    I was taught about the concave side on almost all mud knives 25 years ago. What I didn’t know was that I could use the non-concave side for feathering. I’ve been using the concave side only all this time for my DIY jobs. Sure appreciate your video as I’m starting to tape/mud my new 1,800sq/ft shop. 😃👍🏼💪🏼

      Can I ask you why you and others use such a wide blade when joints and tape are no where near that size? I noticed that father has a 8" Marshalltown, but after reading I've heard 10" is a popular size due to it being easier to handle than a 12" blade.

    Honestly the only video I've found for this exactly. sparky by trade, decided to take the time and get into carpentry which just like electrical has many aspects, ive taped before but starting tommorow its going to be more serious (for me) than juts patching holes i make to run pipe lol thank you!

  • @jeffcook8635
    @jeffcook8635 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is it pretty standard when you buy a knife at Lowe’s and Home Depot for the sticker to be on the concave side?

  • @allhartfidelity
    @allhartfidelity 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I did notice the concave side,
    Did my first mud job last week. I did not do the tape though, it was a new constuction house and they taped it. But not a second coat, and did not go over the tape. I jist wanted it covered. The butts were a PITA so left them. Tape job sucked as they likely figured it was a garage and would never be painted. I jist diddnt want my paint to mess with the exposed tape...
    Just a nitpick, if there is a concave side to the knife (there is) then there is no flat side. That would be a convex side
    ;)
    Thanks for the tips

    • @PaulPeck
      @PaulPeck  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha Charles...😂 You’re absolutely right. It was just a way of explaining the concave side to the other (flat) side.😇 it really isn’t flat. Although when pressure is applied there is more of a flat surface then not.👍🏻 Thanks so much for watching and commenting my friend! -Paul

    • @allhartfidelity
      @allhartfidelity 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PaulPeck I used the same side for applying and pulling it tight though. I will use both sides like you did from now on.

    @rickeykeeton4770 ปีที่แล้ว

    I saw in the ither video you mentioned people sealing the drywall before mudding. I have never done that except for once when I applied popcorn.
    That being said and with possible problems being moisture from the pool, would have been a good idea to seal this ceiling?
    If not, what is to prevent the same thing happening again?

  • @thriftyninja0075

    I am just trying to do a few joints in my house. I bought a 12” knife. When I stand the knife up on its edge on a flat surface the middle is not touching. Is it supposed to be like that? It’s not exactly what you are talking about here. I just feel like this would cause the edges to dig in really bad.

The blade; even against corners and corner beads will flow as long as this process you're showing us is followed and your keep your hands with the curve

  • @Scrapienza
    @Scrapienza ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m a finisher and I’m ngl, I’ve never seen anyone use green lid all purpose for coating. That’s normally just a taping mud. It’s also a lot harder to sand because of the glue that’s in that mud. I tape with the all the all purpose and coat with the plus 3. IMO the plus 3 is a lot smoother and twice as easy to sand

  • @rickeykeeton4770

    I think I might apply too much pressure in the concave side, if my knives have one. Seems like the knives being do flexible, it is easy to apply too much pressure.
