    hey, thanks for the detailed video. Do you recommend removing the rear derailleur?

    • @tdacycling
      @tdacycling  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      its not a bad idea to remove it. I normally do not and just try to add extra padding around it.

    Shanny… you forget to deflate tyres (need to do that for air transport) 😃

    • @tdacycling
      @tdacycling  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Manish, yes its a good idea, though a fully inflated tire has never been an issue for me in all these years. But no harm in letting the air out to be safe!

    What do people typically do with the box when you reach your destination? I assume you are packing to fly back as well

      Hi there, thanks for your question. You would recycle the cardboard after unpacking your bike and we supply you a new one at the end of the tour.

    Bro if you travel with bike do you pay extra baggage fee?

    • @tdacycling
      @tdacycling  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, unfortunately. It varies depending on the airline. Its usually between $50 - $200 ea way!! You also have to be careful, sometimes if you ticket includes 2 segments on 2 different airlines, they might try to charge you twice. But its still worth it to have your bike and be able to ride in a foreign country.. you just have to budget for it.

    Very helpful info. I would add some padding in the small parts box.

    • @shannyhill6987
      @shannyhill6987 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good idea too! Thanks. You can never use too much padding :)

    Is there any need to remove the seat post/saddle on dropper posted bikes? Seems like an unwanted hassle

    • @tdacycling
      @tdacycling  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      usually the box lid wont close with the seat still on, even a dropper post. But if the box is tall enough, sure, leave it on.

    Fantastic! Just want I was looking for! Thanks a million!
    Just a quick question, we don't need to add foam to the sides or below the bike? I mean does the fork just rests on the bottom of the box?

    • @shannyhill6987
      @shannyhill6987 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      thanks, glad its helpful. yes, typically the fork just rests at the bottom of the box. if you are concerned about it poking thru, try placing an extra couple pieces of cardboard underneath.

    Do they allow this box as check in luggage? Won't they charge additional cost?

    • @shannyhill6987
      @shannyhill6987 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, most airlines consider this oversized checked baggage and typically charge you a fee of anywhere from $50 - $200 USD. It all depends on the airline.

    Do these boxes come in different sizes? I saw other people taking both wheels off to fit their bikes in a box for flying.

    • @tdacycling
      @tdacycling  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, they come in slightly different sizes. When you go to the bike shop, you can try to pick one of the bigger ones.

    Can we put 2 bikes in 1 box

    • @tdacycling
      @tdacycling  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In most cases that is not possible, it is already a tight fit with one bike.

    Thank you for the guide! What's the dimension of the box in cm?

    • @tdacycling
      @tdacycling  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Archie, I don't have the measurements of this specific box. Every box is slightly different depending on the bike that it was made for. But something around 145x25x85cm would be typical. Many airlines have a maximum combined linear dimension limit of 292cm (145 + 25 +85 = 255 cm). So make sure whichever box you get fits within the limit of your airline - although it is rare to find one bigger than 292.

    And what to do with front and rear panniers?

    • @shannyhill6987
      @shannyhill6987 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always take them off the bike rack and after you have packed the bike in the box, you can slide the panniers into whatever empty space is left inside the box.
