Right? I mention that in the video. I had that issue when I first purchased it, got some guidance on how to fix it and haven’t had the issue for the last three years. Strange! But I’ve made many videos with it, tracked songs with it and it sounds amazing. This was not a good representation of it at all.

Big thumps up for the direct statement at the beginning!
    a) For not forcing the viewer to see all through the video for it and
    most important
    b) For the message you give the viewer by saying: it`s all good.
    Thank you

Thanks for your long time support brother! And thanks for ALL you do for the community to help everyone have better tone. We'd love to take everyone back in time to the 80s when the amp choices were a lot more limited and MUCH more cost prohibitive. These are GOLDEN days for amazing amp sims!

Great video. I’m a hx stomp user. You mention in the blog u tried the new tonefactor XR IRs, I found that I didn’t need to mess around with PEQ in post as much if at all. Would be great to hear more of your experiences with them.

I was saving money to improve my amp, but nothing really compared to what I really wanted within my limited budget. A good friend of mine recommended the Tonex pedal and after one weekend trying out his own Tonex I am sold. Even the stock sounds can be tweaked to get incredible tones and you can download models and IR's till you're blue in the face! It has really blown my mind, technology really has come a long way.

Appreciate your thoughts! I use an HX stomp and typically use a stereo parametric eq block after stereo amps to really dial it in. It’s a killer value and really integrates into a full pedalboard well.

Really interesting comparisons Troy. Haven't tried all of these myself but I began experimenting going ampless nearly 20 years ago. Used old technology - Line 6 amps then a HD500 and with much fiddling I got them to sound good. Always returned to my AC-30s though. BUT the modern gear now is so much better. I use the Ruby in stereo through a DISO+ which is excellent. I've played a Dream and was very impressed. I do not use the Ruby on its own though. I have a Revival Drive as a tone shaper before it to provide cleans and edge of breakup which I prefer to the Ruby's. The Ruby is run clean. I also have an Iridium which i quite like. The Ruby is limited to its own cab sims so I sometime bypass those and use a CabM+ (mono) to expand that. Just about to get a UAFX Ox Stomp to run in stereo with the Ruby. I sometimes use as Origin Effects Magma57 as an amp or pair it with the Ruby. I prefer using a unit like the Ruby in preference to multi effects units - one step away from an amp maybe!

  • @weenchops
    @weenchops 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

had them all and settled on the tonex! The Dream and ruby combo are hard to beat though! Tonex just had the best artifacting to my ears, and i like the idea of not being nailed down to only 2 models. I am a big fan of matchless amps so if UA ever makes one i'll probably switch back to Ua haha
Tonex was a little to dark for me here, but it probably sounds great in a mix!! great vid!!

Troy, great video my man, loving this comparison. I responded to another guy in the chain, but a great capture for a perfect "mic'd up" tone is the WT Morgan AC 20 (ax 2). I use this in church now every Sunday. Also, the AX 3 and EF 3 captures from this amp are great also. Have you thought about selling some of your own captures? You know great tone, id love to hear some captures from you bro!

I’m a big Tonex fan. I’ve used: Iridium, Simplifier DLX, Stomp, and Ruby. Tonex is my favorite for tone, how it “feels,” and how it takes pedals. I have noticed that not all captures are the same. Your recording was definitely on the dark side. I tried several different captures to find the ones that jived with me. I also needed to adjust the input trim.

I used the kemper for the longest time, the only reason I switched was because of size, it’s easier to travel with a small pedalboard. My pedalboard now has an HX stomp with a Tone X in the stomp’s fx loop. Tone x runs the amps/cabs, stomp does all my effects, it all fits in a nano+ pedalboard with space for 2 mini pedals or foot controls.

I started going ampless with the Headrush pedalboard a few years ago. It's a lot of fun and produced great high gain sounds, but I never really liked its reverb algorithms, and it wasn't always great for subtle gain-staging unless you put in a lot of work. Since then, I've tried a few different things, and after a couple years with the Strymon Iridium, I'm trying out the Walrus Audio ACS1 so I can run stereo amps with a single pedal. The boost is a nice feature that lets you treat the amp pedal itself like a gain stage.

Troy, I do not think you are wrong about the Axe FX. I do think that it generally has a very mid range focused sound. There are many times when I wonder to myself if they intentionally filtered the low end out of the cabinets… I always feel like their amps have a bit of a “megaphone“ effect on them.

I switched over to a Helix a few years ago. Haven't looked back at all. I just picked up one of the Two Notes Opus pedals from sweetwater, just because it looks pretty cool, and I think it sounds pretty good. Not gonna replace the Helix by any means (it is pretty much just amp/ cab, no effects), but I will probably run my physical pedalboard into it.

Bummer about the Fractal, my main rig is the OG Fm9, I love it. Also as a father of two and husband, I feel like it was the best all in one unit for me to hit any and every scenario for a church context and diverse song tones. Pedals are fun, but pricey. You are right about splitting hairs with tones in a live context. It’s all about work flow, budget. Great vid. I would definitely do the Tonex if pedals were in my future

You do not need a DISO to flip polarity. Playing through any daw at home lets you flip the phase and any mixing console can do it at church.
