    Hi Victoria! Thank you again so much! I’ve comment recently similar from one of your recent videos… this helps absolutely so much too! I am almost done with school and I am so anxious to not only know what to do the one to two year experience. And yes!!! This is absolutely true! It is WHO you know and not what you know… Networking! Can not stressed this enough! But building your character and all what is said is the formal education they are preparing us in schooling. I graduate my classes May 24 and graduation walking down the aisle for is June 24th… my externship starts after my classes are completed May 24. Your advice helps big time! Goes back with my instructors. Extremely fortunate being taught by them.
    Taking steps and everything helps simply in this video and other previous videos too! I can’t wait to invest in your master class after earning my certification. The practice is so highly recommended to always do! Never stop learning! Medical Billing and Coding is a continuing education career and much more worth the investment! I am not only gonna try the AAPC… I’m gonna try other programs too to earn certifications.
    By far you are the best Victoria TH-cam for medical billing and coding! You are my go to highly recommended TH-camr on Medical Billing and Coding!
    Hopefully to see another video update with HRs not only one but two be nice because then we can see maybe 🤔 see both sides or something may help us future or already are there to not give up and know what it is and more for networking and resources or tips too for update on resumes or cover letter or how or what’s new expected for 2022.
    Thank you sooooo much Victoria! Absolutely blessed, gratefully, and extremely fortunate for you being you in the professionalism of Medical Billing and Coding and as a whole individual.🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌❤️😇😊

    I love all the advice you've been offering, Victoria! Thanks to you, I expanded my job searches to include Charge Entry, as you'd mentioned that this was your first role. Hi Victoria, I just finished OS2’s HCC Basic course for RA coding and am about to start their Mock Project apprenticeship. Without experience and a CCA it seemed like I would only be able to find a coding-adjacent position. The teachers and the course are amazing. Thank you for mentioning them in your recommendation.

      I've seen them advertise for that and considered trying them. Was skeptical to pay for courses without a guarantee to get the apprenticeship afterwards. Can you please share your experience with OS2 . Do you think the experience through the paid programs would be enough experience to be hired by someone else in the event you're not hired by them?

    The timing of this video is spot on! I actually have an interview this afternoon. Right now it is for a Coding position that is PRN and it’s uncertified. I’ll say I do have a bit of an advantage because I currently work at the hospital that this position is for but in a different dept. I also know the manager who set up the interview as well as the director of the dept. But I don’t want that to distract me thinking that getting the job is a easy hire. With only 8-9 weeks left of school hopefully I will be able to land this position and be ready to go.

    Thank you for this! I’m having a hard time finding a coding job. I just got my CPC-A certification in December. I had hoped my education and other skills would help but nope. I have HR, MBA, and medical training (MLT). I actually started in pre-nursing 20 years ago. I’ve done so many different things, including Quality Assurance. I had hoped to work toward becoming a Medical Auditor. Now I’m even looking into a HIM degree. I’m just at a loss. I’ve put in several job applications with no interviews, a few rejections, and some haven’t contacted at all. I really don’t know what else to do. I was hoping to work from a home office.

    Excellent content. I took a follow-up claims in the Billing department and I sometimes have to review Dx codes and pull from the documentation that has what LCD requires for Equipment items that require specific type of diagnoses. For example, I switched I50.9, heart failure, unspecified from the first line to the second and replaced a respiratory dx that was on the second line to the first line because the equipment is a respiratory item. Anyways, great job!

