healthy. My daughter is back in her life again, and so it is time to paint. Hugs and best regards, Liza from Denmark.
Thanks Antonis. I have not heard about the talc powder before...looks wonderful. Gilding halos is something i struggle with. Probably my least favorite part of iconography because I find it difficult. You make it look easy!
Dear Antonis, thank you so much for this video! Your calming speaking manner making everything so peacefull :) Could you please write the name of glue you used here?
Would it be possible to add just a tiny bit of pigment to the glue, just enough to tint it so you can see it better? Thanks for this video, it was very informative!
Purple has a lot of symbolism in the Bible and in antiquity as a royal color, so purple robes usually depict royalty like in icons where Panagia is “Queen of heaven.” This is because purple pigment was very difficult to obtain before modern times. All throughout the Old Testament such as first in Judges, also in Proverbs and the book of Daniel among, purple is known to be a royal color.
Thank you from Brazil Antonius. I learn very much with your videos. God bless you.

Thank you for a very helpful video. I have a question. Is it necessary to seal the painted surface before adding the glue for the gold decorations?
