Try mend it for your tanukis as well. I have 20 or 30 that I just rotate and use mend it on overnight. I get a pack of 7 re-made tanukis for every day and I get like 4 or 5 full uses out of each before they lose enough salt to not be good anymore. Also, if you wanna experiment, you can take the pearl tanuki and put it into packs with the watermelon, and it will give you a chartreuse top to your pearl tanuki
Swimjig has been my go to this summer. Bluegill color with a Storm Largo shad 3.5” seems to give it a very nice side to side wobble that the ribbed trailers like the strike king and kitech don’t do. Give it a shot to compare if you can find a pack.
I just saw a video the other day where a guy used a barrel swivel to keep rubbers from ripping off the hook. Run it up your line before you tie on your hook and then after you get the hook through the front end of the bait, run the other end of the swivel over the hook. Haven't tried it yet, myself, but it could work 🤷♂️
Really good video! I have a green Zman Mini Max w/ Big Joshy craw. Feels a little heavy but good action. Had the Yamamoto Yamatanuki out a little today. Used a Mustad EWG with a bait holder. It stayed on the hook better. It's cool with my photographic memory, I recognized the spots of your fish hookups on this video lol good job.
Jigging a chatterdonkey has been the most productive for me . And I also don't see anybody using that technique. Sadly, dang catfish like it too. Can't complain though, usually it's a 40 plus inch flathead built like a vw bug.
@@wendellfishing oh for sure. Only problem is it's usually on my ml/l setup. The tend to be a tough fight on line under 12 lbs. when they are in that 20lb area. Nuthin like a catfish motoring you around the river! 😂
I typically use the swim jig exclusively (along with the Ned) but, yesterday I threw on the chatterbait. I had wind and clouds and remembered others saying throw it on these days. Nothing at first so, I tried something. I casted the Mini Max out and let it sink. My lake has no wood but grass on the bottom so I didn't have to worry about getting hung up. Then, I slow rolled it to make it have contact with the 12" or so of grass in my lake. I wanted to get hung in grass and also imitate a dying bait fish. I added twitches, jerks and stop and starts and, it worked great! I had never had any luck with a chatterbait in the past but, they slammed it yesterday! I must have caught 15 bass and a few yellow perch too. Epic day and a new believer in the chatterbait. Can't wait to go again and try it again!!
Bro I have caught one bass on a chatterbait this year and I don’t understand what the deal is because they are usually one of my best producers but this year has been a bluegill swimjig “Beast Coast Gorilla in natural bream” with a Strike King Scounbug Trailer
A little hard to describe. A body like a craw but no craws with a bulbous poop coming out the butt. Really skips well, sinks faster than a senko, seedless to the max.
Skipped the 3.5” tanuki under a dock and landed a 3.75lb. smallie! Returned a couple days later-skipped the exact same spot on the dock. Nothing on the drop, so reeled in at a decent clip and as the tanuki surfaced, that (nearly) four-pounder exploded and smoked that tanuki and went airborne. Didn’t land it but it was insanely exhilirating! 5/0 is the perfect hook size.
Wait to feel the weight of the fish on your rod then do a sweeping hookeset. I kept missing fishing until I learned to do that. This is my favorite bait by far now. Every time I get a chance to throw it I take it.
Bro, I've been catching some of biggest bass ever this year and all of the huge ones were caught on bluegill pattern Berkeley choppo. I actually caught a pig today on it lol, that bait is absolutely phenomenal!
Man, I bought myself a 7.3 heavy power top water rod the other day and I stuck a big one on a plopper he got caught up in some brush,my new rod rubbed up against a tree limb and bent all the upper line guides straight back...I bent them back but I'm gonna look into replacing my guide's and doing them myself, then id be absolutely unstoppable
I usually get best luck around 9 to 10pm in August I let that sun go out. And, use Fluke Jr's. Because those bass Reallly love to come out there at night around the edges hitting those schools after a hot day and enjoy that cool water as it drops. In the day I feel like I'm turtle fishing😂
I had never heard of the Yamatanuki until I watched your channel. Used it last week and scored a 3.5 lb./20 incher - she freaking inhaled it! You are correct, though - they do get beat up. Great bait option.
I'm just getting into jig fishing (excluding a chatterbait). Caught my first last week on a swim jig and yesterday caught my first few on a flipping jig. I'm hooked. Pun intended.
So far this summer ive caught most of my big bass on a good ole arky jig... put a rage craw on as a trailer and ive caught probly 10 bass over 4 pounds this year with this...
Dude my reaction time is slow! Could you come up for air and slow down a little? I can’t write something down that you speed into something else! lol , your going to get a speeding ticket! LMAO!
@wendellfishing dude there's some giant ones in there...and it's not that pressured I know it's smaller but man they are biting good in April-may I was catching like 25-30 a day for a few days in a row was a crazy black & blue chatterbait bite and I kayak in a real budget kayak with zero electronics and man If I been catching them like crazy with none I can't imagine how many you'd be catching with electronics you'd smash em for sure! It'd make for some good videos for your channel tho I bet I caught three 6 pounders (largemouths) outta there this year you gotta try it man! It's my personal favorite lake I fish there alot ..you gotta give it a shot someday I'm sure you'd like it. We'll good luck fishin and tight lines to ya!

I use a 5/0 Owner 5132 twistlock with the Yamatanuki

I'm following the logic.
Darren, O-Ring's also work great in the center of a dropshot worm. Saves a few more worms. Going to try a tip you put out there. 💯 😎 🎣
Great idea

Niiice!
i been slamming on a trout magnet, has gotten me perch, gills, bass and a muskie believe it or not in july.
I’ve been using the Yamatanuki as a chatterbait trailer. I’ve never gotten so many bites in such a short time.
Heck Yeah!
That net around 5:30 was pretty slick. You should link that bad boy in the description too!
Right on.. its on a lot of my videos.. solid net
Do you still fish the chatterbait in clear water as well? Most the lakes that I fish have 5' + of visibility...
I usually move over to the jig in clearer water
@wendellfishing same typically better bite on the more subtle presentation in clear water... I need to fish the Yamatanuki more...
Great information thank you
Thanks Ray!

I've had really good luck with jackhammers with rage bugs. But I've also had good luck with a chatterbait mini max without a trailer
I bet that Swim Jig is tearing them up
Great video and great fishing!! Have a good day and week. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks! You too!
@@wendellfishing your welcome and thank you! I hope all is well.
Very informative, great info! Delta Lures has a great version as well!
The OG Z-Men chatter bait just work great for me. The others is the crazy eyes 👀 if has to much grassy spots.
Chatterbaits have been slower this year than in the past. Poop baits are the ticket after the top water bite dies for me.
What's a poop bait?
A little hard to describe. A body like a craw but no craws with a bulbous poop coming out the butt. Really skips well, sinks faster than a senko, seedless to the max.
Ribbed baits! 😂🤔 something about it!
Ha! I don't think much about them interestingly enough
@@wendellfishing i think it’s something! We’ll talk soon!

I caught a one pound bass on a 5/0 hook

I think that's an awesome idea on the Yamamoto Yamatanuki with the ring!
Definitely works!
What net do you use?
I got you: geni.us/YakAttackNet
Thanks man
In the summer time I will fish the bladed jigs like a football jig or wobble head dragging it on the bottom and they crush it
Niice!
Got 10 yesterday on a chatterbait evo elite bluegill color with a 6th sense whale for the trailer. They didnt want anything else
I've also had luck with the little Tanuki with a 1/0 EWG on spinning gear. It looks like a tiny blugill to me.
Right on!