I have worked in the healthcare industry since 2011. I’ve done health insurance, worked in ED as a financial counselor, pt access registrar adding pt charts and their insurance verification , interacting w pts on their hipaa compliance, and I’ve done prior authorizations with cpt, icd 10 cm and hcpcs. I have two associates degrees and a bachelors degree in ESS with a concentration in pre rehab, so I’m just like… I’ve got most of it down but I’m doing self study which is so much easier for me considering the amount of student debt I owe! My goal is to eventually work remotely overseas (Thailand). From what I have seen, it appears entry level positions are extremely hard to come by. As for salary, I am not looking for much....looking for experience and some extra income. Are my goals unrealistic? How difficult is it to get a entry-level career? I’ve worked with two different hospital networks before, during and directly after Covid. The only reasons I left was due to post covid layoffs and staff cuts. I have experience in HCSPCS and CPT codes since I was a claims processor at one job and I worked medical reception at another doing patient check ins. On top of my previous work for a Medicare advantage plan company as a CSR and claims adjuster (all of these positions together total to about 5 years of work) would that be enough “experience” for most places or would they still want me working directly in the billing and coding position for that?

Half the problems we deal with would not be issue if they had coders in our office. Denials and insurance companies taking back payments is this common?

  • @jrwheeler81

    I was able to land my very first coding job a couple of years ago with a local hospital with no coding experience solely based on my very strong medical transcription background of nearly 20 years. At the time I was hired, I had just passed the CPC exam and was newly certified, but I had never worked as a coder a day in my life. However, the hospital was willing to overlook that because I had been working full-time as a medical transcriptionist for almost two decades and had outstanding medical terminology and anatomy/physiology knowledge. I was an apprentice coder for my first year, but I "graduated" from apprentice status after I had completed my first 12 months on the job. It is entirely possible to land a coding job with no experience!

    Hello I would like to know what’s the best desk top or laptop computer to get for medical coding?

    • @ContempoCoding
      @ContempoCoding  ปีที่แล้ว

      When it comes to choosing a laptop for medical coding, there are a few key features to consider:
      Processing power: Medical coding software can be resource-intensive, so you'll want a laptop with a powerful processor. Look for at least an Intel Core i5 or i7, or an AMD Ryzen 5 or 7.
      Memory (RAM): Medical coding software can also be memory-hungry, so you'll want a laptop with at least 8GB of RAM. More is better if you can afford it.
      Storage: Medical coding files can take up a lot of space, so consider a laptop with a solid-state drive (SSD) instead of a traditional hard drive (HDD) for faster access to files.
      Display: A clear and bright display is important for reading small text and viewing images. Consider a laptop with a high-resolution display and good color accuracy.
      Portability: Depending on your needs, you may want a laptop that is lightweight and easy to carry around

      Absolutely, your diverse background in nursing, massage therapy, and IT can make you an appealing candidate for a CPC position, even without direct coding experience. Hi Victoria, Thank you so much for this! I really needed a boost. I have been trying to get hired - applying to coding positions, billing - in revenue cycle but not much luck yet. I had my resume done as you suggested with Project Resume and you were right they are amazing!! I think I am running into an issue because I have no experience and since being somewhat new with my cert with the A>. I am looking into practicode to continue my knowledge of coding and also work on having it removed.
    I have a question - since my resume is basically a coders resume showing CPC-A right after my name, should I remove it when applying to positions in revenue cycle? I am going by what you mentioned in this video - if interviewed for a position other than coding - don't be obvious you would want to go into coding. So many positions I have applied to, just no luck yet. I am not giving up - this video was like getting a much needed boost of encouragement from you. Please let know your thoughts when possible. Thank you so much again Jet

    I work in a lab where I see codes when I’m accessioning specimen. Does working in a lab count as some form of experience?

    • @ContempoCoding
      @ContempoCoding  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Working in a lab can provide some exposure to medical coding, as you may have had the opportunity to see codes related to the specimens you were accessioning. However, it is important to note that medical coding involves much more than such as as knowledge of coding guidelines and regulations.
      If you are interested in pursuing a career in medical coding, you may want to consider obtaining additional education and training, such as a medical coding certification program. This can help you develop a comprehensive understanding of the field and increase your job opportunities.
      Overall, while working in a lab can provide some basic exposure to medical coding and healthcare systems, it is not necessarily sufficient on its own to qualify you for a career in the field.
